If they hadn't legally cleared it, it should never have been advertised. There's an infinite number of reasons they wouldn't be allowed to do it, from unpaid labor for developing the mod, to untold licencing issues. The simply never should have promised it.

Edited: Well that’s really unfortunate, the mod did the game justice by adding more content that made the game feel more complete, and I feel it should’ve been available on all consoles. I have it on my I.O.S, and I really like it a lot. If Saber does remake K.O.T.O.R.2, I hope they do these things. Things they could add to K.O.T.O.R.2 remake: - Give the Jedi Exile male and female voice lines like with Player Revan in K.O.T.O.R.1. - Keep the unlimited Kinrath spawn cave where if you killed all them in the crystal area, go out that little area, replace one of your characters, go back into the area where they all respond, kill them, go back, replace character, go back inside, kill them all again, repeat until all the characters have over 1,225,000 experience. - Talk to Bao Dur more to talk about the past, and how the Jedi Exile feels about it. - Give more hints to where Player Revan went. - Talk to Mandalore/Canderous to find out more of his past and why the armor looks different than Mandalore the Ultimates helmet. - Give more conversations with Mandalore/Canderous. - For the hologram of Canderous and Player Revan, add voice lines. - Allow the player to explore more of Dantooine after completing the main quest of fighting with Khoonda. - Allow the player to return to Onderon after completing two more planets to explore a new area to mess around with it, idk. - After completing the first half of Onderon, don’t kill off most of the Mandalorians so the player can continue side quests with them. - Allow the player to return to Freedon Nadd’s temple. - Add the part with the Jedi Master on Korriban (forgot her name) where you could meet her in the Ludo Kresh, and try to go with her back to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine but can’t cause she sacrificed herself to face against Sion and let the Jedi Exile escape, or fight her. - Make Malachor V (minus the Trayus Academy) more interesting instead of just having Storm Beasts and be in a rocky area, and go inside parts of the Mass Shadow Generator. - Give Darth Revan some voice lines from K.O.T.O.R.1, both the male and female short voice lines. - Expand on Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion’s backstory. - Expand on the ending, have it where in the Light Side ending, the Jedi Exile sets out to restore the Jedi Order, and in the Dark Side ending, rule train Sith, and in both, the Jedi Exile goes on to find Player Revan in the Unknown Regions.

The issue that the video addresses is that Aspyr announced that they would release dlc for the game which is actually a mod for the pc version. The reason why it is a big deal is that most people see it as essential to have in order to play the game because of all the stuff it adds, which was initially cut from the game, and all the game breaking bugs the mod fixed.

The second worst part about this whole debacle is that there's nowhere to even go on the aspyr support website to submit your request, if you try and click "submit a request" in the top right corner, nothing even happens. A mismanaged company releasing an unfinished game with a useless support website. At least they're consistent with their constant failures.

I decided to get Republic Commando. I had a tough time deciding between that and Jedi Academy, but RC just has a special place in my heart. It sucks that the RCM isn’t coming out. At least we can still play the game and enjoy most of what Obsidian put together, but it’ll never be as complete as that mod.

I'm disappointed but not surpirsed, sadly. I did wonder if it was worth picking up even during the May 4th sale due to all this, but I never did a full playthrough of the TRCM so only have the base game and my memories of that, and playing Kotor 1 on Switch has been great. So I picked up Kotor 2 on sale along with Jedi Academy and Outcast. The question is, do I get TFU, Republic Commando or Episode 1 racer 🤔

Excellent video. I like that you're showing both sides to this whole issue. I get irritated looking at all the comments on Aspyr's Twitter because people get so angry at them without realising what it actually takes to bring over the DLC to Switch. There's most likely a reason Aspyr stayed silent about the whole situation, they clearly weren't simply ignoring us. It's a shame the DLC never arrived, it's also sad to hear what happened to most of the Aspyr staff since the cancellation of their development of the KOTOR remake. Hoping that Aspyr move on now and bring us more Star Wars games, since the beginning all I really wanted was the OG Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Switch haha

I spoke with a member of the mod team who was in contact with Aspyr, and said they had no problem at all with Aspyr. Aspyr was definitely committed to bringing this out. They weren't at liberty to say anything beyond that, leading me to think there's an NDA in place. But it probably was legal friction from higher ups. It's somewhat rare territory to officially bundle fan dlc. Skyrim Anniversary did it, but not from the free stuff. At this point, I think many would appreciate official support of the fan bug fix patch, which has topped many players load order for years and represents work Bethesda should have done itself but they couldn't justify the patch submission costs on console (so they claimed at one point anyway). But nope, using that still turns off your achievements. However, Anniversary has fan content all from Creation Club. This is already a paid mod category they run, so the modders there are essentially freelance workers who have financial agreements with Bethesda. Probably makes it easier to do something like this (from the legal side) with contracts already signed and modders getting paid. Pure speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone from Embracer's (or Lucas Arts) got worried that one of the mod team might get in it their head to hire a lawyer to see if they were entitled to a cut of sales if the metric ticked up after the dlc came out. Not saying they would! But risk management folks are all about, well, managing risks. They hate a what if.

