Kacper Chamerski The locust were originally people infected then captured and studied by scientists who then abandoned the project. The locust lived underground and mutated even more over time.

There is one thing you missed, Myrrah and her locusts were not the first, or only, locust. The Rise of Raam comic series confirmed that the locust civilization had existed for tens or even hundreds of thousands of years before E-Day. Something to do with ancient nomadic humans getting trapped in the hollow by a landslide or some such. Hence the massive underground cities made completely of stone, which would have taken centuries to build at least.

The Lambent Wretches from Gear of War 1 scared the shit out of me when I first fought them. The Locust fighting each other in Gears of War 2 confused me. Then the former scared the shit out of me again in Gears of War 3.

For the longest time, I once thought the Locust were the original denizens of the planet, and the Humans were ruining it by being blatantly stupid with pollution and whatnot, and that's how the Human-Locust War started: i.e. the Locust wanted to keep their planet from dying. But after (recently: as in before the release of Gears 5) digging into the lore, I was dead wrong. And Gears 5 helped to confirm all that. Blew my mind. Never once thought the Imulsion was a parasite attempting to mutate humans, minus the Imulsed Humans in Gears of War 3, (I knew if affected Locust because of the first 2 Gears of War games, and gave Humans Rust Lung. Thought it was usually fatal), and Genetic Engineering helped that mutation evolve further. Deeper Lore than I originally thought. That's coming from a long time fan of the Franchise.

You know, I had always been a fan of this game series but never looked into the deep lore. I even stopped keeping track after gears 4 was released. I never even knew there was a pendulum wars mission. I didn't know Niles created the locusts, I only knew he created scions. I realized the queen was once a normal human thanks to gears 4. You really opened my eyes with this video. I might go get gears 5 now

It’s an old game but if you want to review Resistance Fall of Man, that would be an interesting choice, it’s like gears that started off with and infection/virus and spread throughout the world pushing humanity to the edge of extinction. Btw have a new year guys!

This parasite not only created the Locust, but created something that made the Locust quickly become irrelevant and fearful of it. A quick question that you can answer when you have time: is it possible to explain the blood plague and infection caused by the old god hybrid made in Nazmir in the Uldir facility? It looks both like a fungus type of infection to areas surrounding it, but also seems to have made a massive group of trolls go insane as well as stronger than they should be (physical and magically I mean).

I just finished the first three games of the franchise last week and I'll be honest this is the BEST explanation I've gotten, because the story in game is deeply muddied and unclear whats going on, gameplay is pretty good though.
