If you were a real tony hawk junkie back in the day, it didn’t matter what platform, a tony hawk game was a tony hawk game, I remember simultaneously playing all of them, from gba to ps1, to ps2, just naturally accepted the quality rate with each one, skating games felt great as long as you could throw down some tricks and complete goals, thug on gba was a weird one though

7:26 If you look carefully, building up meter mid-combo is a mechanic added in THPS3, and also applies to the PS one ports of THPS3 and 4. In THPS2X and games prior to THPS3, the meter only increases when the combo ends, and the amount depended on how big your combo was.

I have very good memories of this port. I didn't grow up with a PS1, far from it. Most of my early gaming memories was the 360, but my uncle got the PlayStation classic with the USB sticks that had all the games and I played all the Tony Hawk games on that thing. This was after I discovered THUG and even after the 1+2 remaster, but the THPS 3 and 4 ports on PS1 were just mesmerizing to me. They were so simple and relaxing. This video let me relive those memories even though it wasn't that long ago. I'm very excited to see the content you release in the future, I'm definitely sticking around.

Okay that whole "extension" mechanic pisses me off... Because why the hell does it not work like that in newer titles? Limiting the inputs to only the face buttons (i.e. triangle to square rather than left and triangle) limits the amount of grinds you're able to get into. In THUG you can't switch to board/lipslide, overcrook, feeble, or any special tricks mid grind. As a skater this is infuriating as it limits the single grind combos that are possible.

We absolutely had a Gamecube at this point, so I'm not sure why I rented THPS4 for the PSX... maybe my stupid kid brain didn't realize the difference? In my opinion, THPS4 PSE feels a little incomplete. Custom Skater has no pro goal, but its ending movie (More Bails) can be unlocked. Not to mention collecting decks only affects all of the pro skaters and the currently-selected Custom Skater. If you collect every deck, but none of your custom skaters have access to the Visions deck, then you must start a New Career and collect all seven decks with the same custom skater for the Visions deck. Even worse, completely clearing Career Mode does not unlock all of the tricks for all of the skaters. However, getting a third medal unlocks all of the special tricks (counting Little Person's special tricks). Not to mention some tricks didn't get new animations, like the Seatbelt Air (Weddle) and the Crail Grab (Indy Nosebone). The only new trick animations I see are Flap Jack, Flip Yo Self, Food Poisoning and Little Person's special tricks (Little Tornado, Little Head Push & Little Bed). Not even the 6th gen versions had Flap Jack, Flip Yo Self and Food Poisoning, as these special tricks were intended for a cut bonus character. It's a shame since THPS3 and THPS4 had 16 playable skaters each (Custom Skater included), while THPS2 had 17 playable skaters. Speaking of why the previous-gen version exists, it was released at a time where 6th gen consoles other than the Dreamcast weren't widely available, and finding those machines was nearly impossible. As a result, the 5th gen ports were produced to make the game more accessible to consumers at times like this.

1st World Country person: "No one knew this previous-gen version of the game even existed, because as soon as the next-gen released, every single person in the country was able to afford it." I didn't even know Pro Skater 3 and 4 had a "better" version (the original ones), I thought Underground was the first one to have that improvement from the last generation of consoles. Also, yeah, hate that "super ollie" thing. Very weird. To me it felt like a glitch with the level out mechanic which allowed you to "level out" anywhere, any time, and maybe the level out feature gave you a small jump boost.