Why not then just send over a legal agreement to the modders that says they agree and understand they are forfeiting any pay for said work and accept having their names published in the credits in return for the use of their work? It should be easy to write a contract where people sign away their right to sue.

@@SnakeKillsDumbledorf well like I said, I'm just speculating. But what I've gathered from the tight lipped folks who've made any comment is it seems to be some legal snafu from higher up the chain. It may just be that this got to the level of Lucas Arts or Disney (as the parent owners of the brand) and they just flatly said no without wanting to argue about it. But that's just me guessing on limited info. It sounds like, from the mod team member I did have contact with, that what you mentioned probably existed in some form at Aspyr's level, but it may not have satisfied legal at Embracer Group or Lucas Arts.

Maybe they shouldn’t’ve jumped the gun and waited until all their ducks in a row before releasing anything. Personally, I would’ve just built the RCM into the Switch port, got all the permissions and all the red tape handled, then released it all at once instead of releasing the vanilla version with a trailing dlc.

Ridiculous their only solution was give everyone a choice of one free game from a list that often is on sale for $1.00. At this point I believe people who pre ordered should legally complain. They sold the game on the fact that this DLC and the mod would be coming. Them and Nintendo need to be held accountable. Extremely scummy as is Nintendo's refund policy. If you try and claim a refund, [from what I have read online] they can block your system ever being able to make eshop purchases again. Which given that requesting a refund requires your system imei number Id believe. Wont be buying anything non-physical again. Nor pre-ordering anything again. I already own the game on steam and original Xbox and only reason I wanted it on switch is id prefer to play the game with dlc on a console. equally having seen the fuck up happening with companies over the remake wont even entertain the thought of buying that. One massive mess in the grand scheme of things. Equally i already own all those games on their original platforms. so the "compensation" is complete bs.

They don't have to offer refunds. They are legally obligated to offer them, at least in EU. If you ask refund and they refuse, contact your consumer protection services and they'll sort it out. Does not hurt to inform them that you'll escalate the situation legally as is your right and oftentimes this alone can make them relent to offer the refund with some PR excuse like "well okay we'll be nice this time" as to pretend the legality of the matter is not the reason.

I’m hugely disappointed by the news. This was the sole reason I bought this game on Switch. I think I’d still be bitter even if they did offer refunds. It just feels like a kick in the teeth, especially after such a lengthy wait period. I find it crazy how in the last two years we’ve gone from a pseudo-KOTOR revival back to square one again. I really hope this part of the franchise gets the attention it deserves from management that doesn’t loosely play with grand promises or gestures again.

Didn’t you report at one point that a developer had said it was in a playable condition and was being held until the Limited Run physical copies shipped? If some developer at Aspyr made off with a build of the DLC and snuck it to the homebrew crowd, it could still make it to the fans. …Obviously, that’ll never happen, but hope springs eternal.

If Aspyr learned of anything from this is this: You don’t announced what you want to deliver/promise to customers and fans if you can’t get the legal stuff out of the way. Wait till you get the legal stuff out of the way first before you announce the DLC, this way you don’t get anyone angry. I hope all companies learned from this as well. As gamers and Star Wars fans, I urge everyone to voice their voice and anger over social media. If this does result in a lawsuit over false advertisement, I do feel sorry for the devs but you don’t advertise something you cant deliver. But as a gamer and Star Wars fan, I think we should make our choice if it does come to that. I for one am not going for the free game because it’s a slap in the face and I am angry for this! At least I can play the mod on my PC. As for Aspyr, I’m not supporting them or Embracer for now till they get their acts together because if one studio/game does this type of crap, sooner or later it’s all games. And as always, don’t Pre order, don’t buy day one, don’t buy into the hype! So many companies include and credit fan-made mods and projects. Disney just has to be "We don't do that here.". I also don't want to put all the beans on Aspyr's side. If they truly fought for this to go ahead for US, the community, they don't deserve negativity. We all know who's behind the boondoggle that is Star Wars, *as a whole*, in our present lifetime.

Yeah this really sucks because I already have all those games on the switch plus I already have those games on steam as Kotor 1 and 2. So for someone like me they need to buy me another game or something because I only bought it for that reason.

