The Kiss the Girl song is not about forcing Eric on Ariel. She wants Eric to kiss him. He is totally withdrawn. He wants the girl with the voice. In this version, she apparently knows nothing about why she needs Eric to kiss her. They destroyed her autonomy. In the original classic, Ariel puckers up several time. She was about to jump on him before the eels attack

While I completely agree with you; I never really thought how this could be applied to Eric and not Ariel. Literally everyone pressuring him to kiss someone, lol.
@dustymcwari4468
@dustymcwari4468 Жыл бұрын
@@KyleALarkins the song is about how Sebastian is subliminally manipulating him into giving Ariel a chance and hurry up, because the guy was a legit gentleman, he had his heart belonged to someone else, and he would rather take his time get to know her better first And in the live action, while still shy, he's now the one making approaches towards a now oblivious Ariel because Ursula erased her memories, which doesn't work because she's being artificially manipulated to reject the kiss

To be honest the movie does have its upsides-Ariel and Eric are given a reason to connect more, and without the looming task of the kiss, Ariel can fall in love with Eric more organically instead of trying to make him fall for her bc of her goal to turn human? Idk, I just think there were some good bits abt this movie when it comes to Ariel and Eric’s chemistry. Also, I think the main reason they had her forget about the kiss is because the plot hole in the original movie was, “why couldn’t she just write down that she needs a kiss from Eric?” Or something like that. So either way one party wasn’t gonna be happy lol

@@ricecakedeer I would have had it in the contract that she's forbidden to tell him so when she tries to write it down, she gets the stabbing pain in her legs. It fixes the plot hole and also pays tribute to the book.

Hand drawn animation was the most magical aspect of those classic Disney films. If they want to remake, they should just stick with animation or a recording of the staged musical. This hyper-realistic animation move is disrespectful to the “magic” of Disney.

I just don't get how they think Kiss the Girl is forceful against Ariel. It's what SHE wants, and needs to stay human. Yet, oh noooooo, Eric might get metoo'd for it! Ugh, thanks for seeing this for me, Andy. Now I don't have to!

they added a trick by Ursula where Ariel is under a spell where she is unable to remember the importance of the kiss. context is a bit different and Ursula made it so Ariel could never succeed. which I doubt she would've in the original the way she kept trying to sabotage.

find it kinda cute because it turns into a scene where she wants to kiss him, but she's treating the situation normally where she is just too shy and nervous as it's her first kiss.

@zthetajulietta8184

@@LukeLovesRose She still loves and wants to kiss him, she doesn't remember it being tied to breaking the spell. it's a more organic scene + how she would behave in a normal date setting without the life-threatening stake. in the 89 version, she was trying to jump him because of the urgency of her limited time. I wouldn't say it's an ideal context for a first kiss and pretty stressful tbh. Even with that choice (that is heavily influenced by a third party) Ursula still would sabotage no matter what. She's rigged the game and won't let ariel have a fair shot. How much autonomy can a girl have anyway when a witch has only given her a short window to succeed and cuts out her tongue? (Han's version)

I tell you the why: the original character in the cartoon is white. And if you want an Oscar or no mimimi they have to put in black / asian / latino and more often lgbtq character. It's astounding that in the remake Ariel isn't a lesbian. Why? It's FORCED diversity. If they'd really wanted this diversity, they would write new stories to different ethnicities etc. Rather than coping, rewriting history or classics...

I viewed it at a Friday matinee & the movie was phenomenal. I watched it in a theater filled with mostly white and hispanic adults w/their children/grandkids - in a politically purple area. An older white gentleman of around 70 was seated beside me with his adult daughters and their young girls who laughed and sang quietly throughout the film. At the end everyone applauded. It was beautifully executed. I thought about how many reactors lied their asses off and what motivated them to do so. ;)

The only time the live action remakes were any good was when they had original storylines, like Maleficent. They remade my favorite, Beauty and the Beast, and even Emma Watson couldn’t save it. Not creating original content with black characters, Mexicans, Asian characters, etc. Not creating new stories or cartoons with original plots, n good cgi. Bad cgi, bad songs, and taking away from the original story plot. Also treating the black consumers like we are stupid. Plot black Ariel goes up to the surface and doesn't need a man. That is racism by Disney. Princess n the Frog by Disney. Good movie. Yet Titainna works her butt off while her white friend doesn't. Also her partner is portrayed as a lazy black man..Disney racist stereotypes in that movie as well that are not being talked about. Lots of interesting different people in the world and Disney is Euro centric. Need more variety of new material for audiences. The reason why Jodi's 'Part of Your World' was so emotional and reacting was because of the work of Howard Ashman. He didn't want Jodi to sing it in a broadway style and taught her to act sing over belting. He wanted the audience to *feel* Ariel's struggles and desires. It was all done with full intention, and a lot of people seem to miss that completely when comparing the different verisons of the song. I still want to check it out since Ariel meant so much to me as a kid (this movie and the bonus feature behind the scenes on the dvd *is* the reason I started to do art. I always drew Ariel), but I was worried it was just copy and paste in live action. That's really disappointing, but not surprising.

