Sorry about the late responce to your request yestrday for things of the past returning. I was camped 20 miles from my Big O Lake home with my kayaking sidekick best bud pup. We got a wild hog with a compound bow and along with a couple of pounds of cattail roots grated up for frying, we came home weighing a few pounds more than when we left. The memories you spoke of was me and my Granddad, with me at age 14. We would drive from Southern California to Big Pine on the eastern side of the Sierra Mountains and hike two days up the mountain. We caught wild trout, snared cotton tail rabbits, and harvested wild fresh green watercress, along with all the cattail roots you could eat. That lasted for three years before he past. I miss that Old Coot! Those were the days I was happiest in my life, along with now and my pup kayaking.

I think you're looking at the right things Marty. Life is up and down, the tide is up and down. Both are a kind of permanent thing but the up and down is forever changing. All things are good things if we look at them as such. The same goes for the bad. If happiness is what you seak you will surely find it. The same goes for sadness. If we all watch for the signs we will find what we are looking for. Stay well Marty, one day I would like to stop in and visit.

Thanks for the analogy. I to, just last night was sort of thinking on the same way as you with the current situation. Only I was thinking about about the changing tides. I live on the canals of Hernando Beach, and I was like you. Pondering the same concept. How last month I was in the canal working on the dock because of the lower than normal tides, yet last night I was watching an extremely higher tide. It just makes me think of how much and often the world changes daily and most of us don't even think about it. Maybe we should slow down and take a little bit more time and embrace the changes subtle and in your face a little more often. Tight lines.🤔😎

Doing Aerial imagery for years, cloud and cloud shadow locations play a huge role. Looking out the window watching, observing and learning how clouds form, grow and move. Learning to make the decision to stay and wait, move on, or even come back in a few minutes. Taking that time to see and learn, and change things I thought to be true as I notice new trends, has helped me reliably acquire my imagery through the years. Not to mention, being able to take a moment, to get away from the hurried task at hand, and realize how beautiful every part of our great country can be.

I currently temporarily live in Idaho and last two years I fished on the rivers close by during good weather up to 4-5xs a week up to 8+hrs some days. I’ve noticed a great deal of many things about the water and it’s inhabitants. The water level varies greatly throughout the year from no water and up. I’ve now mapped out many of the deep holes that hold a majority of the trout, and found out how they react during those times as well as the other critters. There isn’t much I’d trade that time for...

Marty, I have been fishing the same waters since I could walk. Over the years I have learned patterns that play out every year, and I can time them perfectly. For example I have one summer spot where I know that about 2 hours into the incoming tide during about a 2-4 week stretch of time (depends on how cold the winter is) there will be all out chaos as stripers and bluefish blitz non stop for the next few hours. Happens every year without fail.

Yes. Me too. Well said. Something I do, likely as a product of industrial experience, is tune into sounds. I isolate and sperate sound by frequency. Classifying and identifying leads to discovery of sounds which would otherwise be unrecognized. E.G. I remove confusion by quite non thought meditation, I experience each sound breaking my peace by recognition which places at either invasive od noninvasive. This leads to a retune or moving deeper into listening. All life, every detail is being recorded in rock by sound processes. The rocks hear!

It's called "Opening your eyes and being aware of your surroundings". Most people buzz through life without really being aware of, or seeing the nuances and beauty that surrounds them. Just as boats buzz down your river and miss so much. As a photography instructor, my new students always think they have to travel somewhere exotic in order to make beautiful photographs. A first assignment to them is to stop, open your eyes, and notice what is right in front of you. I believe your eyes are opened!

Marty, Try this in your location, I do it from 3 miles inland in Largo, but in your location combined with the observation of the tides, it might be even more interesting. Late at night, when all is at rest, and the streets are still, I go out into my back yard and stretch out in the hammock and gaze skyward. I fix my focus on a star, any star but usually a bright one that I can easily identify again, should I have to look away for a moment. I note the star's position to a fixed point overhead. It could be the roofline of the house, or a telephone pole, or best of all is a phone line stretched between to poles. Then, I wait and watch. I watch the star slowly march toward the line. As the Earth courses through the heavens, which is normally unknown to us, that little star marks its own course in the universe. It may not actually move, but the Earth does move and that movement is marked, just a little at a time as the phone live and the star come together. At first they seemed to be just inches apart, now they are nearly meeting, and soon the star will pass behind that line, and we are well on our way to the next day. And each new day brings forth its own harvest of the good, the bad and the unknown. Twinkle, twinkle litter star, how I wonder who and where you are, up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky, I wish I may, I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight. Maybe I'm mixing my literature, but it just seemed right. I think, if you do this, being the philosopher you are, you'll get a kick out of it, and maybe an insight or two on life.

Beach fish for Snook. I can walk outside look around observe the weather. Then make the decision to bicycle over to the beach or not. I don't need to go and see. Or I leave the rod and go for a walk. No doubt it is time on the water. Long ago I sacrificed 3 months just to observation. Every day at the same time. Sat at the shore with a pair of polarized sun glasses. Of course the tide was different as well as the wind. My eyes saw things I never knew were occurring. I had a little log book/note pad. Wrote all that down. When I got home I would check the weather and note that too. Sometimes the GF's friends come by when I'm out in the yard observing. What's he doin' ? She tells them I working out what's for dinner.

I've noticed, more than in the past, our seagulls. There was a large Shad die off (normal "winter kill") and the gulls have been gorging themselves. Attempting to work from home, I've heard them click on at very first light. One triggers another, and in the span of a minute they're all squawking. They take off a few minutes later, but im close enough to a river where I hear a faint "kaw kaw" ALL DAY. Like psychological seagull warfare.