Im really not content with getting another game for free. I already have those games on PC I have no interest i getting the exact same game on switch. The whole reason I even purchased this was for the new experience of the this specific port of the game.

I don’t buy this whole they couldn’t say anything crap without approval. There’s nothing stopping a company from very briefly saying something like, due to legal issues, there is a delay. More info will be given at a later date. That’s it, so how is that not allowed? What legal stop really exists to say something that brief without giving anything away from being said, that surly doesn’t break any policy. Also If there was this code of silence in place, then how were you able to get information from a source within Aspyr, it’s just bullshit PR to save face. I just think that’s an easy scapegoat to get out of getting fan backlash. Tbh I’m done now with Aspyr, I don’t even want anything to do with them, so they can keep their free game offer. They’ve taken the piss out of us for to long. End of the day, if they didn’t balls the Kotor remake up in the first place, this wouldn’t have happened. So no one to blame but themselves. They could of honoured the fans and just said something, even just to say sorry about the delay, anything would have been better than nothing, as instead we were all left angered being ignored, so fuck them. I’m sorry but they’ve taken the piss out of us, and we’ve put up with enough crap now. They should never have promised this from the start if they didn’t have the legal go ahead from the start. That is complete incompetence and arrogance from a company massively out of its depth. I can see why they lost out making the remake as they were probs cocky thinking they would smash this, then we’re given a huge reality check. After seeing their true colours, I’m glad the remake was taken off them, so they couldn’t shit on us some more down the line on a more important title. Good riddance.

Because I had friends in the company who told me and technically broke their personal NDA's - that's pretty much it. And while it may not seem like "There's nothing stopping a company from briefly saying something" - I can assure you that the legality of these license agreements is insanely strict and can have massive repercussions if broken in anyway. Sigh... pretty despicable. Despite the delays i still believed it was just delayed. This is just awful. I don't want another game(i already have the jedi knight ones which are great), i want the DLC. They don't even have the decency to say why.

It's moments like this that make me a bit proud and at times relieved that I'm a PC gamer since childhood. Helps that we're getting a wave of polished releases in the last several days with the likes of Live A Live, System Shock Remake, We ❤️ Katamari REROLL, and maybe even the Etrian Odyssey trilogy remaster... this better be our Battle of Midway for this rough ports year, especially in case the MGS: Master Collection is a surprise success when it comes out. Also, praise be to our modding community!

My assumption is that taking fan made content, porting it to a different system advertising and profiting from the game in combination with fan made content could potentially open all large companies involved to lawsuits. Imagine the game sold gangbusters and made a crapton of money. I would imagine lawyers would be hitting up anyone who had anything to do with the restored content mod to work pro bono until they cashed in on a big check from every company partnered with Aspyr. I assume the companies associated would feel its not worth the potential legal exposure even if there was a low chance of a lawsuit being filed. Thats a shame tho. I have heard so many great things about the game (never played it) and having a complete version on the go with the switch might have been the lure to get me to dive in.

When I heard this news I assumed it was probably due to a legal issue. One of the big problems I imagine they had... and this is my speculation, I do not know if this was actually an issue... is the mod probably had contributions from a lot of people. Contributions that were not carefully tracked, because who cares? But releasing a bunch of work made for free is one thing... taking that content and packaging it up for a commercial release is something else. Now, the DLC was going to be free itself, which would resolve a lot of the issues I'd think, but they might still need a bunch of legal sign-offs from the developers of the mod. If they can't find someone or the someone refuses to sign off, you have a big problem. An alternative is that there was some content in the DLC Disney objected to, or something, but it would seem odd that it delays things for a year. Either Disney signs off, or they don't, and Aspyr has to either cancel the DLC or modify it to remove said content. So I doubt something like that is the case.

I really haven't played any of the KOTOR game, or any of the ports Aspyr made, but I really do have to say, this is honestly a shady move. I can understand the complications with bring a mod to a official game, what issues it could raise, but ultimately the end result is no excuse. I can respect Aspyr addressing the fact that they are unable to release their product, but that courtesy is as far as it goes. The wise decision for Aspyr to do is to cut their losses and give out refunds, that way that could've salvage whatever trust they had with the fans. Instead, they chose to go with assumptions and offer free choice of the selected games. What if the fans already got those games? What then? That would draw such a huge legal problem to Asypr with perhaps this going to court and thus bringing about Aspyr's end, financial loss, staff leaving or being cut etc. Asypr should give out refunds while they still can before it's too late, otherwise, LucasGames should look for another company to do ports for past games. Again, this is a really shady move for Asypr, and I'm really disappointed in them.

I have all except racer on the switch got them all on discount. This is gonna hurt aspyr in the long run. But we all got scammed and got half a game 😢
