I’ll be fast asleep when this airs, but here’s one of my favorite quotes from the book: “There's a place in most of us where the rain is pretty much constant, the shadows are always long, and the woods are full of monsters.” Edit: Woke up early, and what a great way to start the day! 🌟🌟🌟you rock, SKBC!! 🎉

On a side note. Go walk at 4mph for a while and figure it out. Main issue, apparently we have evolved into superbeings. Imagine what a gutless Coward the major is. To be proud to serve, to punch tickets.
@mac888spectral7Күн бұрын
Funny, I'm between vehicles right now and was having similar thoughts yesterday as my nearing 50 year old legs carried me to Walmart. Four mph? Oh hell no.
@joemckraken7960Күн бұрын
jake chambers in the long walk? i dont remember that at all. the poem also sounded oddly specific about a book i dont think was written yet. . artistic license from you perhaps?
@stephenkingbookclub1054Күн бұрын
You're right -- Jake isn't mentioned in the Long Walk. But in some of our episodes, during the night hours when nothing specific is mentioned in the book, the host passes the time reading something else from the King universe. The first night it was the poem "The Dark Man" -- and this night it was Jake Chambers' essay written in "The Waste Lands." (That's a long way of saying, yes: artistic license, lol)

The only nit pick i have with the long walk is that four miles per hour is actually a pretty quick pace. I tried it out on a treadmill, it was nearly a jog for me.
@stephenkingbookclub1054Күн бұрын
Right?! $ miles an hour seems way too fast... especially considering the boys in the book have the energy to talk and argue with each other. I can't help but think King did a miscalculation -- and really wanted a pace around 4 kilometers an hour...
@jamesrodgers5422Күн бұрын
@@stephenkingbookclub1054 My guess is that he planned out the story then had to reverse engineer the pace. Tho I'll give young Mr King the benefit of the doubt since this was his first book.
@stephenkingbookclub1054Күн бұрын
@@jamesrodgers5422 Yes, he was very young (albeit very talented) when he wrote this... and I'm pretty sure part of him wanted the walkers to be able to cross the state lines... so the pace needed to be rather brisk to get that done!
@jamesrodgers5422Күн бұрын
@@stephenkingbookclub1054 I will violently agree with you. The character work in this story is some of the strongest I've ever seen. There is essentially no plot to this story, but the characters keep it going for the whole thing.
@kyleethekeltКүн бұрын
Oh, I did not lose the reference to the Road Virus, nor to The Dark Tower. delicious. Unfortunately the audio in your commercial clipped rather markedly (too close-miced, I think), it didn't sound like compression), but a huge amount of work obviously goes into your scripts. Very entertaining, very detailed, very well done.
@stephenkingbookclub1054Күн бұрын
Thanks so much... and you're right about the audio from that commercial spoof... That was actually one of my early videos from before I bought an actual mic, lol

I don't know if King gave everyone of the 100 walkers a name, or did ou add any on your own?
@stephenkingbookclub1054Күн бұрын
King mentioned about 30 walkers by name. So there's a lot of fan-fiction from me in these episodes -- to flesh out the other competitors and offer details as to the exact fate of each walker. However, I do my best to pay close attention to the events in the book as well...
