It wasn't as bad as I was fearing! 😅 It was worse at the start of the video (2:18). At the top of the aqueduct I was very apprehensive initially, but always having a solid and tall wall on my left made everything much more bearable, it gave a great reference point to my peripheral vision. Not having peripheral reference points is what really triggers my vertigo, I tend to lose my balance to the left. 😅

Olá Jen! 😃 We have a lot of aqueducts in Portugal, because fresh water supply was a frequent problem throughout the history of the country. Don't worry, the head can't hurt you. 😅😅 Can't say the same about the doctor who takes care of its maintenance. He nonchalantly told me that he's convinced he will have lung cancer in the future, due to the formaldehyde he has inhaled (and the cigarettes he smokes 😐). Formaldehyde is *extremely* toxic, it completely destroys all life, including microorganisms, etc. Did you know that the dairy industry up until the early 20th century used to add formaldehyde to milk? 😶

Olá Linda! 🥝 Yes, something unusual this time 😁 Also, something I've always wanted to do, but thought I couldn't do it due to my vertigo. Now, with the channel, I finally had the motivation I needed. Temperatures are very enjoyable now and looks like next week will be the same, so all good! I'm still quite busy and may have to do some tough choices soon, such as lowering the number of videos I upload per month. The alternative would be to lower the quality of the videos (cut on the historical research, etc), but I'm not willing to do that, I'm too much of a perfectionist for that. 😅 There should be some very interesting (and requested) videos in August, if all goes well. 😊 Take care and have a great week!

This 52 km extension stone mason ( free waters aquedut ) was built to bring fresh water to lisbon by gravity from sintra mountains by tenacity of 3 kings died until project concluded. Still the tallest stone mason arches in the world , this remarkable monument is the biggest ever made in portugal in my opinion , impossible to built today because today politicians bla bla bla !!! I worked in 1966 in corner shop next to , memories !

E tenho de agradecer aos inscritos do canal por me darem essa motivação, era neles que pensava à medida que me aproximava do aqueduto! Na realidade nem foi assim tão difícil, se o caminho lá em cima fosse exposto do lado esquerdo assim como é do lado direito, possivelmente não teria conseguido. Mas com aquela "parede" alta e sólida sempre ao meu lado eu sentia-me relativamente seguro (eu caminhava junto à parede e esticava o braço, no vídeo não dá pra perceber 😄), as minhas vertigens estavam pouco ativas. Hello! 😊 Average income, well, it depends on many variables. The Portuguese economy is not as strong as most western european countries, so wages will be lower, although the cost of living is also lower. The Lisbon metropolitan area has the highest wages of the country. IT-related jobs are the ones that pay the most, I suppose, the ones with a lot of demand and not enough people with the required skills. Average monthly wage is above 1400 euros a month (paid 14 times a year, due to the Christmas and Summer bonus), but the average doesn't tell you much. It can go from 705 euros for low skilled work, which is the base minimum wage without any perks (again, 14 payments a year), to much higher wages. The economy post-Covid is doing extremely well, unemployment is lower than the EU average, although with the rise of inflation and interest rates due to the war in Ukraine, things will get worse before they get better... Not only in Lisbon or Portugal, but everywhere, unfortunately.

Is it possible to walk all the way to the woodland (or shrubland) to the north of the houses, where there seems to be a kind of miradouro? Also: is it possible to enter from that end, or is the museum the only entry point?

Hello Jan-Tore! 😀 Theoretically yes, I think you can walk all the way to the woodland (Monsanto Park), realistically you'd probably get in trouble. There are cameras along the way, and you are supposed to turn back at the point indicated. The museum is the only entry point.

In the 1970s the aqueduct was completely decommissioned, so basically there was no water inside the structure anymore. However, there are plans to get the aqueduct back in operation this year, contributing to the redundancy of the water supply network. It could be useful in the event of drought, fires, etc.
