I'm glad you form your own opinions through direct experience. Each of us has our own preferences and there's nothing wrong with that. But diplomatically passing over this aspect :) it must be said that Anette was with the band in perhaps the most difficult moments, receiving with them the anger of fans dissatisfied with Tarja's dismissal in 2005. And the 2 albums recorded with her are an obvious success in Nightwish's discography.

Anette is a former jazz singer, who sang jazz with her mother when she was in her teens,she also sang in a pop band before joining Nightwish. In my opinion her takes on Nightwish ballads are so good. Songs like Slow Love Slow, Eva, Meadows Of Heaven or Scaretale live, the way she did it, sp good.

I like Anette, especially in studio, the two albums they recorded with her are absolutely fantastic. I think her time with Nightwish was also just unlucky with a lot of factors pitted against her. I also miss Marko and what he brought to Nightwish, but his solo work is great and I'm also glad he and Tarja are back on stage together, because their voices together and chemistry has always been ❣ Thank you for also giving Anette a listen though! A lot of reactors skip her.

The one thing that Anette proved was that so many people must have wanted a different sound to Tarja as both of Annette's album sold so well. Although Marko was more involved so maybe people wanted more of him.

The studio version of the song sounds much better, and the video is unique and amusing. This isn't bad, but their voices aren't balanced right when they sing together. If you want to hear Annette perform a live song really well, check out Slow Love Slow at the Montreaux Jazz festival. A departure for Nightwish as it is a bluesy jazz piece but Annette really sounds great in that one. Marko also does a great job backing although he looks like he is about to fall asleep. 😂

I still think "Slow, Love, Slow" and "Scaretale" are Anette's best! She was good when she appeared with "Brother Firetribe" too! with another member of Nightwish! (Not Marko!)..... Marko and the band Delain made some great collabs too! Marko makes gold out of whatever he touches!

When you hear this song you should also Check NW's hardest Song ever "Master passion greed". This songs are to see in a row because of the Diskussion of their first singer (and co-founder) Tarja. Thank you for reacting to Anette too! The two albums they made with Anette are amazing! Probably, my favourite Nightwish song with Anette as the singer is the Escapist. There is only the studio version of it. And I do think that Anette's strengt was in studio. The way Anette got treated when she was in the band was wrong. Some people didn't respect her because she was not Tarja. She had a big shoes to fill. I am glad Anette didn't try to copy Tarja but she went on her own way, and she did well. But anyways, I hope you continue to reacting to all the eras of Nightwish. And Marko, what can I say about him :D Everybody loves him. Others have already recommended good songs to hear Marko more, like the Islander and While Your Lips Are Still Red. At some point, definitely check out something from his solo work too. Bye Bye Beautiful is a quite controversial song.... And after this tour, they never played it again live. It is about Tarja (although, I don't think that Tuomas has ever confirmed that).

I admit that I´m biased because I saw them on a festival in 2008 and was underwhelmed. so take my words with a grain of salt. The problem with Anette was first: she got a lot of hate from OG Nightwish fans, second: Nightwish had a pretty extensive discography, with all the songs written for Tarja, sometimes very hard for Anette to sing, but the fans wanted to hear their favourites third: she was simply not a "live singer", so it was sometimes a bit hit or miss with her. But to be fair there are other songs, that fit her better, Bye Bye Beautiful is together with The Poet And The Pendulum and Master Passion Greed one of three songs that convey the anger Tuomas had at that time.

In retrospective I still lift my hat. Chapeau Annette !!!! It takes a lot of courage to sing a song about your predecessor !!!!! And she made some beautifull songs too. Anette's the odd one out. There's no doubt that she was the least strong singer live, except when doing character voices as in _Scaretale,_ and arguably ballads. She also had the least stamina for touring. However, there's a particular laserlike quality to her voice which means it layers really well, and her studio performances really benefit from this - _Imaginaerum_ is probably my second-favourite Nightwish album, and it was the only one written specifically for her voice (the previous album had been mostly written and recorded before she'd even been hired). And to be honest, over an album length I find her easier to listen to than Tarja, even though I generally prefer Tarja on individual songs. Also, she was with Nightwish for 5 years, not that short a time (and Nightwish have changed some personnel every two albums so far). My absolute favourite Anette-era Nightwish song is _Meadows_ _of_ _Heaven,_ but there's no official music video or decent quality live recording.

Had there been no Floor maybe one would consider Annette good, only after listen to just about anything Floor sings, Annette can't even hold Floor's beer. They both sing the song "Slow, Love, Slow" which was written during Annette's time with the band. Floor covered it at her Amsterdam concert which can be found on her channel.

Floor will never sing this song because it is basically Tuomas throwing shade at Tarja and Floor is good friends with Tarja. Plus Tuomas has moved on from that time period which is why Poet will never be played live again and also why Master Passion Greed was never and will never be played live.

I think Anette sounded better when she was between 40 and 50 . Anette was a nurse. Marko can use his voice to anyone he sings with. Her and the guys had issues and thats when Floor came in. Tuomas said that Floor was his first pick before and after Anette. Before Anette he wanted Floor but she was with Revamp or After Forever her other bands

Nightwish had kind of casting for the new singer and iirc Tuomas said a while ago he hoped Floor would show up since they already toured with her while she was in After Forever but that never happened. 2012 the problems between the band and Annette boiled up and when she announced she planned to get pregnant the management contacted Floor and asked if she could step in to finish the tour eventually. The Denver debacle happened (not Annette's fault) and all came crashing down but gladly Floor took the leap.

