Love the story and history of the truck! My father also has a 79 kw with the same paint job as that one with a 3406 cat A block in it. Gets used to haul grain year round still on our farm. Good old work horses!

Lot of war wounds on that ole K wobbler and it's still living to tell it's story through the love of the family. What an A model. That's trucking history at its finest.

The Detroit's, Cat's, and Cummins used to be painted by KW and Peterbilt white. International used to paint the engines red color at one time. The Cat's were yellow, Cummins a sand/beige color, the DD 2 strokes green, and the A-C's (Allis- Chalmers) were painted Royal Purple.

That mechanic is pretty brave painting that Detroit white. Look at that straight blade fan. Not alot of fan clutches then.

The thing with Detroits is because they don't have a torque rise like a Cat or Mack they don't damage the driveline or diffs and or depending who the driver is

O.k. can someone tell me what's going on. I'm sitting in downtown Vancouver Canada watching this video and right at the end when he fired up that Detroit, right at that moment I smelled diesel exhaust,...like I was there where the interview took place. Wild! Nice old truck.

I also had a 1980 KW with 8V-92TA. Great sound-it sounds like you have one injector firing too hard at idle (maybe the recording) I loved that engine, but was very maintenance intensive.

I'm just wondering if this is a silver series Detroit 8v92 they would run I drove a 79 cab over Peterbilt with a v8 cat 3208 with a 15 speed over drive transmission and 410 rear end gears and I tell you the only truck could pass me out on 81 was a silver series 8v92 specially when they were turned up they would run I had fuel turned up also not many of anything could pass me until a cab over Freightliner with a silver series was able to pull around me I know I was loaded heavy and the other driver told me that he had a bushel load on also I had to take his word but he was telling me the truth because he could barely get around me specially with the 15 over and 410 ratio rears I drop one out of over drive and talk about a powerful unit but one question why would you being a mechanic and being around Trucks would you only rebuild half the motor that is silly to me and anyone that knows about Trucks you do the whole motor now you have one side that is new but the other 4 cylinders can go at any time that I just don't understand that
