Dr Sampadananda Mishra, a renowned Sanskrit scholar whose work is focused towards rediscovering the aesthetic and scientific nature of the Sanskrit language delivered a talk titled "The Logic and Magic of Sanskrit" in the RRI auditorium on February 1st.
Dr Sampadananda Mishra, director of Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Indian Culture, Puducherry is a well known Sanskrit scholar whose work over decades has involved rediscovering the aesthetic and scientific nature of the Sanskrit language, besides a dedicated effort towards sparking interest in Sanskrit and its revival amongst the public.
He is the author of several books including, ‘Sanskrit and the evolution of human speech’, ‘The wonder that is Sanskrit’ and ‘Chandovallari - a handbook of Sanskrit prosody’. His work has won him accolades such as the Maharishi Badarayna Vyasa Samman from the President of India in 2011 for his outstanding contributions to Sanskrit.
He is the founder of Samskrita Balasahitya Parishad that aims at creating, evaluating and prop- agating children’s literature in Sanskrit. He was instrumental in launching ‘Divyavani’ a first of its kind Sanskrit radio with the aim of taking Sanskrit as a living language to all. Additionally, he initiated the Vande Mataram Library Trust towards preserving Indic culture and traditions through digitisation of books and manuscripts in Sanskrit and other Indian languages.
Dr Mishra is currently involved in many projects such as understanding the effect of ‘chandas’ (meter) on children with learning disability and in creating innovative Sanskrit learning materials for children. More details on Dr Mishra’s multifarious activities can be found at safic.aurosociety.org.