Personally, I don't care for the little growl she did in "Part of Your World," on the word "free." ("Wandering free" grrr) That was the only nails-on-a-chalkboard part for me. The rest of the song is good but that one note hurt my ears. Also, I wish she could have put more longing emotion into the line "When's it my turn." The note was over too quickly on "turn." It's my favorite line of the song and pretty much the mantra of my life, when's it my turn? Benson draws that note out more and really makes you feel her frustration and grief. It just felt more genuine, the original. But then, I grew up with the animated so I have a soft spot for it. Still, it's sad when a cartoon feels more authentic than a live action.

That was easily the worst one. Whoever produced and mixed that movie should be fired. There is ALWAYS significant autotune and compression used in music these days. Especially modern disney soundtracks. Anyone who knows music production knows that. But Belle’s repise alone was so poorly over-produced, that one of her words clips! They “fix” it on the soundtrack, but it is still very much there in the movie. That movie’s music was not only horrendously produced, but horrendously cast, and horrendously sung (with the exception of Luke Evans who was still a poor choice for Gaston given the macho baritone Richard White had). Do you ACTUALLY think this is proper “representation” for POC? Google token representation and see what pops up. This right here is the problem and it’s hypocritical and discriminatory in itself regarding TLM. You’re the same people who will defend this with your ENTIRE existence, yet somehow say it “has nothing to do about her skin color and that people are ONLY focusing on that” when in reality YOU’RE the ones OBSESSED with her appearance and creepily bragging that a black girl beat out a white girl and that she’s so much BETTER than the original. It’s freaking CRINGEY and an exact example of racism. (You are judging, taunting, ridiculing and rejecting a different race while simultaneously getting enjoyment out of it.) BUT I guess the ONLY people that can emit racism is ANY other race EXCEPT yourselves. 😂 You don’t care about TLM, you ONLY care because they unfortunately changed her to appease you. If they would’ve left her alone, you wouldn’t even BE in this comment section let alone CARE about this whatsoever. This is so FAKE, and I hate what Disney has done.

This one in particular allowed the wokeness to market it to a certain demographic...it was the main focus of the marketing...and the introduction of Halle Bailey into acting.They needed someone whos an actress who can sing to connect with the songs. This was used as her acting debut and to get attentiom for The Color Purple...another remake....Oprah is behind this. Enough said.

They keep making these half baked remakes and the only thing it is doing is ruining my nostalgia for the originals. Flounder was my favourite character and as soon as I saw the movie poster for him I was out. They had the same problem with The Lion King remake, they lost all emotion in the characters with the lack of facial expressions. The absolutely beautiful animation in the originals does not translate to hyper realistic animation.

