"Emil Wiechert created the field of geological prospecting using small, artificially-created earthquakes." This might be true purpose of the machine, an extremely powerful mineral prospecting device that uses GBI's volatile fault lines to detect its many ore veins, or "a crack in the window to the future" of mining, however instead of working as Rüdiger intended it backfired and instead it essentially fried the brains of all the people who built it. Though it is noteworthy that the test did yield enough data for Rüdiger to transmit off to a mysterious party so the test must have partially worked.

Someone definitely got that data, but there should also be physical copies. Unless it was all on a storage device and he burned the physical copies, the foreman may have also got a copy of the data. We won't know. This is just an interesting turn.
