I think it is kinda different. Ariel was an explorer and adventurer. Melody has sea in blood, it is her nature as much as being human. She was ordered to shut down something which was a psrt of her already. I would not call her missing sea a dream.

What I like about this song is that it’s Melody telling how much she enjoys being a mermaid and how much she was showing it during the seen. A lot of times in fairy tale movies, humans are freaked out when shape-shifted but not Melody, she liked having her tail from the minute she got it and I think she looks pretty and cute as a mermaid. Also, how many around the world dream of being real mermaids? That’s what I also like about this movie, it’s about what Ariel may have not first realized. She wanted legs but there are some who want a tail like hers.

Like tbh, I just watched the movie last night. It's a decent movie with a pretty good start but it does have some flaws. However, I feel like this movie has a bad rap due to being a DTD movie(low quality). Yet despite some animation gripes, when the movie shines, IT SHINES! It may not be Amazing but it does have effort. I see effort. I just wished it focused on Melody and Ariel's relatioship to one and another.

Ariel was reprimanded by her father for wanting to become a human while Melody was reprimanded by her own mother for loving the sea. I have a feeling that when Ariel scolded Melody for sneaking under the wall to go out to the sea, it may have somehow come to her mind of what she's been through when she was a teenager herself.

Twenty-one years since I first rented the video and I STILL love Melody, my animated Nancy Thompson:) Now SHE'S The Little Mermaid, her great character conflict not knowing why she doesn't feel right as a human and why the sea calls to her and her conflict with Ariel who's just doing her best to protect her--this movie is A Nightmare on Elm Street, seriously! Morgana's a good villain too, VERY Freddy, but they dropped the ball not focusing MORE on Melody (AND LESS ON THE PLETHORA OF POINTLESS ANNOYING TALKING ANIMALS) and HOW she screws up as a princess and can't fit in with other kids, plus she should've been growing up having nightmares of Morgana trying to kidnap her so she has all kinds of questions and just wants answers! All leading up to her climbing that ice mountain to get the trident, stabbing Morgana in the tentacle so she can throw it to Triton, and then KNOCKING DOWN A WALL TO UNITE KINGDOMS so the two halves of who she is can live together:):)
