Except..they don't provide INFLATION PROTECTION. The 800lb gorilla, in almost every retiree's "room". I can't see how they could possibly be viable..UNLESS..a retiree had such a large starting balance in one, in relation the their upcoming spending needs, AND/OR; a retiree who purchased one, at a very advanced age, where the long-term corrosive effect of inflation over time, would not be a factor.
