They will send a billions of funds they earned from oil (government) to advertise a city, let them start living etc. The Line should produce MW of energy to cover oil industry, building and all the funding, benefits etc. because there is no way people will move in to something like that. What they will do in a desert? No cars, no mechanics, no Uber drivers - thousands couldn't live in due to lack of jobs. City just got programmers and developers? I think they prefer to live closer to mountains, skiing and many other activities ;)

What's baffling to me is the simple question how logistics will work. I mean, it should be immediately apparent: instead of building e.g. 100 km in one line, you could build 10 lines at 10 km length. The maximum distance you would have to go in the first case to get from one end of the city to the other is 100 km, in the second case it's less than 20 km (assuming that the width of the line is less than 1 km). Having no intersections seems like an optimization to traffic, but it's logistically wasteful and must lead either to big jams in the middle of the city or loads of wasted, because rarely traversed space.

I don't know where this will end but I greatly agree with somebody who said "why not build 10km then next 10km, etc", and the other "why not build a bunch of 10km lines". Maybe make a star with 10km lines going in other directions, that kind of makes sense? You can also make template cities which are a couple of kilometers wide and surround them with walls..? If that's what you like. And connect them by super high speed trains. Either way works. I don't know why the line. Maybe the guy wants his miracle, then.. sure, we have the tech, it can possibly work. Why not 10km modules though, I have no idea. Maybe it's something apocalyptic and only people inside the WALL will survive? Hope not!😂

They are building in layers (bad idea to start any construction). The result will be 174 km of unfinished construction. Instead of building 10 km of a city started, finished and with people living there. Then you can start, finish and live 10 more kilometers. And so on... This last concept is known as modular construction (the best idea to start any giant construction project).

who is stupid enough to think a 170km long and 500m tall glass and steel wall in the middle of nowhere is a good place to live in even with 100% solar electricity this thing will need an insane amount of water and food imports from all over the region the only way for those goods to arrive is by container ship and that is definitely not a plus for the environment the cost for this is now estimated at one trillion $ for that money they could have built hundreds of desalination plants and solar parks to prop up their agriculture instead

Saudi Arabia currently imports more than 80% of the food consumed in the nation desalination provides less than 15% of Saudi Arabia's annual water consumption please explain how this is sustainable at all, either financially or for the environment? I suppose you live there, from a European perspective it is pretty sad to see how your leaders go on about this they fall for Western architect firms that sell them megaprojects that will not return invest, it's a cash grab for our companies meaningful development of your country can absolutely be achieved but you're trusting the wrong people for that looking forward to your response, I am not hating on Saudi Arabia, a lot of these projects are just not well through through!

It is produced around 32 water desalination plants and extends desalinated water supplies to all regions of the Kingdom and agricultural areas. Saudi Arabia also leads the world in the production of desalinated water. It does not have rivers, but rather desalinates sea water and is a pioneer in the field. Multiply the area of the project x 100 levels x typical cost per sqm of construction in the region, and divide by 9-million residents. Keep in mind this is anything but 'typical' construction. Now calculate on top of this construction cost another 10% of that per year for operation and maintenance. Yeah, doomed before we start.

Thankyou for the concept. This will make cool backgrounds for some new futuristic Extraction Shooter game in the same theme as Spec Ops The Line. Maybe the game can be titled The Line: Survivor. Im not gonna lie, the verticality of the Neom will make a good battleground for scvengers. Maybe the main currency is just, water. Bottled water. Where the furthest part of Neom will give better loot but in order to go tho the furthest, the player need to drink a lot of water, hence needed to choose between fast bottled water looting gameplay, or long play of looking better gear but need a lot of water. Sounds good enough for me

Usually that part takes the longest. In the mean time there are probably tones of construction elements prefabricated in remote factories which will be brought to the site when the ground works are finalized. The building will start growing fast after that.

everything is ok... from putting tons of humans in only one place to isolating them away from nature... but one thing only a few people are talking about is, What about the overheat that will be produced daily on the sides of the building because of the mirror? What about the migration of long didstance animals that go through that place? What about the tons of workers that areyhere right now, their present situation or will they get something in their honor on the construction? What good will it do to humanity in general? Me? I only see a place for the rich to hide, i see where there will be an extreme disaster. I see a place that will lead to the destruction of many lives. In the end if that place don't affect me, i will not affect it. But if it comes around making something good for the planet, well that time i will thank you.

Вечно кто-то жжет какой-то мусор, а сборщики металолома неподалеку постоянно обжигают проводку и всю деревню заволакивает черный дым и вонь горящей резины, окна открыть невозможно. Летом с озера постоянно доносятся пьяные вопли, а в ресторане на озере с 10-12 дня до 5 утра орет раздражающая музыка, и менты на жалобы вообще не реагируют. Поскольку нет централизованной канализации, говно все сливают в озеро. Автобусов нет, инфраструктуры нет, скорая едет часами, так как деревня не в приоритете. Проведение газа, труба с которым в сотне метров, мы с соседями добивались годами, бесконечно платя огромные взятки. Интернета тоже ждали годами. Электричество постоянно отключают без предупреждения, порой его нет сутками (отопления, соответственно, тоже нет). Из-за скачков напряжения летит вся техника, в том числе дорогущий котел (скачки такие сильные, что обычные стабилизаторы не спасают). Снег никто не чистит, в этом году с осени практически каждый вечер и каждое утро вместо отдыха занимался расчисткой дороги и выталкиванием застрявших перед моим домом машин (и это при том, что я ужасно переношу холод). Жизнь в деревне - отстой.

@@LollipopUnicorny да в большинстве деревень сейчас жить не особо, за вычетом элитных поселков для богачей. До того, как переехали сюда, жили в деревне дальше от Москвы. Там не было металоломщиков и ресторана, зато открыли гигантскую нелегальную свалку и свиноферму под боком. И вырубили леса под трассу. А газа там нет до сих пор, поэтому либо платить космические суммы за электричество, либо топиться печкой

There is a lot in between the outskirts of Moscow and this waste of money in the desert. It's such a bad idea I really can't believe they're doing this. Look at the last mega project on the Arabian peninsula, burj khalifa. Most of it is empty and they have no connection to the sewerage. Every day many trucks have to come to bring all that sh*t away. That city is a gigantic waste of resources for the sake of prestige. It really is a joke.

Yeah.. moving millions of tons of materials, earth and water, CUTTING OFF the lifecycle of all the species living in desert (yes, there is a lot of migrating life in desert). In other terms - destroying everything to build nothing. Watch any breakdown of the project by some respectable architect. And me, like an egineer.. man.. when you have such a massive artificial habitat - so many things will go wrong. Just imagine an electrical explosion in any of the main distribution boxes.. a chunk of the city will go down. Air circulation, humidity control, temperature control... What a mess. Bro.. I can imagine some "futuristic way" of solving some stuff.. but we didn't move far from 304 stainless steel yet. Khalifa tower leaking pipes are a good example.
