Thank you british man playing minecraft now i know the formula for the licon index!

Haha! Well I’m not as British as you think, but no problemo!

i love it when people use minecraft as an educational tool!! you remind me of gneiss name but i recommend increasing the bit rate because it gets quite blurry at times even at 1080p

Thanks, Gneiss is a big inspiration of mine (no pun intended). And while I am just a student, I do study geology aswell, so I might make some videos even more in his likeness! As for the quality I’m really sorry, but thanks for telling me about that, I’ll be sure to try a bigger bitrate in the future!

Quite informative. Did you make this due to an interest in math or in conservation?
@ThatJosax2 күн бұрын
An interest in conservation. I study a subject called ‘environmental sciences’ at college (16-18 yrs in the uk) and this is one of the formulae’s we have to learn about. Since I found it interesting I decided to a video about it, that way I could teach others, practice editing and do a little bit of revision for class!

@ it’s neat :) I’ll probably never get involved but it’s always interesting to learn a bit more about the way the world works.

2:00 are you sure they're all ewes an not a couple rams or wethers?
@ThatJosax2 күн бұрын
No way of telling within the game. But since the goal was to estimate the whole population it isn’t relevant luckily! Sorry I can’t perfectly answer your question

@@ThatJosax the joke is because you kept saying "you, you, you", which sounds like "ewe, ewe, ewe" :)

this is just amazing :o ill have to try this out sometime- i wonder how the formula was derived- i assume just the probability that they are in both groups right?
@ThatJosax4 күн бұрын
hmmm I wonder as well

it's not written in a way thats easy to wrap your head around. It's much easier for me to think of it as the size of group 1 (G1) divided by the percentage of G1 members in G2. So we have 20 sheep in group 1, and they make up 20% of a random survey of the population (group 2). From this we can assume that we've tagged 20% of the animals in the population. And since we've tagged 20 animals, we can estimate that 20 animals is 20% of the total population. Final estimate of the total population: 100 animals!
@TheBreadFish2 күн бұрын
i see- after i posted this comment i tried to figure out how they derived the formula- which i was also able to find from the probability of the animals being in both groups. thanks for another explanation! :o

@@finlandtrip2360that’s a really good explanation of it, I’m going to remember that for class! Thanks!
