It was dom in the mission where you split off in doubles. Marcus was with Dom and Cole was with Baird.

Only played the original trilogy and read canon novels of that period, Gears of War has such a good story and lore. I liked the fact that the Locust were not simply generic genocidal monsters slaughtering without reason but instead were in a desperate death struggle of their own with the Lambent for years before E-Day and were essentially forced to the surface of Serra. The Locust had been aware of Humanity for a long time observing the very real destructive and untrustworthy nature of Humans especially during the 79 year Pendulum Wars. The Locust studied Humanity to the point that they deemed that Humans would never accept the Locust co-inhabiting the surface and would inevitably make War on them. With this is mind the Locust thought that their only chance of survival would be to launch a preemptive strike against the Humans wiping as many out as possible before then proceeding to colonise the surface. Gears is great because it is not a simple black and white good vs evil story it is about two species fighting for survival any way that they can that have been pushed against each other by a more deadly and persistently aggressive outside force.

The locust hord isnt a human race that mutated. It´s a own kind of creatures they just look in some ways like human.And the other creatures like Brumaks r in the locust world like cows for humans.The illusion just mutated the locust.Not the humans mutated in to locust .Hope I could help. I honestly kinda feel bad for the locusts in the way, they were basically pushed out of their home, their girlfriends are psychotic brutes and then they all got wiped out. I mean they came back as the swarm so they got the last laugh but still

I remember when I first met the berserker in gears 1 I was absolutely terrified of them but as time passed and I played the rest of the games while also reading the book and figured out truely how much grief and suffering they cause I grew nothing but contempt and hatred for them I gave no pity to what was happening to them in the hollows I want nothing else than to have every single last one of them to die and if they had a game set in a alternate reality where cog knew of them and made their own holes to launch a counter offensive and bring the fight straight to them I would gladly pay cash so I can go with them to storm the hollows
