The 1970s for me was the golden age for sitcoms. When you think of the brilliant writers around at the time Galton and Simpson, La frenais and clement,Eric Chappell and David nobby to name a few. Not forgetting the fantastic acting talent too, bewes and Bolam,Corbett and Brambell, and Leonard Rossiter.Truly a golden age.

Looking back, it might not have been that great but it seemed like it was brilliant at the time. I was born in '63 but utterly consider myself a child of the 70s. My daughter is just out of her teens, I feel sorry for her generation who can't even have a laugh without fear of a backlash from somebody or other. Give me a classic '70s sitcom - best of all an Xmas special - over the modern Americanised/PC (same thing) so-called (ahem!) ' humour' of today.

I was a pupil at the nearby Manor Park school on Addycombe Terrace when the learner driver scenes were filmed in 1974. Hordes of us kids were permitted to watch the proceedings from a distance, I remember 'Bob and Thelma' stopped their car just yards from us excited kids, this was probably between takes. They remain seated in their car motionless like statues and totally oblivious to the mayhem around them. It has taken almost 45 years to finally identify that this was the episode that was filmed outside my old school. Of course being a 12 yo at the time I was too young to watch nor appreciate the Likely lads back then, but now it remains a treasured memory of times gone past.

Christmas just is not what it was full stop & it gets more & more about spending more every year . We got my Nephew, Neece & Brother in law a P.S 5 for Christmas there my Nephew 5 then 6 now I sead to him that will do you for a few years but eventually The P.S 6 will come out I sesd yes & he sead when that comes out you can get me that aswell. I just laughed & thought your Dam lucky you got the PS 5. Kids now see Christmas totally different to when I was a kid growing up in the 80"s , 90's our parents had to make a lot of sacrifices my Dad was on a three day working week in the early 90's , Mum had a part time job in a newsagents in the village so there was not always a lot of money growing up. They made sure we could get what we need but it was nothing spectacular a lot of the time I was always grateful to get what I could. But kids now just expect the best of the best no matter what the cost of it all they see is they want it . It was funny though we where always getting them the P.S 5 but three weeks before Christmas my Nephew pipes up to his Mum I would like a P.S 5 from Christmas remember he is only 5 at that time. His Mum my Sister has to try not give the game away it's tucked away in there garage at this point next to the house they are in the garage for something & my Nephew asked what is that over there lol.

I watch this every year as well. Me and my mate very much modelled ourselves on Bob and Terry and there were loads of similaritys between them and us. I was Very much Bob and my mate was Terry. We watched this all the time although I was born in 1973 and my mate in 1974. Unfortunately my mate passed away suddenly in 2014. Looking back on some marvelous video I have of us two we were definitely the original likely lads l. God bless up there kidder.

How bizarre , or perhaps not as my friend and were likened to them by his mother. I became a Chartered Accountant and he a engineer in a factory that closed and he was redundant on his 30th birthday. He then started a motor garage, Sadly, he died in 2002 aged 55.

Haven’t seen this wonderful episode since the 70s and it still delivers. The acting and script were top rate and with such a flow you can never seen the joins. Really clever concept even now because this is comedy and yet its light drama when you peel away the layers. 😎👌

Amazing writing casting and the art of being true to your characters. 70s TV sitcom magic as Rodney Bewes and James Bolam take us through their misadventures of aspiration and dissafection..the comedy contrast of these two worked perfectly. Huge TV audiences
