So you want to have a wish granted. You make a device that can track the energy emitted by seven wish orbs so you can hunt them down and summon a massive Dragon just for him to say “I can’t do that”. You can’t grant any wish? I wish I knew what the limits of all the Dragon Balls are.

No better place to start than the Dragon Balls on Earth. These Dragon Balls were originally made by Kami at some point after he split himself in two - since Demon King Piccolo didn’t know about them. Kami also felt nostalgic when he created them, but called it a racial memory instead of just a memory. This should mean he was likely able to make them without being taught like Namekians in the Dragon Clan on Namek are. It also explains their clear weaknesses and differences from their Namekian counterparts.

At 3:07 I say there's a "1 year revival limit" on the Dragon Balls. This is contentious so I went with the popular interpretation since I didn't want to get too lost in the sauce. The other interpretation is that the Dragon Balls can't revive LARGE groups outside of the past year (aka the Saiyans won't get revived). It's worded vaguely enough to apply to any revival wish though and with the body restoration issue I mention in the video and souls being reincarnated - it would make sense to have a limit on when individuals could be revived as well. Just thought I'd mention it here!

I believe that the Super Dragon Balls (and perhaps even Zalama himself) were created to be equal in power and ability to Grand Zeno himself; to reverse whatever Zeno had previously done and be a balance of creation to Zeno's destruction. We see this throughout Super; Future Zeno erased Zamasu, despite him being granted immortality by Super Shenron, and Super Shenron was able to restore the universes that Zeno had erased. It's a balancing act. Both are able to counter the others' decisions effectively

You gotta give Shenron a break, Goku and co ask for some pretty ridiculous stuff compared to normal people. Of course he started off the series by saying "I can grant any possible wish" and by the end he's saying "uh... maybe I can grant that wish". Before the Z-Fighters, Shenron was probably used for millions of dollars, bringing a loved one back to life, etc... so he couldn't think of a wish he couldn't grant. After the Z-fighters discovered the dragon balls, now he's being asked to stop super powered space aliens, revive the majority of the population of a planet, and to turn a mortal into a god.

It's all meta plot-related stuff. In the beginning it was this wondrous, magical thing. The culmination of an adventure. By the end, it's just a revive potion they pick up on farm from a little green man who lives in the sky. Of course people would be asking for the power to be a god left and right. Fame? Wealth? Longevity? Scientific breakthroughs? All acquirable by asking for *power*. In an adventure show, wishes are cool. A reward that can shake up the status quo. In a wrestling show about working out and then beating up the bad man, they can't be allowed because they'd undermine the premise.

My theory is that Zamasu wasn't completely immortal anymore after he fused with Goku Black. This is also proven when he puts a fight against Vegito. Vegito's attack damage him which if Zamasu would be immortal, it should never happen. But Goku's body was not immortal. Thus fused Zamasu wasn't 100% immortal either.

Or… it’s entirely possible that Broly’s power level just depleted so low after getting wrecked by Gogeta for 4 minutes straight that his power level went lower than Dende’s. Same thing happened to Goku in the Buu saga where Shenron can restore Goku’s energy without requiring his permission.

The super dragon balls making zamasu immortal was true. Zeno never "killed" him by definition. He destroyed the entire universe. Zamasu ceased to exist. With regards to the "intact body to revive characters" part, my theory is that if the person was strong enough, it would take another wish to remake their body - which before the multiple wishes upgrade was a pretty big deal - and with exceptionally strong people like Frieza, regenerating their body would be beyond Shenron's power. As for Zamasu's immortality, the definition of Immortality is "living forever; never dying or decaying." When Zeno erased the timeline, Zamasu wasn't killed, he simply stopped existing. He's neither alive nor dead, mortal nor immortal, because he doesn't exist anymore. This isn't a limit of the Super Dragon Balls, it's a limit of immortality.

I doubt fixing Freiza's body was beyond Shenron's power. There's nothing stating he's incapable of lying and since he knows the specifics of Frieza's death he probably knows that he was gonna pop the Earth and just didn't want to do it. Porunga goes out of his way to do extra bits unasked for while Shenron only goes by what you say with the exception of giving Piccolo "a little extra" that one time. Freiza was turned into space sushi so he'd be revived as space sushi since he didn't like him, I mean Goku was atomized by Cell's suicide attack and was revived just fine and he was way stronger than Mecha Frieza at that point.

