The Ten-Tails is the combined form of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and the God Tree, created to reclaim the chakra inherited by her sons, Hagoromo and Hamura. It is regarded as the progenitor of chakra, and is tied to the legend of the Sage of Six Paths and the birth of shinobi. To end the beast's rampage, the Sage became the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki and later split its chakra into the nine tailed beasts to prevent it from causing further harm. Centuries later, its revival became the objective of Madara and Obito Uchiha, who both sought to become the beast's jinchūriki in order to further their objectives.

Kurama is 50% of the ten tails, the rest of the TBs are the other 50% split somewhat evenly. Kurama and Naruto at their peak could at least hold their own defense wise for a decent bit of time

Except, the Ten-Tails isn't really the progenitor of chakra. The Ten-Tails is the harvester of chakra already existing in any planets, aiming to end all life on those planets, the chakra only to be consumed by the Otsusuki.

Fun fact: Dragon Ball Z also had its version of a “tree that completely drains a planet and produces a powerful fruit” too. In the movie the Tree Of Might, it’s literally the same thing as the God Tree, even producing a fruit that Turles consumes to stomp Goku easily. The fruit can only be consumed by Kais and Eternal Dragons

I have a theory about the Ten Tails’ forms from the new info in Boruto. In Boruto, the Ten Tails are explained as seedlings of God Trees. From what is depicted, all the seedlings share the Ten Tails’ first form (from the flashbacks, the Kara Ten Tails looking like a baby version of our Ten Tails’ first from etc.) My theory is that the humanoid second form of the Ten Tails and beyond is actually the merged form of the Ten Tails and Kaguya. The first form being just the basic seedling form before Kaguya fused with it. When the Juubi in the 4th Great Ninja War was revived prematurely, it was revived in just the pure seedling form. But as it continued to gather chakra and transform, Kaguya’s presence started slowly re-emerging and manifesting in the beast again

The Human like form does not ever show for the Ten-Tails unless an Otsutsuki or an Otsutsuki vessel is fed to the seedling and we know that there are multiple seedlings, tens, hundreds maybe thousands who knows, but we do know that the one in Boruto will be important to the story as Kishimoto doesn’t have things show up and not have them serve any significance later.

Spoilers Kaguya changed because she fell in love with a human. Their original plan was to drain the life energy with kaguya being sacrificed to 10 tails. Kaguya was betrayed by her dumbass husband forcing her to eat the chakra fruit and betray her mission.Then, Kaguya had to killed isshiki to prevent the planet from being drained. The reason she was called “evil” by humans was because she demanded human sacrifices to create a white zestu army. What the humans and her sons don’t know was that it was to protect the Earth. When her sons betrayed her and actively worked to stop her, she felt betrayed she she was sacrificing everything to protect them. I guess a journey like that would change anyone.
