Philosophy aims for universals, otherwise it gains no authority and cedes it wholly to science.

Nivi said uprooting prejudice is not as easy as Tim said. He just finished saying not to underestimate how difficult of a challenge it is. Was she not listening?

The far-left categories exhibited by Chak and Nivi are a sad reminder of how academic standards have gone down hill. Highlighted by Timothy Williamson suprising both of them that universal truths exist independent of the grievances aired from culture studies.

Chak was actually perfectly reasonable here. Nivi kind of shuts up at some point when she doesn't get massive agreement for her postmodern platitudes, and doesn't have any knowledge about what modern, technical philosophy does and how other traditions of philosophy could interact with it. Chak seems to, and his suggestion of dehistorising the other traditions andpresenting them as a new source of philosophical insight without playing up its "indianness" or whatever, is actually the practical one.

Islamic philosophy is the natural continuation of late antique persian philosophy which, even by its insiders, was considered as the extention of greco-roman paradigm . So you'd better not to classify that in the same category which the other non-western philosophies belong to.

Ancient western, modern western, and Buddhists thought about logic. To say something like "it's western imperialism to suggest that only one, assumed to be western, can be true" is to discredit the eastern logicians; they're asking meaningful questions that are either right or wrong, I'm not sure patting them on the head and undercutting their very reason to be doing the serious, perhaps wrong, perhaps right, work they were doing is doing them any favours.

Perhaps a good topic for discussion would be the formulation of a Set of Definitions that could form the Basis for a New Philosophical Tool . . . Definitions that would encompass the various Sciences/Disciplines such as Physics, Mathematics, etc., starting with the Worlds Language(s) that would be used.

It's great that Nivi is on the panel, else the question does not get addressed nor is it a debate. Quite boring without her. Thanks Nivi for your insights. Loved the quotation shared.

Nivi's language shows she's been corrupted by postmodernist anti-Western grievance. She began by linking philosophy to politics.

To her credit she did agree that overcoming prejudice ways of thinking is very difficult. There is no reason think it should be any less difficult for those stuck on the crimes of the past as it is for the rest of us.

Darryl White Exactly right you are. If you've got a child, you might send them to study math. It's one of a few diciplines not contaminated by the corruption of far-leftism.

"Beware , beware of the Man of one Book, for a Man of one book is filled with half truths and there is no greater lie than a half truth, for a half truth is made to look like all the truth". remember that. " All men love life, all men fear death, see yourself in others, then whom can you harm, be harmless." Money talks...people die, that's all folks." wars built on lies economies of war constant killing, yes I welcome extinction, we get what we deserve. What goes around comes around, what you do to others, you do to yourself. We own the world says USA Born to kill says USA. Rest of you are in denial, narcissistic denial.

I think what Chakravarthi Ram-Prasad says at around 25:00 is pretty important.

Western, Chinese, Indian and Islamic Philosophy..... the only religion that can provide a body of knowledge for thinking seems to be Islam according to academia 🤔

You can't have universal truths (plural), if truth is multiple then it's relative and so not universal. Universal truth is the truth of what everything really is, as a whole.

Universal truths: we are all connected, nothing can travel faster than light, nothing can reach absolute zero.

There's philosophies that are basically holistic and reactive policies to the Observation of environmental conditions, and these are worth studing and integrating into global culture, and then there's the emotion based reaction +/-, that degenerates into a "battlefield for bigotry". Growing up in Australia is in an environment of the best and worst.., the cause-effect of development of a desperate need to analyze and synthesize a discovery of the first principle by constant discrimination and revision of multi-cultures. There are many "thumb-rules" traditional peoples use, philosophy-based when interpreted by a-cultural interest, that have a substrate of actual intelligence of existence and behavior under adverse circumstances. Les Hiddens and "Bush Tucker Man", plus "Bush Mechanics" are very positive experiences.., particularly when you know "where they've been" that is common in the Country as a whole. All things are connected, and a "Philosophical" approach/acceptance of life is too restrictive an attitude toward natural complexity.
