I now I’m 64 years old but when I was younger 5 or 6yo, Irene came to visit a relative of hers at a house on Clark Lake in Michigan. My grandmother at the time used to be the cleaning lady for the woman who owned that house. The woman who owned the house was a relative to “granny” and Irene was planning on a visit so the woman offered to allow my grandma to bring all of her 12 grand children to Clarklake to visit and meet granny. we all piled into my grandmothers car drove to the lake. We walked in and there was this beautifully dressed very elegant, beautiful hair, beautiful make up beautiful jewelry, beautiful dress, woman sitting in the living room, and the woman who owned the house, said this is granny boys and girls. I walked right up to her, and I said, you’re not granny you’re too pretty!! Well, Irene laughed so hard, and she started speaking in Granny’s voice which tickled me so much. I ran into her arms and gave her a hug. I will never forget that day. It was so sweet.….

Ive always had a personal place in my heart for her character as granny. Both of my parents were not very well off growing up in Buckhannon West Virginia.My dads mom,had a hard job,being widowed when my dad was only 7,and she had a home and 5 kids to care for alone.My moms mom was a very devoted christian,and yet,would be rather scornful yet,proper toward unruly children...like myself.I loved them both dearly.When I speak to friends about my family in West Virginia,I can only make a comparison of them with Jed and Granny. My uncle Arbrey was common law husband to my aunt Edith,who developed polio as a late teen,and he stayed with her and grandma to help best as he could.He was typical Jed.Easy going and kind hearted. I could go on and on...but tho we came from poor West Virginia hillbilly stock,Im very proud of them,for they were the root of family loyalty in my ancestry.And watching The Beverly Hillbillys is like listening to my grandma and my uncle.Im almost 70 now,and Irene blessed me with lingering,fond memories of my late family members of West by God Virginia.

@NoName99 NoFace88One very cold winter at age 19 I married. Spent my Christmas present money on a nice pair of furry ankle boots. My new husband could not believe my choice and called me Granny Clampitt. Didn't help that I was a skinny 5ft to his well-built 6ft or wore my bootees proudly with my favourite mini-dress. So when we went out we looked like Tom Jones with Granny Clampitt in tow!!
@DD-xt6vo4 жыл бұрын
@NoName99 NoFace88 Not American but as it turned out our son (and only child) married an American. He's in PA and has a son and daughter (who's married with a daughter) living in Virginia. Sadly the marriage did not last many years, he left me for an older woman and now they are both gone. So he never got to see me as a real Granny or Great Granny - Clampitt not so much anymore - nor to know our son's lived nearer to Nashville than we could have foreseen. Ironically as when he rang for our first proper date my radio was playing "In The Ghetto" and he idolised Elvis. I don't think he ever travelled out of England though, much less over to see Graceland. I've been over to see our family at least. We married on a last Thursday in November - Thanksgiving Day in America - by sheer chance as across the world with no idea so just another unlikely link to America. So who knows, your feisty sounding Granny Clampitt look-alike wife and I may yet be related - if only by marriage in some generation still to come.

Irene Ryan DID NOT HAVE A SAD ENDING! She left the #1 highest rated show NATIONWIDE, to take a staring role in a brand new Broadway musical with Ben Vereen! She played her role on Broadway until 2 months before she passed away! One of her final interview, she spoke of how blessed she was to have been given the opportunity to be a lead in a Broadway musical at her age. As, most are shunned at her age! The ONLY thing sad was that she died! Irene was the entire nations Granny, and 99% of the American population mourned & cried over losing her.

I was only 2 years old when she passed away, sadly most of the people (rock stars) I liked by the age of 13 I found out had allready passed away, John bonham, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, gene krupa , elvis Presley, Keith moon. I was heart broken to hear that led zeppelin wasent going to replace John Henry bonham, I really liked zeppelin, I'm 50 now and I still enjoy listening to there music. Later, many more followed them as well in the 80s, my most favorite of all was Clifford lee burton bass player for metallica. I know this was about a t.v. star but, I felt compelled to post what was flowing from my heart. Two more of my favorites in the 2000s passed away as well, darrel lance abbot also know as dimebag Darrell, and his bro, Vincent Paul abbott, played in a band called pantera. Miss all of them, RIP my fellow musicians. See you on the other side.
