Man, what a show! I would say this is the best show you’ve ever covered for the channel and what brilliant coverage it is! I don’t know whose stall you were looking at during the interview with Steve Holland, but man there was a lot of great stuff there! Thank you so much for showcasing this Oz wonderland of historical marvelous! ❤

Nice to briefly chat with you at the book fair. I wish I could have stayed longer. I feel I have to plan for the next one with military precision to get the most out of it. I was able to stay within budget though. But as always these post book fair videos are great, but they always remain a bitter reminder of all the stuff I passed up 😄😄

More great content Jules. Was lovely to get a chance to chat to yourself and Bob. I came away with a good haul! It was busy but a fraction less than the last one but the weather and no Piccadilly line due to engineering works certainly didn’t help. Keep up the great work.

More epic coverage, Mr Burt. I may be back in the fray for the next one, but at this point I still feel I need to consolidate the archive by moving some books on. Good to see that bagging is becoming more of a thing among dealers. I visited a bookshop in Bristol the other day where the owner had some choice SF paperbacks- at realistic to high prices- but they were unbagged at the high end, which only means one thing: unnecessarty wear thus reducing chances of purchase at said high prices. See you soon, I hope!
@JulesBurt2 ай бұрын
Thanks Steve, it wasn't the same without you and I truly hope you can make the next show. Most dealers at the show had their stock bagged up and there were so many bargains, it was such a good event🙂

Some great condition books there. I know a couple of shops that would charge double what i see here for paperbacks that are pretty ratty. A few novelisations I see there i would have snapped up. But it would cost me a lot to get to London and then the venue. I might treat myself one day, though, for what must be a great experience and a chance to meet others who share the interest. I can imagine i would get "book blindness" with that many paperbacks to flick through. So much to see. Thanks for the video.
@JulesBurt2 ай бұрын
Book blindness, it definitely hit me that day, I was a little overwhelmed by all the goodies. An incredible selection though🙂
@Ian-lp1pr2 ай бұрын
Brilliant as always. May I point out though that the insert (top right) covers the price labels of the books you flick through which is a bit of a shame. All the best and keep up the good work.

At the 2005 Crime Writers Convention ("Left Coast Crime") in El Paso TX I met the publishers of Ramble House Books (and huge Harry Stephen Keeler fans) who were reissuing a huge amount of his old titles in paperback. I believe all the reissues are now out of print as well. There are nothing like those old hardbacks esp with dust jackets, some of the strangest books ever issued in America.
@JulesBurt2 ай бұрын
I bet they were. Not something I have myself.
@danjameson15722 ай бұрын
years after El Paso I was at a bookstore in Minneapolis and they unlocked a private room and the shelves were lined with 1st pressings of Harry Stephen Keeler books in the original jackets. True story. They were all in the 75 - 100 quid range, I left them where they were. True story.

very enjoyable fair, would love to see it there more often and even more dealers there. Picked up some excellent books at decent prices. Got some nice RE Howard items as well as comic related. Picked up some wonderful items from the first part as well before getting into the book fair proper, the tables with the £3 books often throws up some wonderful finds. The other room wasn't bad either (but I wish it was more books / magazines than all the other stuff)

Wait, I thought you said Penguin did away with the dust wrappers during WWII because of paper rationing. But the green crime ones you say have dust wrappers.
@JulesBurt2 ай бұрын
Those green crime titles with dust wrappers were all pre-war editions which came with wrappers. The wartime ones don't of course. From memory books 228 onwards were without wrappers.
