For clarity: I mentioned Juan as an innovator bringing a new food source. I say that only in the context of his claim as he attempted to build his case to the Spanish Crown. Apologies for any misunderstanding

@TemplarX2 Spaniards didn't "enslave" blacks. They purchased them from other blacks like the Portuguese did. African/ Arabic (Muslim) slave trade encompassed all races. Africans are comprised of different racial and tribal groups. His "people" would have been his fellow tribesmen or countrymen, not all blacks.

I love your content, it’s so educational for everyone black and white because some black peoples (young and old) really don’t know where they are coming from and how we have a rich and powerful past and some (most) white people love to believe everything that has been told throughout their lives and believe in some sort of supreme ideology and that they are better than everyone else and always refer to their created his-story and their glorious crimes and moulding of the world to fit their agenda. So the truth about how and why things are the way they are is very important to understand, literally the state of the world is a direct reflection of the past, so it’s easy for some to say “ oh that was a long time ago, or we can’t be responsible for anything done by our forefathers in the past BUT they can continue to benefit from what they did/done in the past right? See my point, bless you, thank you

History is complicated. Thank you for expanding our knowledge and understanding of the world we came from. It is powerful to hear more of humanity's story. This encourages us to understand more of what we perceive today. If we don't see history as our shared history, then we cannot see our future as a shared future. I was blown away in Spain when I saw the Moorish influence and history intertwined into the building of cathedrals. The artistry… genuinely awe-inspiring! Thank you again for your videos

I think part of the reason the story of the Black Conquistadors is largely unknown is because it complicates the moral clarity of the grasping Europeans and the victimized Native Americans (Inca, Maya, Aztecs, etc. in this case) and Africans. You have a few Africans taking part in the conquering of peoples, including participating in atrocities. To many that is very uncomfortable. It is in the same vein of the Conquistadors somehow conquering the native population all by themselves and not that they had a lot of help from the resentful tribes that hated paying tribute to the Native Empire (Inca, Aztecs, etc.). It does not fit with the Europeans being the sole bad guys and the native population being innocent And of course you have white racist who want to say that it was their "superiority" that conquered the "savages" by themselves with no help from the Vassal tribes. All that kept those stories being told by mass media and most school curricula, so the story remains a semi-secret.

Did you know I had a history degree and would answer you? Will make it quick Small pox... Aztecs are the Mexicas/Triple Alliance (Aztecs are broad and it would have been 3 other groups) Juan Garrido and Cortes were mercenaries the person who paid for them to go on the trip, canceled fearing Cortes would double cross him but he went anyway and Juan Garrido would not have been the only African with him. So it was two groups that went and they had to fight off the second group.

"Moor” was a Middle Ages, Southern European term that generically described anyone who was Muslim (Arab or Berber) or had dark (darker than pale(er) Europeans) skin. Originating from the Roman for the Mauretania area at the time; What is now the Maghreb, the Iberian Peninsula, Sicily and Malta. Much like your use of the descriptor "Blacks", it was narrow in terms of geography, but very broad in terms of ethnicity.

During the 1600s the majority of those Conquistators were NATIVE OR MIX NATIVE. Thats why i dont feel sorry for Mexicans when they try to talk that oppressed stuff. Aztecs made up 90% of Hernan Cortez’s army and the other 10% were from Spain. I’m not understanding the “enemies of the Aztecs” thing when the Aztecs were the ones who fought and enslaved other indigenous nations

@@PNOTYForever that's the point. They enslaved others outside of their kingdom so they had plenty enemies, those enemies were used by Spain to infiltrate the Aztecs and destroy them from the inside. .

Isn't it kinda obvious why Black conquistadors were "forgotten" in the history books? The only legitimate reasons I see clearly is that none of those guys were commissioned and paid officially by the Spanish crown, they were pretty much on someone else's expedition. Otherwise, racist revisions of whomsoever were writing those historical accounts.
