It all makes so much sense now. I went to see the film yesterday. The film was great, but I was wondering why Arielle's costumes reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. Now it makes sense, same costume designer. The dresses aren't ugly, but in the movie these don't stand out from the other cast. I also find that the first and last dresses, if you take a quick look hardly differ, just the colour. Same styles. I would have expected more, from the last dress. The story has so much scope as a mermaid, you could interpret the costumes even deeper. Halle is so beautiful, more colour would have made her stand out even more.It would be great if, with the last dress, you saw influences from her past as a mermaid.

I absolutely love ariels tail. Its so majestic and long and beautiful. I know that the tail is most likely cgi, but it is still absolutely beautiful.

I think we can all agree that this costumes… are not exactly good. Colleen is a fantastic designer that’s a fact and The Little Mermaid was a great opportunity for her to explode the potential in every gown, armor and detail but the lack of the fantasy element is obvious and that completely affects the “magical” experience for the audience. (Btw, the texture of king Triton's armor looks nice tho)

I also REALLY the armor, texture and color wise. These costumes were a bit underwhelming, but that's because I wanted to see more. Apparently, *SPOILER* Ariel has A LOT of changes including the pink ball gown for the dinner scene, a teal/mint ball gown for a ball scene, the seafoam dress, a wedding dress and a honeymoon dress, nightgown, the kiss the girl dress and possibly more. So, let's just hope they REALLY want to keep the surprise and that at least the ball gowns, wedding dress and maybe seafoam dress are spectacular. Although, we will have wait and see cause these costumes' looks seem to be one of the biggest secrets around this movie 😅 A bit frustrating honestly... I really would like to see at least ONE of the more spectacular dresses. Oh, well... 🤷🏽

simple, fresh and yet VERY COMFORTABLE for people living near by the sea where it's probably very hot during the day im very excited abt this movie (and i really love the simplicity in dresses, no need to run for super heavy and unnecessary details when its the acting that does it)

I absolutely love the costume design for the new film! Especially giving Ursula long sleeves, it made her look much more sophisticated. The dark purple party dress Vanessa wore is amazing, too. Loved it more than the original’s wedding dress. Prince Eric’s clothing made him look so masculine and powerful, too

Verónica’s dress is great. Ariel’s tail is beautiful. The queen’s outfit is great. The King’s armor is fantastic. But with so much thought that went behind these costumes why did Ariel‘s dresses fall so short? She’s already short but those simple dresses made her look shorter and that sandal was awful why not a simple, black ballet shoes like the anime. The focus was too much on realism that they ended up putting her in only 2 boring dresses. That pink headband was too big and didn’t match the dress. Why not give her the blue bow? 😢 it just seems like all their time was spent on designing the underwater looks and the above water looks were after thoughts😩 don’t get me started on the iconic sparkling dress that never made an appearance😢 with so much CGI used you’d think they’d do one for her coming out of the water 😮‍💨 The movie has been made and released so I guess I’m just venting cuz there’s nothing to be done about it now.

I agree, I support live action and so I have faith in it, but I can't with these outfits, Halle is beautiful with a body that can wear any dress and they send her dressed worse than a maid, no, this is not the case, Halle deserved a well-made outfit, they are all horrible They made me the wedding dress with green details and the veil if you use another cover on your head for the wedding this movie is definitely not achieved and I say it with great pain

ok with all due respect... and knowing that this lady is a very talented professional, i found Ariels costume (the one she wears above the sea) so underwellmed , like, she looks shorter , the legth of it , like, i dont know... it doesnt look great.

But I don't think it really makes sense to have a long dress to be active & to explore in, especially in an area/location that gets VERY warm and humid (Caribbean/Mediterranean...it's meant to be a fictional combination of both regions). It's also more historically accurate. I feel like a longer dress wouldn't be as practically. I mean, it's one thing to depict it in a cartoon, but irl it would be more difficult to maneuver around, ride carriages and do whatever else in all day. That's my take on it. I think it's pretty, yet simple and practical for an adventure dress. I actually like that it's not over-the-top because then her full-length more detailed and elaborate ball gowns and pink lunch dress can stand out more in comparison. And those are dresses where functionality isn't necessary, she just has to stand there or dance around a look beautiful, like princess eye-candy.

@@angelabby2379 Doesn't really matter, the clothing was inspired by real historically accurate fashion (of the real life area & location) along with elements of fantasy and the ocean according to the costume designer. 2 things can be true at once: part of the story is fantasy and part of it was heavily inspired by history and reality, as far as the setting, clothing, food, music, trade/exports etc. The same as other fantasy movies like Narnia, Harry Potter, Peter Pan etc. all have real life references alongside fantasy and magic. Only, this movies blends the two worlds instead having them be separated, to make something new but very familiar. And it's easier to catch if you know what to look for. Plus, there's just obvious things like practicality and such, like what makes the most sense for the story/characters even if not 100% historically accurate or realistic.

The pink and green dresses are confirmed, both are in the movie, let's hope this lady has done a good job with those dresses, because not even a servant is dressed in the outfits that have been revealed. My hopes are in these two dresses, the wedding one, I definitely like They killed this very bad girl with Halle's great body that any dress can wear is incredible, the little creativity of the person in charge of her wardrobe, Halle, is the protagonist who should receive the best outfits and so far Vanessa's turns everyone who Ariel has been revealed, some remain to be seen of course, but I do not expect anything anymore, this lady disappointed me. I imagined Halle all beautiful with gigantic dresses, but she dressed her in the worst possible way, more than her fairy godmother seems like her worst enemy, it is clear that she hates to halle with motives poor girl

So I guess from left to right it's Ariel's dinner wear, her casual outfit later.(just minus the accessories), king Triton's armor. And Ursula's dress when she's Human. I can understand that some say that the dresses are plain and one note. Which... Yeah, they are... On their own. But for the benefit of the doubt. Like I said with the second dress. They don't have the accessories. It's possible that they will have accessories on them. Although I will say... Considering they ware supposed to be dress as commoners...
