True but even though he had already passed that doesn't mean that those that made this show did not get inspired from Henson's work, after all Henson did inspire many to go into puppeteering, or in Henson's case muppeteering.

This is a very cool obscure show. The puppets are of Jim Henson Quality. Also, I find it interesting how they depicted the w*ndigo in this episode as a evil gush of wind rather than the "Skull Deer Stereotype" we see over and over again. Weird that they said the W-word though because I heard you're not supposed to say that, although one character got attacked when he said it.

Many days have passed since I became aware of this puppet series ‘The Longhouse Tales’, a series of which I have never heard of until nearly two weeks ago. At first glance, it felt like a television series that was released in the 90s and a series that Jim Henson’s Company could put together (But then sources would say otherwise). A series of stories on Aboriginal Canadian folklore and history, all told by a storyteller as mysterious as the young coyote who came from the skies through a shooting star but having no memory of who he is/was or where he even came from (Whereas the storyteller merely implies he’s been traveling for a long time). Adventure and magic are tied together by a colorful cast of characters, each memorable in their own way, stirring my own curiosity as to where this series will take its reintroduced audience. It’s definitely not a series that includes songs like most puppet series, I will say this much. What’s neat about this series is the balance between two seemingly separate plots yet is somewhat connected to a degree. It is this episode where we are introduced to the storyteller, Hector Longhouse, who lands upon a shop owned and operated by its owner and operator, Ticonderoga, who not only tries to sell his products to passing tourists but also having to put up with loitering bats who often crack jokes at his expense. But the major plot finds the lively hood of the world’s inhabitants altered forever when a coyote lands upon their homeland, for reasons they do not understand (And neither can the coyote himself). Initially coming from the light, yet claiming to come from the dark, our hero ‘Dwight is Right’ or just ‘Dwight’ offers intrigue and skepticism especially from a moody wolverine who believes this coyote’s presence will destroy their home. An arrival that attracts the attention of a Wendigo, a creature interpreted numerous ways throughout history, but in this case a formless force of nature aiming to destroy the coyote out of a fear of ‘change’. Change is essentially the partial theme of this opening episode, a newcomer’s presence that a majority of the animals open wholeheartedly with great interest in helping the young one find his way. Yet this arrival still leaves much to desire for some, at least one being deeming him a stranger. We can feel the characters’ internal behavior to the actions by the well-crafted designs of the puppets itself. The episode definitely sets up an arc that is bound to draw interest for those just introduced to this series for the first time, especially since this is no ordinary coyote as he appears to harness the power of light through a mark in his paw. While I don’t know if he is an alien or a spirit or some creature from a long distant time and place, I’ve been invested in this series and looked forward to every episode since this channel was kind enough to post them for our viewing pleasure. And it’s funny seeing a notable cast member from the old ‘Shining Time Station’ series, hence where I recognized the storyteller from. Looking forward to how this all turns out.

I'm having some weird nostalgic memories and deja vu I haven't felt in almost 20 years. But I think I remember back in Kindergarden, my class put this on. The classroom was dark. I think I remember being scared of the weird howling thing the wendingo made. I remember wanted to play with the other kids to something inspired to this with animal toys but everybody lived far. And it was school, and everything was supposed to be boring and bland, and not fun and intuitive in any way. Awe memories.

That's because one of shows producers and creators was Lawrence Mirkin. Mirkin often worked as a creative consultant for Henson on many of his works including one of my favorite movies from Henson, Labyrinth. Ish kind of reminds me of the old man with cane in Labyrinth. He also produced the Fraggle Rock series and the Jim Henson Hour. So in a way they are kind of muppets. Which explains why people think that this looks like Henson made it. As fan of Jim Henson, I can definitely tell it was inspired by Henson's work.
