Well, I went to see this one time in New York a few years ago in late 2017 or so. I hardly remember the moments I had there. But considering the majestic music they played there that is considered to be better than the movie. It was amazing. You know, for a movie this huge on scale. The movie itself was pretty short for today’s standards. Only lasting 88 minutes.

When I saw the UK tour recently I thought a whole load had been chopped out fairly recently. Are you sure this is from as far back as 2013? Modern audiences get shafted compared to when it first came out. No morning report, no chase scene during Chow Down, no madness in The Madness of King Scar, no instrumental/swing break in Can You Feel The Love Tonight... Next they'll cut Hyena Inferno from Be Prepared at this rate and before long it'll just be a concert of the musical numbers. Ticket prices go up and the show gets shorter. Thanks for these uploads. They're a great record of the evolution of the show over the years.

Actually, they cut 9 minutes from the show in 2011, which was when they released the original movie in 3D. The original movie didn’t have the “Morning Report” song, and they added it to the film in the special edition DVD (because it already existed in the Broadway show at the time). When they released the movie in its original form without this song in 3D, the stage show also decided to remove this song in addition to the aerial dance interlude from CYFTLT and more than half of the Madness of King Scar number. The show actually didn’t cut out too much from itself, but I do agree that removing a substantial amount of the Madness number as well as the entire Morning Report number was a poorly thought out idea.

I loved lion king since I first saw it in Toronto in 2003. When I saw it again years later, I wondered what happened to some scenes as well! Morning report, some jokes between the hyenas and scar were gone, timon and pumba teaching simba how to eat slugs was shortened, and the spirits of the forest hanging from the leaves during can you feel the love tonight! It was almost a 3 hour show and later became a 2.5 hrs show!

I went to go see this at the Lyceum last month. I had never even known about this and pretty oblivious to TLK as a whole but this totally made my day. Its amazing that the actors of Mufasa and Scar have been going for 15 years. Purely beautiful, especially considering the scale of this adaption and the techniques used to fit everything on-stage. 👏

I got to watch this live on tour this year and It was sooo good. I live in mexico so there's not a lot of broadway tours that come here but this one did and I got the tickets!!! Loved that cast!! Loved Gerald Ramsey as Mufasa and Peter Hargrave as Scar. Looove their voices

Now it’s time to tell a story about Scar’s past. According to A Tale of Two Brothers, Scar was born under the name "Taka" which is Swahili for "dirt" or "trash" as the younger son of Ahadi and Uru. Taka became very upset when he found out that his older brother Mufasa was chosen to be the king over him, a decision which caused him much sadness and distanced him from his father and older brother. Over time, Taka came to resent Ahadi for favoring Mufasa and for choosing kingly duties over spending time with his sons. One day, Taka went on a daily patrol with his father and older brother. While they were patrolling the Pride Lands, the three ran into Rafiki, a traveling baboon who was fleeing from a trio of hyenas. Ahadi welcomed Rafiki into the Pride Lands and invited him to spend the night at Pride Rock after Taka acknowledged that they should’ve let the baboon die. When Mufasa stayed by his father's side throughout the ordeal, Taka wandered off, feeling very unconcerned with his father's doings. Later that night, Taka set a cobra on Mufasa, hoping to kill his brother in his sleep, but before it could do any damage, Rafiki thwarted the plan leaving nobody hurt. The day after the attempted murder, Ahadi had promised to take his sons out hunting, until a group of angry Pride landers had stalled him, and he was forced to cut the hunting trip short. Although Mufasa understood why his father had made that decision, Taka reacted with outrage and he accused his father of always finding other things to do when they were supposed to spend time together. In answer to his son's protests, Ahadi attempted to explain to Taka that Mufasa understood the pressures of ruling a kingdom, but Taka's temper only flared, and he accused Ahadi of favoring Mufasa. Despite the young lion's animosity, Ahadi decided to pursue his kingly duties, by leaving Taka alone to hunt with Mufasa. Before the hunt, Taka plotted with the hyenas Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed to get Mufasa in trouble with Ahadi so that their father might have second thoughts about Mufasa becoming king. So he tricked Mufasa into going down to the waterhole, where a selfish antagonistic buffalo named Boma was hogging one of the only water sources left even though there was a serious drought, and when Mufasa tried to reason with him, Taka incited him to challenge Mufasa to a fight. But that only angered Boma when Taka tricked Mufasa into angering him. When the buffalo began to chase Mufasa, Taka only laughed at his brother's fear until Boma's herd began to attack him giving him his scar on his left eye. Just in time, Ahadi came to the rescue to stop the attack and Rafiki helped resuscitate Taka at Pride Rock, where Rafiki cared for him until he was patched up enough to speak. Once recovered, Taka was told by his father that the scar he had earned will serve him a reminder of his recklessness. When Mufasa asked his younger brother why he made Boma really angry, Taka only admitted that he wanted to embarrass Mufasa and to get even with his father for breaking his promise earlier, then Ahadi warned his son, to keep his anger at bay. At first Taka was angry, but then he finally accepted his father's words, and from that day to this, Taka asked his family to call him "Scar" to remember the day of his embarrassment and failure. In his youth, Scar was tasked with leading the Lion Guard, and he was gifted with a powerful roar called the Roar of the Elders by the Great Kings of the Past. Which when used he summoned the Great Kings of the Past, to roar alongside him. During a scout in the Outlands, Scar met the Strange Lion, who claimed to have wisdom and the power and the most powerful one should be the king and with Scar's help and the roar, both lions would rule everything only to be made fun for his appearance and he however, killed the lion and the cobra with the Roar in a fit of uncontrollable fury. Upon returning to Pride Rock, Scar wanted to be praised but Mufasa mocked him to which that power got to Scar's head, and he believed that with this power, he should be the king instead of Mufasa. So he ordered his Lion Guard to help him dethrone Mufasa, and take over Pride Rock by using the Roar of the Elders. But when they refused to help assist him in his plot, Scar used the Roar to destroy them causing the Kings of the Past to take the power away from Scar leaving him weak.

My favorite character is Zazu because he is so funny. Plus, I like the part where Zazu says: Yes, but as the king's brother, you should have been first in line! Scar: I WAS FIRST IN LINE! Until that little hairball was born. Simba: That hairball is my son, and your future king! Scar: Oh! Well, I should practice my curtsy. Simba: DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME, SCAR!!! Scar: Oh no, Mufasa.
