Why does it bother you that people come out? You really don't understand why oppressed people break out of others imposed shackles. Sexuality is a core aspect of any individual. It involves to whom you love. It's not about a sexual act. That's a powerful expression of it of course. What it means by your statement, that you do not understand imprisonment. Thought experiment: Hide the fact you are straight. By that you deny ever being married- get a divorce, say your children are not yours publicly. Live everything that's precious to you in secret. The state is to deny your existence is valid: (kicked out of the military, lose your job, get raided by the police, charged- even if you were pivotal in a world war. Secretly contemplate suicide... and so on. Denied your pension, fair treatment under the law. Cut off from your family. It all adds up. The closet is not owned by the individual, but societies and individuals that enforce it. You wouldn't hide anything if you didn't haft to.

Well, some gays have been forced to reveal it, and have had it revealed just by living a normal life -- talking about their partner's cooking, or explaining to a girl why he won't date her. One is forced out often by just living. I agree no one should be forced, but knowing I'm gay shouldn't get me arrested or denied an apartment, fired from a job, or beaten in an alley.

The feeling that one must hide their sexuality, simply to exist in society and then turning to alcohol/ drugs to cope with that constant stress, is a real tragedy. The heartening part in these stories is the fact that some still managed to have long-term dedicated partners. Healthy, supportive and loving relationships between adults are too rare in this World. It makes no sense to demand only heterosexual relationships are acceptable. Sexual attraction to others is personal and unique to everybody. Find the partner who reciprocates your feelings and give that same right to everybody else. Unless someone is getting hurt, it's not our business to judge.

Sad that you were so sloppy that you couldn't get the written word correct. For example "Jene" instead of "Gene" and "2,017" instead of "2017" Really, really sloppy and those 2.3K that gave this a thumbs up are wrong. IMO

'Anyone' may wish to form an intimate relationship, including a sexual one. It's only fair that people are honest and don't exploit, use and/or experiment with interested others and lead them up the garden path.

Because the notion of having to be closeted telegraphs that there is something wrong with being gay...that it need to be hidden. While it doesn't have huge consequences for mature adults, for young people struggling with their sexuality and the shame with having to hide their secret often leads to bad consequences. The more normal, healthy and visible gay role models there are, the safer it is for young people to be themselves.

Not true. Perkins was closeted and intensely paranoid about it for the majority of his career. He had a number of beard girlfriends, including Pier Angeli.

And not a mention of Liberace (The Candelabra Queen)? Or Rock Hudson or James Dean, who once said when asked by a reporter if he was gay -- asked in response to many of the gay rumors swirling around him, "Well, I sure don't want to go thru life with on hand tied behind my back." At the very least he is saying that at the very least he wasn't adverse to trying it with other men (the real rumor was he and Sal Mineo had a fling during the making of REBEL and if you look at the way they look at each other in that film, Mineo looks like he adores Dean. And who knows what went on in the trailers on the set of GIANT, Anyone think Rock could have resisted inviting Jame Dean into his trailer during that filming? 😍

We all knew what he meant.

Ingrid Thulin (a striking blonde star in many Ingmar Bergman movies and character actress in high-profile European films like "The Four Horsemen" (dir, by VIncente Minnelli) and "The Damned" (dir by Luchino Visconti)) was a lesbian, something that was well known to people working with her but barely ever mentioned in public in her lifetime. For decades she was married to Harry Schein, the head of the Swedish Film Institute - a white marriage and more or less a front cover to both of them.

I don't think it's fair to say somebody is gay when they were married their entire life and denied any such gay rumors. Then when they are dead, make a video saying they were gay. If they were gay and never confirmed or denied it, then congratulations because that's the way it should be, private.

Gene Kelly was not gay, a gay man would never have married women several times, not happening. John Inman may have been a pedophile, he passed away as British authorities were investigating him. Sherman Hemsley does surprise me, I didn't know. I am the one guy in America who didn't know Rock Hudson was gay, when his illness, and sexuality came to light, I was shocked.

It's an oddity in our society that being gay was looked down upon mainly because it went against religious views, no matter what religion, and yet in their own religious rule husbands and wives should not cheat on each other. How about fair play that besides having on KZbin those who are gay but also have those who have cheated on their spouses?
