Thankyou so much to everyone who is watching, commenting and liking the videos! The channel is at a crossroads. It would mean the world to us if you shared them as well! Whether it's this video, the latest videos on Suffrage, or the Viking invasions it would be a massive help!

"downtime" wasn't exactly as you're saying. For most peasants it would be taken up with finding other ways to make a little bit of something to keep them going. Whether that was hunting /fishing (with their Lords permission), making items to be used or bartered with, and travelling in order to do that. Which since it could take days, weeks to get to and from the towns and cities for markets etc took up a lot of time. Its not really "downtime" as we think if it today.

Medieval peasants worked half the amount of days we do. They also had a rich community, unlike our social atomization under modernity. It wasn't all bad.

I thought the same thing 😆 1.King 2.Warrior aristocracy 3. Middle class/merchants 4. Peasants This has been the quadripartite way since the beginning of God's creation. There were class revolutions which reached a fever pitch in the 18th ,19th, 20th and now 21st century A.D. and we are now in a state of perpetual revolution. However the average western European peasant in the late middle age lived a fairly stable life based on the natural rhythms of the world and Holy Days and in fact the mentally well adjusted peasant desired peace and an abundance of food and shelter which required that he positively contributed to his community which meant that the 4 classes had to secure a harmonious balance between themselves. The peasant grew the food that all the higher classes depended on for their physical substinence (sic?). In turn the merchant would provide the peasant with material goods and the warrior knight would protect him from invaders and the king's will would direct the whole system, passing laws and regulations and rewarding the classes beneath him for work well done. Not every peasant lived a terrible life full of deprivation and physical agony, many lived quite well. We are fortunate to have made advances in the field of science however and we should be grateful that live in such luxury and ease today although it seems this is ending in the west in many places. These are dark days gentleman. 😬
