Hi Dale, thanks for the video. I was just looking at various Liturgy of the Word or Divine Offices to purchase and I guess your video sealed it for me. clicked "purchase" on Amazon and one is one the way, due 4/4/24. Hang in there; lots of us are sad about what is happening in the Church, but we musn't despair. We must stay close to Christ and His Mother and remain faithful to the Church despite evil men who are trying to destroy it; which, BTW, they NEVER will. Peace.

Beautiful little office book. Reminded me of my "Baltimore" Catechism when I was a child.... so many nice Office books.... so little time.. For now, I've settled into the Anglican Office Book, Second Edition... much time invested in how it works, but have settled in . . . this could be a nice backup.

I’ve become sort of a Breviary junkie - may have to pick this up … but for now my go to is the Anthologion. You’ve also inspired me to find my copy of “The Stripping of the Altars” as seen on your Kindle. Glad you are doing well Dale! My vote is for St Herman’s church - but I’m biased - St Herman is my patron!

I had actually meant to say something about the Duffy book but forgot, so I just teased it with a link. And yes, St. Herman is delightful. Spoiler: I don't think I want/need to do anything all official and hook up legally with the OCA in order to worship with the beautiful folk at St. Herman's.

Thanks for the book review! It looks like one I will consider for my devotional books. I seem to have found what I want with the second edition of the Anglican Office Book. But, the Little Office of Baltimore looks like a book I would have a use for at times.

Lance, now Deacon Lance, has done a really bang-up beautiful job with the AOB, but there is an inheritant problem woith any prayerbook based on Cranmer's Morning and Evening Prayer pattern of the BCP, and that is that in the BCP those two officwes are designed to be sufficient. Therefore any additional offices are reptitious. It also means that those two offices will be rather long, as Cranmer crammed so much scripture reading into them. The Little Office of Baltimore doesn't have those restraints.

"Stir Up" encourages great numbers of good Anglicans to stir up some figgy pudding; it's superior to Quicken for that reason alone.

Any community would be blessed to have you. I don't think mine (Eastern Orthodox) would make you leave your tin can too much, especially since we have a whole peninsula of (very old) tin cans. I meandered out of Roman Catholicism largely because, it seemed to me, the legal forms of Catholicism tended just to aggrandize one bishop's supremacy, while the structure of Orthodoxy, well, tended to undermine any one bishop organizing anything, much less the whole church. We need a lot to get us all together, and that, paradoxically, tends to leave us free to safely ignore global goings-on. Sadly, many do not take advantage of that. Personally, I love little books like the one you are holding, because, not being official, I can use them as launching-pads for prayer rather than mandatory formulae that can puff one up. (My contrary self: "Behold Clayton the Roman OFFICE-sayer! Be glad that you are not like other men, who say lesser (or little) offices." Or worse, "How COULD you skip Prime/First Hour yesterday, you terrible, gyrovague, backsliding Benedictine Oblate!")

Better than LAP Common Prayer or the Saint Ambrose Prayer Book?

Very different. Just the materials for the offices, with a big chunk of psalms arranged by a sort of Percival's 'what are they for?' scheme. The St. Ambrose Book, oddly enough, is much more devoted to the BVM than the Baltimore book.

It was a conversation with a priest that turned me off from the church to be honest. The legalese was part of it; you have to do 'xyz' and make your family do it to, if you want to be a Catholic, and the refrain he kept coming back to (sort of a softcore hellfire sermon), that there was no salvation outside the church. What he didn't know was that I'm quite aware of brainwashing techniques, so that just caused me to back off mentally. What I really remember though is a comment of his when discussing the pre-vatican 2 liturgy, I mentioned that some of the more conservative elements of the church made me a bit uncomfortable. His comment was: "the mass we love with the people we hate", and I realised that he was part of the problem. I do like the old liturgy and can see why people go to it for the comfort of tradition and the company of others, there's just too much grit in that particular ointment for me.