Your immortality thing doesn't work either since Beerus himself said he couldn't kill him, even when showcasing his own Destruction/Hakai (which destroys the target beyond conventional life and death as it effects matter, energy and the soul) on present Zamasu earlier on. I think the most plausible theory is that Zeno's powers are just waaay more powerul than the GoDs (the term used for his "Erasure" power seems to be specifically different than the GoDs' "Destruction"). But the theory mentioned by others in the comments that Zeno and the Super DBs can just cancel each other out with their powers is also plausible.

There's a big difference there; if it just destroys the target but the components of the target still exist in some form, then immortality would just put the components back together. If it's true erasure, like with what Zeno does, then there's nothing to bring back. The target is a house. Killing the target is leveling the house. Hakai/Destruction is turning the house to "dust" on sub-atomic levels. Erasure is making the house cease to exist in _any_ fashion.

I have an idea on the body preservation point. In DB and early DBZ they were fairly new to using the dragon balls to revive people so they did not know all of the details and kept the bodies safe in case they were not restored, eventually they came to a point where they did not have a choice as bodies were completely destroyed and had to wish them back anyway and see if it worked, which it did. As for Frieza we see that he is still alive when he is in pieces so we could assume that the wish brings them back to life in a state that they could survive in, most people need their whole body to survive but a race like Frieza was able to live as pieces so he was brought back like that, it could also just been Shenron not trying as hard to revive Frieza since he kinda has a bias as we see Shenron giving Piccolo that extra power as a bonus on top of his wish in Super Hero

On the topic of immortality and hidden potential, something I've always wondered is why the Z-Fighters don't use the Dragonballs to wish for shortcuts to power or training. Goku would refuse because he likes to train and fight and Vegeta yada yada "Saiyan Pride", but I would think people like Yamcha or Krillen would love a way to more adequately keep up with the strongest of them, to say nothing of Non-Z-Fighter humans. Doesn't have to even be a wish for a higher power level or transformation. Something as straightforward as "I wish I could have a Zenkai boost like the saiyans." Or "I wish I could easily learn and incorporate martial arts over time."

1:43 Goku DID suggest wishing for 2 more wishes (at least in the dub). episode 244, when they're talking about reviving everyone with the dragon balls, piccolo mentions that they already used 1 wish to revive vegeta's victims, then goku says maybe if they ask really nicely shenron will give them 2 more wishes, and piccolo says it might work and wouldn't hurt to try.

To be fair, Shenron being confident he could initially grant any wish makes sense at that point in the series. He had no reason to believe anyone would be stronger than Kami or that the series would go beyond Earth and into space.

It was great to see as much as the DBs are used as Deus Ex mcguffins to cop out of certain events, Toriyama still did what he could to create rules to prevent it from being overly abused and an all in one problem solver. Even with bringing people back to life at the end, the story and battles always maintained asense of urgency and mentality of the importance of life. The best use of DBs in the story has to be in the Buu saga. When Vegeta was humbled to the point where he realized brute forcing Kid Buu was useless, he got the Kais to use the Namekian wishes to bring back Earth for Goku's spirit bomb. Vegeta showed real selflessness with the wishes, getting pummeled to buy time, and was great to see him acting like a real leader as the Saiyan Prince. Instead of using it as a petty title. Then we all know how Iconic that final Spirit Bomb was. Those 3 wishes made for a true anime ending, but it made for an incredible end to the story until DB Super.

It is important to note that Zeno doesn't appear to use destruction based attacks like the gods of destruction, but uses complete erasure, which would ignore any form of immortality or anything else going on for a being, especially since we have never seen anything be able to resist erasure, so Zamasu was still immortal, but he was not eternal or other forms of terminology to make him integral to existence and non-existence, which would have prevented being erased (arguably) since it would have made him a necessary component for everything and nothing.

I assume the 'restored universe' wish automatically included the participants on the grounds of them being from that universe and thus qualifying automatically. It would be pretty scummy for Super Shenron to intentionally not bring back those who got erased for their universe.

It's implied that whenever Super Shenron grants a wish, he REMAKES THE ENTIRE OMNIVERSE to accomplish it. Or at least that's what it seems like in the Super anime; that's the impression a friend and I had while watching Super together, anyway.

My headcanon was always that "the wish can't go beyond the power of the creator", is basically like a perk point system from videogames. the more powerful/experienced the creator of the dragonballs is and hasd a higher level so to speak. the more perk points can the creator give to the dragonballs. it just so happens that the namekians didn't pick the multi revival per wish option and have choosen and spent the points into 3 wishes and multiple revives per person. so it doesn't mean that the creator himself can do the feats of the wish granting dragon. but rather just enable the dragon to do the feats.

