I can sense another solid THPS video I'm about to watch here, Pete Hawk is back and taking it to the streets once again.

Incredible editing as usual, you got a few chuckles out of me! If the Career Mode being the same from THPS 1-3 is starting to get repetitive for you, you'll like THPS4. It's done in a much better way with a lot more variety in goals, without the time limit while you're just skating around. I recommend that after THPS4, you try out Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure, which is built on the same engine and is solid for what it is.

It's interesting how you say you're starting to get tired of the mission structure in this game... looks like they changed things at the perfect time for THPS4! And yeah, the revert is probably the single biggest boon for this series and its formula, it's kinda crazy just how good it is! Excellent video as always!
@PetroniousАй бұрын
Thanks! And yeah form what I've played of 4 it's very interesting to see how much that changed things up. Keen to jump back to my notes on it all and do a video when I can!

Pro Skater 3 is one of the entries I got into last (alongside Pro Skater 4) and I've actually 100%-ed the Career as all characters three times (twice on GCN, my main TH platform for that generation, and once on PS2). I really like Pro Skater 3, it's my favorite of the OG Classic trilogy and my 5th favorite game in the series. I do preferred the controls and physics, but after hearing you out and I can certainly understand your issues with them (part of me wonders if this is the result of PAL conversions of the time?). The additions of the double tap tricks and reverts were great. I'm sure you'll enjoy the improvements they make in THPS4, which carry over through American Wasteland. THPS4 is when I consider the game feel to have really hit its stride, then further refined with the subsequent entries. My main issue with Pro Skater 3 is actually the sound design. Not the sound track, that's great, but the sound effects. They're rather quiet and I don't think they are as satisfying as the previous 2 games, or the rest of the sixth generation. Especially the bail and board sounds. The levels in Pro Skater 3 are really fantastic. Some of the best lineup in the series imo, probably my 3rd or 4th favorite level pack. If you really like the open level design, I'm sure you'll really enjoy THPS4 and the story-based entries of THUG 1 & 2 and THAW. And yeah if you found this getting predictable structure, I'm sure you'll like what the future games do as well. THPS4 is next! That was the last of the first seven games I played and teen me intially thought it was one of the weakest entries in the series, but it's grown onto me so much that's now my 3rd favorite in the series! It's real fun and I can't wait to see the future video on that. Great work as always!

If it makes you feel better I understand what you mean when you talk about such a small change impacting your enjoyment. For me I know EXACTLY how pro skater 4, underground, and underground 2 feel so when I finally got around to playing American wasteland I was thrown off immediately. Something was just off, and despite it being pretty minor it really hampered my enjoyment. It's not like it did anything wrong, it's just that I have so much muscle memory getting in the way.
@PetroniousАй бұрын
Yeah I think it's because I've had SO many people say this one is is their favourite in the series... that it felt like a bit of a delicate subject 😅 But just as someone working their way through the games and trying to be objective about things... yeah something felt a little off. Outside of video editing I've actually played up to Wasteland so far, and yeah... let's just say I'll have comments about how that game "feels" too 😅
@donk918Ай бұрын
I remember my brother getting this. We came off the 64. Tony hawk 1 and 2 was great. There was a good break before 3. It felt familiar but next gen at the time. We was easily entertained at that time. Who remembers split screen free roam atv off road fury. We would play as our favorite bikes and talk about which one was better. Making up games... the graffic shift had never been so huge. In southern ohio atv off road fury sold consoles. It was the ps2 game to own.
@PetroniousАй бұрын
Yeah the shift from the PS1 era systems to the PS2 era systems was MASSIVE! Well never have a console generational leap that big ever again.

Played this few years ago, and I liked this one. It may not be my favorite, but then again, I'm not the biggest THPS fan (bar 2 since that was my THPS game). Game's pretty neat, and I'm still interested in trying 4 and THUG

I feel you about demakes, I love seeing what devs could do trying to get a version of a game running on a much less powerful console. Colin Mcrae Rally on GBA? Gorgeous. Smashing Drive? Significantly less gorgeous and less fun but still it's fully 3d with texture-mapped polygons on the GBA. Warriors Orochi / the later Warriors games on PSP? Incredible, huge levels you can wander around with no loading on this little handheld.

Good stuff! Gotta wonder though, whether you'll cover THPS4's PS1 port too. I find it really interesting that as the PS2 versions evolve their structure and gameplay, the PS1 equivalents *mostly* don't - It's like having an alt reality version of the same game lol
@PetroniousАй бұрын
Oh yeah, I also like the idea of two very different versions of the same game! If you pause the video at 00:13 and look at the games on the shelf, you'll see a PS1 copy of THPS4 sat there waiting for me 😉

Personally I feel the game plays much more smoothly and the control physics feel much more consistent and intuitive than the first two games

Nlim not exactly sure what the end lag issue with moves youre having is as someone whos been playing the whole series for a while now. It may be possible that a ghost input might be lining up a new trick in your queue before landing. Thps3 is really noticeable with that. Especially with the double tap mechanics for grabs and flip tricks showing up as you get further on into the series. So glad youre going through the series proper though, found your post on reddit and insta subbed. Keep up the great work!
@PetroniousАй бұрын
Yeah that could have been the issue at times too. It's one of those things I found hard to pinpoint but I knew SOMETHING was going on lol. And thanks for checking my video out! I always get a bit anxious posting a video of mine in a subreddit but it seems quite a few people came here from that post 😅👍

I haven't played all versions of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, so I can't comment on this through experience, but I do know that during the era of PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox OG. Some games get certain changes, whether big or small, depending on the console you play them. I remember Nitro Rad mentioning this multiple times depending on Rayman Arena and Rayman 2. It could be the same for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 on Gamecube and Xbox since those versions came out after the PS2 and PS1 versions. It's just a possibility, of course. Again, I can't comment through experience.

Oh yeah I've seen that video. I learnt a lot about that game as I had no idea the other console games came later. I suppose that's something I could have looked into as well... But I just went with the PlayStation versions as they seemed the most popular, and the ones I would have bought at the time too.

THPS2 is the one for me. There is something about THPS3 that doesn’t grab me visually. It almost feels a little clean and light compared to its predecessor.
