There is a great sample of foreshadowing in this movie. At the beginning, Mufasa says that one day, the sun of his ruling will set, and Simba will be the new king. Then Simba finds him dead AT SUNSET. And from this moment, the sun seemingly doesn't appear over the Pride Lands until he takes his rightful place as a king

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this movie, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa dead in the gorge always gets me in the heart. Especially the fact that Scar gaslights Simba into thinking it was his (Simba's) fault and Johnathan Taylor Thomas' line delivery. Also, I am very glad they cast James Earl Jones as Mufasa. As much as I respect the actor, they almost cast Christopher Walken. Side note: Some of the character's names have meanings translated out of Swahili Simba: Lion Nala: Gift Mufasa: King Sarabi: Mirage Rafiki: Friend Pumbaa: Slow-Witted Zazu: Movement Shenzi: Savage Banzai: Skulk or lurk Taka (Scar's original name): Waste Timon (His name actually comes from Greek): Respect or Honor

Someone may have already answered this and if so, sorry for repeating, but since you asked, the chant at the beginning of "The Circle of Life" is in the Zulu language and roughly translates to: "Here comes the lion, my people, the father (of our nation). We hail this coming of the lion. A lion. We will have victory! The royal lion wears his leopard spots."

The musical scores for this are fantastic. Holds the bar even in today's standards. Elton John and Hans Zimmer were the music composers so we have them to thank for the outstanding soundtrack. Lion King was the highlight, the peak, of Disney artistic and story endeavors of the 90s. There's a reason it is still the goal to reach for even 30 years later.

The Broadway musical is a PHENOMENAL masterpiece, I absolutely recommend searching it up! The characters and set pieces are all stylized and puppeteered with the purpose of integrating the human performers rather than trying to hide them, and it's one of the most unique and stunning things I have ever seen on a stage.

Not sure if anyone already answered your question about "what they're saying" in the opening song, haha - but here is the rought translation of the Zulu words: "‘Here comes a lion (king), dear father/brother - oh yes, it’s a lion (king). Here comes a lion (king), dear father/brother - oh yes, it's a lion (king). A lion we are going to conquer. A lion and a leopard both come to this open place."

My favourite Disney film- from the moment I saw it in the cinema at 10 years old and still my fave today. Couple of fun facts: The birds in the crocodiles mouths in can’t wait to be king are called plovers. They clean crocodiles teeth by picking out bits of food making it one of the most unusual partnerships in the animal kingdom with both parties benefiting. Fun fact two: Jeremy Irons (Scar) blew his vocal cords singing be prepared- you can actually hear when it happens. So while he was resting, his voice, Jim Cummings (the voice of Ed the giggling hyena) filled in and sang the rest of the song. Jim is an amazingly talented voice actor and did such a good job that audiences were none the wiser.

Alright so a few things: Spotted hyenas do actively compete with lions in real life. Both are equally "vicious" and are apex predators that will hunt their own food, steal from each other, and may kill each other when the opportunity arises- especially offspring of the other species. The Lion King was inspired by "Eternal Enemies", a documentary that focuses on lions and spotted hyenas. In reality, hyenas are incredibly resourceful and intelligent animals and are a very important part of the circle of life. There is never such a thing as an evil animal in nature. Zazu is a red-billed hornbill rather than a parrot. The skull Scar was holding belongs to a baboon rather than a lion.

Another thing the original cut had, but the final movie left out, is Nalas backstory. It was planed for Nala to be Scars daughter, her mother was Sarafina. If (as it is comon in animal kingdoms) the strongest lion aka the King is her father, that mean Nala is Simbas sister, otherwise just his cousin.

James Earl Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and It’s crazy to think The Lion King was considered at the time, pretty much the darkest Disney film, mainly due to Scar straight up murdering Mufasa. The Lion King was the first movie I saw in the cinema (and I don’t have any memory of that day because I was about 2 years old), but my mom and sister say that I never got so excited about an animation after that day. I simply loved your reactions; I got emotional with you, cried all over again, and was enchanted by you! Your comments, your expressions, everything is so genuine that it felt like I was showing my favorite animation to a friend. Thank you for this video! I apologize for my weak English; I’m Brazilian. Amazing reaction! I really would love for you to react to the rest of the franchise! I’d do it in this order: The Lion King, The Lion King 1 1/2, The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, and The Lion King Live Action. There is a tv series called The Lion Guard, which follows Simba and Nala’s second born Kion as he becomes the leader of the Lion Guard and protect the Pridelands from their enemies; it takes place during The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and not long after its ending. Also here’s some trivia; Hyenas are actually part of the feline family and a clan of hyenas are led by a female. Also in the original storyline, they actually had planned for Scar to find Simba besides Mufasa in distraught. Scar would pick him up by the mouth and attempt to kill him. Only to be interrupted by Sarabi and the lionesses, and they would’ve thought Scar had saved him. Simba would grow with Scar being his adviser. However, the production team thought it would best for him to run away in shame, so he’d be more humble and actually grew up from his carefree life style to take his place. 🦁👑🖤💛🧡❤️