Wouldn’t the zamasu argument against the super dragon balls be flawed? It’s been a while since I watched the show but he wished to be immortal right? And Zeno has no problem wiping out other immortal beings, even if the details are slightly different. Also Zeno doesn’t really “kill” them, it’s more like erase. No amount of immortality can save you from being literally erased by Zeno. Also we’ve seen the super dragon balls undo zenos ability to erase things.

Frieza's body being restored in pieces is explicitly stated by Shenron to be because it's been longer than a year since Frieza died, so Shenron was unable to restore his body completely, only being able to revive him in the state his body was in before he died. Also, about the Namekian Dragon Balls taking 130 days to restore themselves, those are Earth days, which is about how long one Namekian year is.

I always view being immortal is depend on power behind it. Superior power with Hakai or any equivalent of soul-destroying technique can kill weaker-powered immortality, so of course the god of everything, include existence itself, can end another existence he created. I always found it weird in Heroes, Zamasu is actually survived being erased and Hearts, using Universe Seed, can erased Zamasu, meaning his erasure technique is superior to Zeno.

King Piccolo being able to kill Shenron despite being weaker is easily explained: King Piccolo caught Shenron by complete surprise, so the Eternal Dragon's guard wasn't up. It's been shown several times throughout the series that a stronger opponent can be damaged by someone weaker than them if the stronger fighter's guard is down.

Zeno and super shenron are just immovable object vs unstoppable force. Zeno was able to erase even someone immortal, a wish made by the super dragon balls. But Zalama was able to completely undo Zeno's erasure, something that's absolute. It's not like the wish made was to be immune to zeno's erasure. Besides, it's kind of silly to compare hakai to what zeno does otherwise all of the GoDs might as well be another zeno.

I think that Zeno and Super Shenron are actually on par, because they’ve both undid the others actions. SShen made Zamasu immortal, however, Zeno was still able to erase him. Also Zeno erased the universes in the TOP, yet SShen brought them back. So I think their power is equal.

To me, the dragon balls are basically a tool to access 4th dimensional capabilities. They are limited by the power of their creator but not limited to their capabilities. Essentially, it is granting access to acts of true creation/destruction up to a certain power limit.

I believe there's a pretty distinct divide between battle prowess (IE: Power levels, Ki, strength and speed) and magic (Granting wishes, Changing the state of things, transporting between worlds, creating things) in the Dragonball universe. This is why we can have universe-building gods, wish granting dragons and centuries-old sorcerers that actually have pretty limited battle prowess. That's not to say that nobody capable of magic can be a great fighter: we have tons of magic going around in the Z-warriors and the villains of Z. Majin Buu's Candy beam, Tien's multi-form technique, Piccolo's Clothes Beam, Roshi's Mafuba, Devilman's evil expansion, Dende's healing, The Fusion Dance, Dabura's ability to turn people to stone, maybe even the Spirit Bomb and Instant Transmission techniques... but it has been proven time and time again that a person with battle prowess significantly higher than their opponent's magical prowess can cause magic to have unexpected effects. Such like Buuhan turning Gogeta into chocolate, only for Gogeta to be perfectly capable of fighting in that new form, or Piccolo being able to reflect Kami's mafuba back at him. The same applies to the Dragons and Gods of Creation: They are creatures with vast magical potential but limited battle prowess.

Zeno erases people and univeres from existence meaning they should never be able to be brought back, yet Zalamas dragon balls can restore them. Zalama's dragon gave Zamas immortality yet Zeno was able to kill him. They can both bypass eachothers power. Zalama and Zeno are 2 sides of the same coin, One creates one destroys.

technically, being Erased by Zeno isn't the same as being outright killed. Rather than die, you simply cease to exist completely. Also, you forgot the fact that when Zamasu fused with black, He was only half immortal in his new body. his mortal half slowly deteriorating as the fight progressed in the anime. This is also why Trunks was able to destroy his physical body with his "spirit sword" in the anime. (and also why his immortal soul continued to persist afterward needing Zeno to erase him)

Remember people. Vegeta was a member of the Freeza force all the way until midway through the Namek arc. As a matter of fact, he was still registered as a member in official documentation likely until far after the Namek arc ended. As far as we know, Vegeta may still be a registered member of the Freeza force today. It all depends on how up to date they keep their files. But we know for sure that he would have been registered at the time he used the healing pod after leaving Earth. This is all important because of the wish made in the Namek arc. The wish to revive all those killed by Freeza and his men. Vegeta was one of Freeza's men. Vegeta killed Nappa. Nappa is alive somewhere on Earth right now.
