Ok, so I wanted to make a Game for some time now, and I think this music gave me inspiration for a game concept: Project Hell: (CONCEPT, SUBJECT TO CHANGE) • You are a Scientist in a dystopian future who is developing a machine, which gives you the ability to travel between Dimensions. After a successful attempt you decide to go once again, but your machine malfunctions and teleports you to hell. After a quick inspection of your surroundings, you attempt to go back, but your machine is broken beyond repair. • Demons find you and knock you unconscious and imprison you. Inside the cell is a roughed up angel, who was on mission to meet Satan, to give him a message from God, but the Demons thought he was a trespasser and beat him up and threw him in this cell. He tells you that the only way out is a small opening to the real world, which is on the other side of the valley where your prison is located. You and the angel decide to escape, but the angel accidentally alerted a guard and you have to fight yourself by using your hands and knifes and batons you looted from the Guards. You get to the Wardens office, where you are met by the big and muscular Demon-warden (your first Boss battle). •After you kill the warden, you take his keys and you decide to take his dual Wakizashi (a Japanese sword) and escape the prison, running down the huge valley, but the angel has been caught by a Demon, and the Demon smashes the angels head against a nearby stone, killing him. •You escape and are forced to go on alone to escape hell. This section is a mix between killing Demons with the Wakizashi and other close quarter weapons, Boss Battles and a healthy dose of Deathstep. Run, fight, survive. I want to make the killing as satisfying as possible by mixing in rigid body physics and the new collision physics from UE4 on the characters, to make the gore and bloodshed as true to life as possible. Wherever you stab the Demons, there should come out blood. When you slice a particular spot on the body of the Demon, you can dismember them. No matter if Arms, Fingers Legs, Torso, Head. I want to make this Game with semi-realistic by using Quixels Library of Megascans. Other objects will be bought as "placeholders" and will be changed by the time the game's release. No corners cut here. •Satan has heard about you and is waiting personally at the exit from hell. You see the very bright light reflecting on the dark, hot environment of hell. This Boss Battle should be the most challenging from the whole Game. It should be a mix between close quarter attacks, "flaming arrow and Bow" attacks, and evading Satan's attacks. After you defeat Satan (there will be in the end more than one ending) you enter the light and find yourself back in the Real world, and you have won the game. This Development will take somewhere between 5 to 7 years to make and I will be charging somewhere in the Indie price range. If you want to follow the development of this project, than idk, look up my channel, I will definitely post one or two videos about it.

Pls read the whole thing, I really think it'll help. YOOOO!!! THIS IS AWESOME! Just change a couple of stuff that doesn't make any sense, like in the beginning how dafuq did the scientist manage to kill a demon and why does it have a fricking *Japanese* sword? Also, if you want to make the game fun and interesting throughout, first of all, don't use hitscanning enemies because we gamers call that "Fake Difficulty", use projectile based enemies because that takes way more skill and is "actual difficulty". Second, you want variety, good spawn points, and balanced damage for the enemies, like in DOOM, Quake, Unreal, Blood, Half Life etc., all the greats. Third, well placed ammo packs, medkits etc., unless you're gonna put in regenerating health and ammo drops from enemies. Just make sure your game has it's own feel, you know, unique art style, unique weapons, enemies, story, etc. As for the levels, you want there to be as many and as long as necessary, you don't wanna have it drag on for too long or have it too short, take as long as needed to design the whole structure of each individual level. It's okay for a level to feel a little bit like another one in the game, just don't have too many and don't copy-paste shit, we gamers hate repetition, love variety yet combined with simplicity yet challenging. For the weapons you want to keep everything balanced and varied as well, each with their own unique trait and advantage. For example, it would help if certain weapons only worked on, or are more effective on certain enemies, and creative stuff like that. Oh! Also have good pacing for the levels, like, have the first level for example, only give the player a melee weapon at the start but put a pistol, perhaps, somewhere in the level and make sure the player WILL come across it. And don't throw all the enemy types at the player in the beginning either, just like in the weapons. Slowly immerse and teach the player about the world they're in as you slowly ramp up the difficulty level by level to make sure player gets the gist of the game, understands it's language, and therefore plays the game as it's meant to be. Make sure you keep open-endedness plentiful though, so the player has room to breathe, don't force the player's hand. Also, hardcore players hate hand-holding so put in an option to disable hints and tips. I didn't say tutorial because the best games teach the player as they play the game, an "invisible" tutorial, if you will. Like in Half Life, the game taught the player how to play the game by using a trick called "environmental story-telling". Environmental story-telling goes for the actual story too. Put something in a level that will pique the player's interest while having it tell the player what they need to know about the game's universe. That goes for level design too, make sure the levels coincides with the story and the universe and actually makes sense IN said universe. Make sure everything connects and adds up, ya know? Now, gameplay. For a game to be fun, the player actually has to play the game and have fun doing so. Put the player in control, don't have everything run itself, that's called "auto-pilot mode", and nobody likes that. Take a look at the new Call of Duty games for reference. No longer a game, just a glorified movie. Not having unskippable cutscenes every goddamned millisecond would help, especially long ones. This is a game, remember that, the