Still hard to believe he's gone. He was a splitting image of my grandfather who was also a professional artist and passed away at the same age. Richard is absolutely at the top of my personal list of influences.

What a wonderful video that You have shared. Thanks a bunch! One thing was clear....He had friends....He had family....and he seemed to really enjoy the time he had and what he was doing with it. And so were all of those who were in his presence. How fun, and how wonderful for all of You who got to share and know him more than anyone else and then share that with all of us. Thank You again.

I love this man. I am a watercollorist and am influenced by him. I want to learn to paint oils but want to learn the direct method. Hasn't happened yet. Haven't figured out how to teach myself yet. I dont want to follow the same path I did with watercolor where I had to unlearn bad habits. Paged through a friend's Alla Prima ...was deeply impressed ...I did paint a few items around the house and tried to see shapes and relationships instead of objects. transformative

Very wise man. We are seeing this more and more, paintings becoming less and less about "filling up the canvas" and more about revealing what the artist is thinking. We don't think in "toned canvas" or compositions that take up every inch of real estate. We think in shapes and highlights, and all the sorts of things that as a sum of their parts make up an image.

That was such a heartfelt and beautiful moment between those two, I was grateful to hear someone talking about how grateful she was in the moment and feeling like she was on an amazing moment in her journey with the man. May we all experience such beauty and recognize and have the opportunity to speak that gratitude before the moment is gone and forgotten. Peace to all.

@dev null a person only needs to have a heart to know what is ‘heartfelt’. Humble yourself, build up & stop trying to tear down & destroy. Get a heart & know what I’m talking about. You can listen to accusers all day and be one Yourself or You can listen to other professionals who actually worked with him, cares & learned from him …or to his friends…or to his family. They have spoken wonderfully about him. Even if the man has faults, so what. Who doesn’t? And who doesn’t have detractors? I’m interested & attracted to the good. I love this video & the one who posted clearly loved the man. Haters always hate. Learn to love & let the Truth set You free. May there be such a video by Your family & friends because of the love, kindness & goodness You gave to the world as was done here for this wonderful artist, man, and family member. Strive for that keyboard warrior. Peace to all.

The greatest living artist is not accurate I am sorry. He is one of the great living artists in my opinion. (Only my opinion of course). He is so famlus here in the States but if you ask painters, they will mention various great painters. Example is Master Odd Nerdrum. Also, you got young artists that are not famous at all but they are Masters in my opinion.

@@ninahiatt664 Miss, you must have a very limited knowledge about art and artists both living and dead to call this artist, greatest. I am not going to bother giving you names of artists that will eclipse this good artist. He seem a kind hearted person, a very good artist. Greatest he is not.

Since this is a "family posting", I will respectfully not be harsh about assessing this artist's rightful place in art history. But I will simply state that to claim Schmid was the greatest living artist smacks of wild and unfounded hyperbole.

Splashing on bright colours all over the place like a child does not take skill. Richard Schmid is a top, skilled painter. It takes skill and great senstitivity to master value, colour, edge and drawing to a high level. Your comment is a joke.