@@AP-vo2mp my point is that right now. In todays day in age. Most directors are casting due to the “need for diversity”. Emma Watson looked the part for Belle. She has a good voice but majority of her songs as Belle were HEAVILY auto-tuned. Naomi Scott as Jasmine was okay but she didn’t get a chance to show us shes a strong woman. No the writers needed to tell us she’s a strong woman. Linda Larkin had the sassy tone which we all loved and made us feel that she really wasn’t “a prize to he won”. All the times I hear her talking in the trailers looks like she is trying too hard to impersonating something but can't. And I've heard her sing so I know she has a very pretty voice but just the overall feel doesn't work. Now I'm I would kill to see The Lion King on Broadway. I've seen bits of that and would absolutely love to see that because I was a former for many many years and a dancer so it just enthralled me. FISRT OFF, obviously people will compare it to the BELOVED original (“old”😂) version because it is, AFTER ALL, the live action version of it. SECOND, just because someone wants to see their number one favorite Disney princess come to life as she was ORIGINALLY DEPICTED does NOT mean someone is “racist.” It’s extremely apparent that you have ZERO care or knowledge about TLM, or you wouldn’t have made this inappropriate and disrespectful comment. Do you ACTUALLY think this is a proper and respectful form of “representation?” This is the BARE MINIMUM and here you are sheepishly applauding them like they expected. 😉 YOU’RE the one who needs to grow some balls and admit that you’re being used and laughed at by a company who thinks you’re an idiot for falling for this “politically correct” BS. They are using skin color as the main selling point for this movie. They don’t care about YOU, or anyone for that matter. They care about meeting quotas and making profits. It’s funny how all they simply had to do was a little swaparoo, and people like you will literally go so far as to APPLAUD and DEFEND this with your entire existence. It’s hilarious how the same people try and say this “has nothing to do with skin color” when in reality you would’ve never even cared about TLM if they didn’t (unfortunately) race swap an ICONIC, extremely ESTABLISHED character known for over 30 years. You want to call me racist? I couldn’t care less because I know that’s the only thing people can come up with, trying to deflect the actual truth. Them promoting the ILLUSION of real inclusion, is NOT real inclusion. Read that again. Maybe an extra time for you. Some know better and either choose to ignore it, or they’re just completely oblivious to how unscrupulous entertainment companies operate.😔 The SAME people also love to complain when another character is changed. Like that girl in Moana not being “DARK ENOUGH!” The DOUBLE STANDARDS are wild. This push and pull struggle will NEVER end if we keep letting companies purposely create racial controversy. It’s sad most who are bending over backwards for this, don’t seem to care about the OG film. I’ve seen people GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to BASH it and the FANS. They taunt that “THEIR” black Ariel is BETTER, and how no one cares about the “old” Ariel because she’s “boring and brainless!” 👎 ALSO somehow they’ve claimed this movie as their own. I saw a comment stating that someone’s opinion wasn’t “valid” because they were white! WTF? HOW is that helping anything? That reminds me of spiteful kids who bully others to make themselves feel better. Statements like that are SO ironically discriminatory, problematic, and classless, further DEEPENING open wounds. Here’s a little life lesson for you, child: Before impulsively speaking or typing something, try to think even a TINY little bit (if that’s even possible) before making false accusations and offensive statements about the TRUE, LONGTIME, LOYAL fans. OR, don’t and be prepared to get put in your place. Your choice. 🤣 Toodles 👋🏼

You basically said everything I thought when I saw the trailer, but you were kinder about it. You skirted around the Halle Bailey issue when it comes to her acting. I could tell from the trailer that she's not a good enough actress. Ariel is a very expressive role. She conveys a lot with her eyes as well as her words, tone and actions. Much like Johnny in Edward Scissorhands, you need someone that can act from head to toe to convey all the complex emotions of the character. Halle is new to acting. She is not seasoned enough and does not have enough raw talent to pull of this role. The CGI doesn't help though. It dilutes any emotion on the actor's faces. The actress that plays Ariel needs to have a lot of life inside her eyes. Her eyes should light up with excitement, confusion, wonderment, etc. Halle has dead eyes, as in she doesn't know how to act with her eyes. There's no emotion. I also think Disney should've done a colorblind casting to find the best actress for the part instead of insisting on a Black actress from the start. Everything else you said about everyone else, including the sea animals was right on.

Yes about Jodis version of Part of That World! It has all the emotions in it and it is acted perfectly and connects you to her character. I saw a video talking about the making of the original. The way Jodi and others talk about Howard and how he made that movie brought tears. AND Thank you for putting Scuttle Butt in it's place. What a horror show.

I also hate that they included the stupid scene of her wincing when Eric guesses her name to be Catherine which in the context of also guessing Diana was clearly a dig at Princess Catherine and I have zero doubt in my mind that Megain somehow was able to sneak that into the movie to make herself look better. It also just made no sense. The original name she winced at was Mildred, which made more sense because for Americans it is a very high-brow, old-fashioned, British name that they historically would have steered away from, whereas C/Katherine/C/Kate is still a popular name everywhere so again, it made no sense.

To say it’s “unnecessary” to make this movie is ridiculous. No movie is necessary to make. And any fan of The Little Mermaid has always wanted this film to be brought to real life. And to say “there’s nothing new” is crazy! There’s an entire hour of new material that adds to the story. You seem to just want to dislike it for personal reasons.

Wasn't planning on seeing it but after this and the reported dig at Princess Catherine I'm 100% not going to see it. It's sad, what Disney has become. Nothing but cash grabs and no magic. Walt would be so disappointed.

Everyone keeps saying that the race swapping is not an issue, but in fact it is whether we are conscious of it or not. I don’t mean that there cant be a black mermaid, but when you change a beloved characters race just to prove a point, assume it will be the selling point of the movie AND call it the best version of that character then that’s where the problem is.

We don’t care, Halle is the perfect Ariel and that’s that. Why use a Jamaican crab and tropical fish and put a white mermaid in the first place? That to me don’t make sense ☺️ also when Angelina jolie and many others were playing blacks please have the same energy. Please let these little black girls enjoy their black ariel in peace, times are changing be a part or stay mad 🤬🤬🤬😂

They needed to cast theatrically trained people not just people who can sing. It’s a musical the story is told in song. I will not be wasting my money on this.

The movie is much longer. There are mainly regular acting parts. It doesn't bounce from one song to the next like a musical.