player should be interacting with it, not just staring at the screen. Now that's over with, pick what kind of playstyle you want for your game. You want fast paced and reflex dependent, like DOOM? Or do you want it to be more tactical, timed, thought-out, like Dark Souls. And other types of playstyles. Design the game mechanics according to what you chose so that it plays well, and keep things dynamic, fluid. That's where the control-scheme comes in. Obviously, the move keys are WASD, fire is LMB(left mouse button), RMB(right mouse button) for weapon sights, if you're gonna add them in, etc. You know all this stuff. If you're gonna have extra movement mechanics, make sure the ones you can automate ARE. Like jumping while holding the W key and looking towards a ledge mantles you up automatically, stuff like that. If you've played TitanFall 2 you'd understand. Keep the keys that are crucial to live combat close to the movement keys and easy to remember and press. If you run out of keys to use, check if you can reuse certain keys for multiple actions depending on multiple circumstances. And now, balance. I think you already know most of what I mean. If you've played any of the Borderlands games you'd understand. The combat there is HORRIBLY unbalanced. Enemies cause too much damage, no matter if you're on the same level. The player can't do shit against them even though them hitting the player causes a fuck-ton of knockback. Now when the player is on max level, most enemies don't even damage you anymore and they go down in a single hit. All because of one word, UNBALANCE! The level-scaling doesn't help either. You can't have that shit if you want to make a great game. Lastly, the point of view. Whether the player sees the protagonist or not will affect how the player perceives said protagonist. Visual Presentation matters. Ex: If a game is in third-person, the player will be more attached to the protagonist. You can mix both first and third-person or have it as a setting in the options menu. A game's protagonist/s can have a voice or not, up to you, but if they do, you're gonna need a well developed character personality. If they are silent, ex: DOOM Guy, Gordon Freeman, etc., you still have to make it clear why they do what they do. And now, the backbone of any game, the story. First of all, create a title that fits, makes sense, intriguing, and as concise as possible Now, to create an interesting story, first of all have everything decided before you write the plot. Where it's gonna be, how it's gonna be, why it's gonna be, etc. That is not the plot just yet. The where means the universe: Hell, how: the logical reasoning and rules of said universe: *HOW* are there angels and demons, why: the motivation to keep playing the game, a good reason, a gripping, addicting story: *WHY* am I killing these demons, *WHY* am I going here, *WHY* do I have to kill Satan. Of course the third and last one has to be something personal, preferably something relatable to the player. This is so that the player feels an attachment to the protagonist. Ah! The protagonist. You can either make Him/Her, gender matters too, and don't worry about the femi-nazis coming after you and create your character as who you think they should be, and what they can and can't do. No single gender can do exactly what every other one can. Don't worry about the SJW's/Liberals either. Just create a character that just so happens to be female or black but still makes sense for them to be. No one likes a forced aspect. Now it's up to you whether you're gonna go with the "no npcs action-packed" approach or the "yes npcs crucial to plot and story-packed" approach. You can blend the two a little bit if you wan't, just remember: Balance. And don't forget the whole purpose of your choices, the *WHY*. It's also up to you whether there's player-npc interaction or not, just choose whichever makes sense to you. Now, the plot. This is where it get's way more complicated. I highly suggest getting any of your friends, who you think can help, in on this game of yours. Remember: 2 minds are stronger than one. Coordinate well, setup a proper Command Structure, figure out who does what and stick to it. Distribute the workload where it makes sense. Right, back to the plot. You should take notes with the entire team, not just for the plot, but for everything else as well. Listen to each other, speak freely about your ideas and keep an open-mind. For the plot you have to keep things engaging and the player engaged. You can do this by writing a plot that appeals to a certain demographic. Remember: you can't make EVERYONE happy. Once you've picked your target audience start writing and remember the *WHERE*,*HOW*,*WHY* rule. Make a story that's meaningful, something that leads to somewhere. Also, your characters should have distinct, unique personalities, desirable and undesirable traits, flaws and motivations. Remember: No one is perfect. Everyone should have a reason for being there, so things keep making sense. Early on, you should decide how a character is. What they are, how they are, what they look like, what they sound like, their attitude, and most importantly, the *WHY* of it all. A rich backstory for the important ones that affect the story also helps. Just find a way to ease the player into getting to know these characters and get the player to care about them in the first place, to do that you need to either make a character so likable to your chosen demographic, or have them so hated by chosen demographic that the player actually LIKES that a character is so bad. You should also have a clear-cut enemy, a.k.a. the antagonist. It could be multiple antagonists, or even a generalized one, like: The Nazis. Even your antagonist/s need a well developed character and a clear motivation. Back to the protagonist, they shouldn't just be in the background witnessing everything happening around them, take the Far Cry series for reference. Everything happening should be one of the results of the protagonist or antagonist/s actions, the occasional plot-crucial npc as well. You can have more than one protagonist in certain circumstances. Lastly, maintain originality. And good luck. Side Note: If you could optimize the game well and keep the general storage device space occupation low that would be great. No one likes a terribly optimized and overly large game. Sorry if it took too long to read and didn't help or wasted your time.

