Beautiful scenery. Looks like a great place to spend the morning fishing and the afternoon reading a good book while eating a salted trout grilling on a stick for lunch. If the water is cold enough, I'd bring a bottle of white to chill. - from Japan.

You do a great job of not spooking the fish. I don't think people realize how many more fish you can catch when the fish don't know you're there. That tiger trout you caught at 8:40 was amazing. It was 4 feet in front of you with barely moving water. Incredible! Great vid!!

I know that creek pretty well. Unfortunately those are not Bonneville cutthroat. Based on the drainage they should be Colorado River cutthroat but they're actually a Yellowstone hybrid that was stocked many years ago, so technically not native to that particular stream. Still a fun creek to fish and you can find some real hogs further upstream.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Yes, I found out afterward that this wasn't a native BCT drainage, but I figured they'd been stocked there anyway at some point. I've caught a lot of YCT, and they all look more golden/yellow than this. But I suppose that's where the hybrid part comes in. Thanks for sharing 👍

If I may add, Tenkara as practiced traditionally in Japan is with almost 100% wetflies. Even the stiff hackle kebari are fished wet. Why Wet primarily? Location, location, location. Japan has alot of fast flowing mountain streams. Lots of turbulance, lots of pocket water. The dry fly just wasn't practical in that environment at that time. Each fly design the Japanese have has a specific manipulation technique associated with it. Its a fascinating subject and learning the techniques has the potential of improving your catch rate exponentially.

@@WildBlueDiscovery you're welcome. Tenkara is more than what it is painted as here in the States. Back in 2011 when I first heard of it, I just continued to use "western style" flies with Tenkara. Dead drift was about It wasn't until I fished with Japanese trained anglers that I finally started to realize that divorcing the rod from the flies and the flies from the techniques was only hurting my own success. It's a whole system. I encourage you to try it again.

Really enjoy your videos. I usually don't offer advice, but I can't stand watching your technique for landing your fish. Either your line is too long or your stretch is too short. Gripping the line with your net hand is defeating the purpose of your flexible rod, which helps keep the hook anchored in the fish's mouth. Possibly stretching your arm and rod top way out behind you will allow a better reach. Thanks for your vlog, very enjoyable.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 5 жыл бұрын
Google "tenkara hand lining." It's part of tenkara. Thanks for watching 👍
@arictelian
@arictelian 5 жыл бұрын
He has a point though. If you ever get the chance to attend the Oni School near Salt Lake City, you will see Masami does not go for his net with his left hand until the line is under control and the fish is under control in his right hand. So, for instance, when the fish is close enough to sieze the line, you make one circle swinging motion with your left arm. It automatically catches the line. The right hand now comes in to take in more line, tips of the fingers only. This allows you to release if needs be, especially on bigger fish. Once the fish is in range, and your line is in your right hand, then you move to grab your net. This is the Japanese method. Cheers.

@@TenkaraAddict Thank you for keeping the location a secret. It makes it fun to try and figure it out for me and others. People need to get out and explore on their own.