Actually, it might be fun for you to listen to, not necessarily react to, the official video for this song. Much better mix. The song both references Tarja's exit from the band and the fact that they got a lot of flack for hiring Annette because of her looks, not her voice. The later is why they have models faking the playing on part of it. And, kudos to you for looking into all of the lead singers. They all play an important part in the history of the band.

The song alludes to Tarja and the fact that she didn't understand the reason for the breakup. The song was only played on this tour and then finally removed from the setlist. In comparison to Marko, you can clearly hear how poorly she separates the notes and that she generally lacks power. In the studio version, she does it better and you can understand better why she was chosen. At the audition, there was a singer who is now a well-known metal singer. Nightwish rejected her at the time because of her inexperience. She is also there when Anette is fired and at least became Nightwish's singer for one night: Amaranthe - Maximize (Masters of Rock 2019)

Anette Olzen to me is not given alot of love for her time with the band. I really became a fan when she took over for Tarja. Tarja really didn`t move me as her voice was to operatic for my taste. I was hesitant when I found out she was leaving but Floor is by far the greatest singer for the band and in my opinion the best in the world!! I`ve been obsessed with Nightwish since then and watch on of their concerts every Saturday night. Their are not many concerts available with Anette live and this was 2008 so the sound quality is not there. That said I thank Anette for her time with the band and listen to her solo music also

I have to admit that Bye Bye Beautiful is probably my least favorite Nightwish song. It is part of the break up trilogy on Dark Passion Play, the first album with Anette after they fired Tarja. The three songs are Poet and the Pendulum (Tuomas's deep depression after the Nightwish fans turned on him after firing Tarja), Bye Bye Beautiful (directed at Tarja), and Master Passion Greed (directed at her husband Marcelo). The last one is super heavy and the lyrics are filled with anger and aggression. It's a great insight to what the guys thought about her husband. Tarja also had her own song in response to Bye Bye Beautiful and Master Passion Greed called Enough, which I also enjoy. Master Passion Greed and Enough make for a great double reaction. Master Passion Greed was never played live (too easily tied to an actual person) and all three will never be played live again since Tuomas and the band have moved on from those drama filled times so long ago. Floor is also good friends with Tarja and has said she would never sing Bye Bye Beautiful given it's meaning. I wouldn't consider this live performance of Bye Bye Beautiful to be the best vehicle for evaluating Anette's voice. The music videos for Amaranth is probably the song the showcases her voice the best or the live performance of Slow Love Slow from Montreaux Jazz festival. One of my favorite Anette era Nightwish songs is The Crow, The Owl, and The Dove, kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6q8ZoSDm5lkms0si=CcD65asRYBzTQNYm The music video for it is a beautiful animated video that won a contest Nuclear Blast had for fans to submit music videos for the song. You may add Meadows of Heaven (studio version) to your list, if you are interested in more of Annette's vocals. This is the song I enjoy the most with her. But not really because of her vocals. There is an instrumental version out there that I like to listen to just as much. I appreciate Annette for keeping NIghtwish alive with two great albums, but she just did not fit well.

How did Anette end up in Nightwish? Short story long: the booting out of NW's 1st songster had been a long time coming. Things deteriorated rapidly after the Guadalajara incident in 2000 when Tarja was attacked/violated on stage and the guys just played on. They finished the concert and afterwards left her in the hands of a relative stranger who would become her personal manager and husband. Fast fwd to when Tarja had already given her notice when the "open letter" sped things up. After all the drama and publicity, Anette was the result of a remarkable "and now for something completely different" volte-face by Tuomas. Some of the best material he wrote is from this post-traumatic period though. The waiting was for a vocalist who could channel all of the raw emotions and take Nightwish to the next level as a band. Meanwhile the NW management planned tours that were bound to wreck their rather frail 2nd singer, while the band chose to still burden her poppy voice with Tarja-era classics. When she was unceremoniously dumped, her parting didn't even merit an open letter. Floor's arrival as the undisputed stage general not only meant a tremendous upgrade vocally, but also at the personal level. Nightwish acted as a band again. Already in the months leading up to that legendary night at Wacken, fan videos show the joy and camaraderie on stage. At Wacken the guys were overjoyed & clearly showing off their new girl. The rest is history.

The Tarja trolls tend to forget she had already quit the band before she got "booted". Her failing to live up to her end of the agreement resulted in Marko delivering his ultimatum: "Her or me!" She was fired because she was going anyway. And that "stranger" who rescued her? He was their Argentinian rep who was responsible for arranging security. Because he was a cheap b@stard, the "security" that night was a bunch of guys with zero security experience who were handed free tickets and security tee-shirts. That dude who rushed the stage and chased her should've been stopped by Cabuli's "security" but they were too busy watching the concert. The band played on because they were waiting for security to do their job. It's not a band's job to be their own security detail. They didn't know that Tarja's future husband/manager had cheaped out on the security so there was no one to stop the dude. It's almost like Cabuli had planned it.

That was actually one of Anettes better live performances and the song is made for her. Too bad the mix was bad as Anettes "backing vocals" overpower Marko. Floor is head and shoulders above others. Not least because she feels like a part of the band and performance where Tarja and Anette are more of a solo performers. There is a ton of Nightwish performances and songs to react to, but as the Phantom of the Opera seems to be a special song for you, you might want to check Nightwish with Floor and guest Henk Poort - the original dutch Fantom, perform it live at Amsterdam.

I hate this tune. It's just Tuomas dissing Tarja. Unnecessarily bitter and cruel - which is exactly how they very publicly got rid of her. They weren't that much better when they got rid of Anette either. Great band but not much use at dealing with women in their ranks. Floor, thankfully, seems to be faring much better though.
