Oddly, "Millennials versus GenX" had no challenges thrown, but it did provide my favourite challenge throwing "quote": very first immunity challenge. Peih-Gee Law throwing the challenge to boot Aaron is such an underrated move. I love how Peih-Gee orchestrated a game breaking move that was fully in like with Survivor China's theme (plus utilizing the Art of War). Peih-Gee is a bad Survivor player. This was a good move, but after the merge, she had no chance. Her social game wasn't good enough to get anyone to flip, even if it might be in their best interest. China would’ve been so so interesting if the tribes went into the merge 5-5, but it shows how high level the strategic play was that season, with throwing a challenge being a viable strategy, and then todd outsmarting the plan to blindside jamie, only for zhan hu to catch onto some fishiness on the other tribe and win anyway. I wish would’ve talked more about how Peih Gee and Jamie also intentionally didn’t throw the challenge because they questioned the loyalty of their old tribemates.

Throwing the challenge to get out Bradley was Chelsea's idea. Her and Bradley butted heads all season, and Chelsea was sick of Bradley and viewed his bond with Kellyn as threatening, so she convinced Dom to throw the challenge so the blood would be on his hands if Bradley found out the challenge throw (saving Chelsea's ass) and then promptly blindsided Bradley. This then allowed Chelsea to see her enemy go, and in the process secure Kellyn as her ally and have good graces with Libby/Donathan, and therefore the other Malolos. Unfortunately none of the edit showed this and instead made Chelsea invisible all season. :( Absolutely crushing with the shit edit Chelsea got. She was legitimately a fantastic player and didn't deserve to get shafted hard like that. I hope she comes back one day, and I hope her edit would be much better the second time.

Getting Bradley out seemed big for Domenick as in post game interviews he said Wendall was close to Bradley and Kellen and could have split Wendall's loyalties. Fairplay said in an interview with Rob Cesternino of RHAP that the truth is there wasnt consensus before the challenge as to whether it would be Burton or Rupert going home. Because Rupert was taken onto the morgan tribe for that tribal (awfully convenient from the producers...), they went ahead with Burton and the show was edited to not have Rupert's safety in question. But he thinks its more likely that Rupert would have gotten the boot than Burton if he had been around. Rupert said that he sensed that a bit which explains his reluctance to go along.

Having played Survivor orgs before, throwing challenges at swap has long been one of my favored strategies since it gets you till merge with OG tribal numbers + the other tribes haven't been able to secure relationships through tribal (so they're not fully sure if they can trust them). The negative is that you have less cross tribal relationships which is bad, so this strategy really depends on how long you were with that OG tribe and how well you think you can trust them even when they've been away from you.

They forfeited the challenge before it began, so it wasn't technically a throw.

Why throw in general? Seems winning is tied to strategy and luck. Avoiding pre merge tribal Council IS the strategy
@jhornacek
@jhornacek 3 жыл бұрын
But when you can throw a challenge to get rid of someone that is not your alliance, or will be against you at the merge, like in the China example, it makes sense to throw the challenge and (a) get rid of that person, and (b) prevent the other tribe from voting out one of your allies.

Season 15 (China) was the last time I ever watch the show. But I have to say between the weird tribe swap by the producers and the resulting expert strategy, this points to this season as being probably the high point of the whole show's run. Also, the eating challenge was nasty and dreamed up by sadistic jerks. Also, wasn't this the smallest number people in the starting group after the pilot first season?
@ErinMoran94
@ErinMoran94 2 жыл бұрын
China started with 16 castaways, the same number of castaways as in seasons 1-7, 12, & 18. All other seasons are 18 or 20 castaways, except Fiji, season 14, that had 19.
