They will send a billions of funds they earned from oil (government) to advertise a city, let them start living etc. The Line should produce MW of energy to cover oil industry, building and all the funding, benefits etc. because there is no way people will move in to something like that. What they will do in a desert? No cars, no mechanics, no Uber drivers - thousands couldn't live in due to lack of jobs. City just got programmers and developers? I think they prefer to live closer to mountains, skiing and many other activities ;)

What's baffling to me is the simple question how logistics will work. I mean, it should be immediately apparent: instead of building e.g. 100 km in one line, you could build 10 lines at 10 km length. The maximum distance you would have to go in the first case to get from one end of the city to the other is 100 km, in the second case it's less than 20 km (assuming that the width of the line is less than 1 km). Having no intersections seems like an optimization to traffic, but it's logistically wasteful and must lead either to big jams in the middle of the city or loads of wasted, because rarely traversed space.

Maybe make a star with 10km lines going in other directions, that kind of makes sense? You can also make template cities which are a couple of kilometers wide and surround them with walls..? If that's what you like. And connect them by super high speed trains. Either way works. I don't know why the line. Maybe the guy wants his miracle, then.. sure, we have the tech, it can possibly work. Why not 10km modules though, I have no idea. In April of 2024, a minor, barely-worth-mentioning adjustment of the scale of The Line was announced. Instead of being 170 km/100 miles long, it will be 2.4 km/1.5 miles long - a 98.6% reduction of the original design. The reason given: something about there not being enough money. Who saw THAT coming? 🤔

who is stupid enough to think a 170km long and 500m tall glass and steel wall in the middle of nowhere is a good place to live in even with 100% solar electricity this thing will need an insane amount of water and food imports from all over the region the only way for those goods to arrive is by container ship and that is definitely not a plus for the environment the cost for this is now estimated at one trillion $ for that money they could have built hundreds of desalination plants and solar parks to prop up their agriculture instead
