I’m of the opposite opinion about video length. I like long form conversations. I think a lot of people do, considering Joe rogan has more followers than most mainstream media. I understand we are in the era of 15 second TikTok attention spans, but long form conversations and pod casts are pushing out antiquated media. I’m not sure if you’re using this channel as an income stream, and if so, then if making short videos maximizes profit, then go for it. But me personally, I wouldn’t just tolerate, I’d whole heartedly enjoy 2 or 3 hours segments on topics. That being said, I love you videos, I recommended you to a lot of people I know and work with and I try to disseminate the same approaches, strategies, and cautions you have taught me when it comes to investing. Thanks again for all the advice. I look forward to more content.

Some Video Games and systems could be considered historical. Not antiques at this point but in 20 years their will be. Various types of boxes and printings of 1st printing of the original Pokémon games are highly collectible and rare. Historically related to the development of Nintendo or video games as a whole. I think it’s more speculative as an antique but should have a future. I’m definitely a Timmy but agree with you on the main difference between nostalgia and history.
@ReservedInvestments

Your first sentence is already factually wrong.
@moshebaum7612

@@ReservedInvestments. Let me rephrase then. Some video games and systems may be considered desirable antiques in the future. Just need to be 100 years old right? And until they are an antique, many games will retain their collectibility until then. Why wait until they are an antique if many rare video games are fairly easy to find if you know what to look for. I don’t know what your definition of historical is so I can’t really respond to your comment. What I meant by historical is that they can be related to the history of an industry (gaming) and tell a historical story. Like the different product codes on Pokémon red signifying printing runs or the mistaken test in the back of some Pokémon blue boxes because they were rushing to print so fast. I think collectibles can become antiques which is the best of both worlds. Being able to sell short term for high profits while also being able to be generationally passed down and maintain value. That being said , thank you for your response. I appreciate all your content.

I think video games as an industry are here to stay, and there will be some future interest in history or preservation. I don't think they'll be a desirable market. We've already seen with stuff like atari, there's a certain age where they boom and a certain age where they bust back to yard sale prices, already happening to NES too. That's nostalgia rising and falling and the item not getting a foothold in the history market when it has its chance. I don't think there's going to be future desire for filling your house with physical blocks with 8mb of a game on it. Plus capacitors burn out, discs degrade, etc. The future of video game history and preservation is rom dumps and emulation I'm afraid. Maybe someone starts a 90s Cafe with an SNES and MTV buzz bin videos at the table while you wait for your food, but eventually OG gaming devices all have the same destiny. They'll be in landfills while people read books about gaming history and maybe a few brave souls try out NES roms.

@@doctordistracto8390 I think they'll be largely forgotten about decades from now, except for extremely niche collectors, as we get into the VR and, dare I say, holodeck era.

Going to throw a probably quite unpopular opinion out there, but as an ancient & medieval coins collector i do not believe that Key date milled coins (e.g 1891) have any more historical value than their non-scarce counterparts, they are just rare and grading has inflated their importance and probably price
@bruh_hahaha
@bruh_hahaha 2 жыл бұрын
Well to lump all comics in with nostalgia is a bit generalizing. Books like Action Comics 1, Directive Comics 29 and even Amazing Fantasy 15 cannot be lumped together with all the post 1975 modern books (designed specifically to be collected). I think Action Comics 1 and Detective 29 only have a few hundred known copies to exist and I don’t think Timmies and Kimmies are the ones shelling out millions to buy them.

Is there a point where one could say a nostalgia antique can become such a phenomenon that it crosses over into the historical side of things? For example, if the Honus Wagner were to continue its prominence, might it eventually gain true historical significance? (to be clear, I’m not saying this is a phenomenon that a person should buy into collectibles thinking will happen with anything popular, not at all. I’m just curious what types of historical significance will move an antique into that “history” category given the right alignment of events). One thought that comes to mind are certain books that are now very historically relevant, but which, during their time, were just published works being sold to the public.

Hi, I agree with almost everything you are saying in this video but I have a question for you. Why your Stage 4 collectible rule (younger generation must enter the market) doesn’t apply to desirable antiques. If we follow the law of supply and demand, at some point, if the demand for a product drop, price will drop. For example, if the younger generation doesn’t buy into the coins market, at some point the price will fall.

The coin market, not unlike gold or investment grade gemstones, is well established as a market of reliable alternate assets. Plus, coins have been around almost as long as the concept of money has been around. So they are well beyond any popcultural sentiments ... and the depedencies, that come with that. It also helps, that you don't need to devote entire shelfs to coins, when you start to collect them.^^

So a President Lincoln signed document is going for around 5 Grand right now on Heritage Auctions. He has been dead for more than 150 years. Does it stand to reason that it will be worth 10 Grand in another 150 years? My question is how do historical documents contribute to generational wealth? Is it that they just hold their value when other items don’t?

Hi, I’m a Timmy. I have no where near the knowledge you have but i also dont think Pokemon cards are going to the moon. I was wondering if you could explain further on why pop culture collectibles can’t eventually become of an investment grade antique? Why cant pop culture collectibles be rooted in history if they are around long enough espcially if there is a global desirability to that collectible. If i invest in it i wont need 100-500 years to find out. I just need 60-80 years. Could you also explain how pop culture collectibles dont have a cyclical market?