@@ther_ternum6712 I overflew your comment and I have some points to put in: (If I find something I want to make a statement on, I will put it in as a edit. That was too much to read in a single sitting (◠‿◕)) • This is first things first a concept which I thought for only 30 minutes and wrote down whatever I had in mind. Now obviously there will be some things which don't make any sense at all, but I am constantly working on the story of the game (while still going to university). I think it will still take up to two weeks to finish the story for this (which I find an appropriate time for a Game with an estimated development span of over 5 years). •About the title: "Project Hell" is only the project name or shall we say "placeholder" for the actual title. Once I have a solid story and game mechanics I want to put in, I will think for an appropriate title. • About the "fake difficulty": You are right, projectile based enemies like for example Archers with flaming arrows will require more skill too take them down. I was thinking, that if I should (and I definitely should) create different enemy classes, and each class will be harder to take down than the last one. I was also thinking about putting in "some" long range projectile based like if you have enemy's far away, you could be able to pick up an bow or some other long range weapon (I want to avoid putting in any modern or "fantasy weapons" shall we say •About Optimization and Storage: I want to make a game with breathtaking visuals and somewhat good enough graphics, that's why I have signed up for Services like Quixel Megascans and similar Services (this will be an UE4 based project, I find it way easier to learn than Unity). I cannot promise you or anyone how big the File size will be, but I can say with confidence that it will be requiring less space than the new Call of Duty ;) What I can say about optimization is that I fear that I will end up with a frame rate comparable to yanderade simulator, that's my biggest fear. I have ordered some books about Optimization (and about game Dev in General, Because this is my third project that will be released to the public) of the code so that I can Optimize it to the best of my ability.

@@notmyzticV Oh shiz! Sorry, I didn't know you still go to university. Hope my advice helps a bit! Also some things I forgot to mention: 1.Have something unique, interesting, and fun in your game that no other has (pretty difficult, I know, but it'll help the game go far) 2.The multiplayer side of gaming, I have no experience in, so I can't tell you much about it but here are some good channels about gaming and stuff, if you don't already know them: kzbin.info/door/7WDD6yHgzdqijHluCi1z-Q kzbin.info/door/KlUrYO3i9MDlL45Ia6j5EA kzbin.info/door/o_IB5145EVNcf8hw1Kku7w kzbin.info/door/hI0q9a-ZcbZh7dAu_-J-hg And one about tech, just in case: kzbin.info/door/XuqSBlHAE6Xw-yeJA0Tunw 3.ABSOLUTELY. NO. MICROTRANSACTIONS! Unless you're adding in multiplayer and it's cosmetic items. 🤗
@notmyzticV
@notmyzticV 4 жыл бұрын
@@ther_ternum6712 HELL NO, obviously no microtransactions. I can promise you, no additional charges except for the game's price. About multiplayer, I myself have never experienced with multiplayer either, but I think it would be nice if I would add after the game's release an "multiplayer update" (1-2 months after the release, just as things start to die down) where people (from 2 to 20) can fight in a small Arena. There will be up to 10 rounds. Each round has an time limit of 1 minute and after the round the last player that has survived or the last player that has the most HP gets a point. The one with the most points wins the battle. With each win you get XP and with this XP you can level up to get new weapons (there will be a maximum of 100 Levels, the weapons will not have any tactical advantage over the other, they will either only look different or they will have different functions "PROGRESSION SYSTEM").
