Heavenly father didn't need to take 8 years to bring them to the promised land. But they as a family needed 8 years to prepare spiritually, mentally and physically for each progressive leg of the journey. Each of us also has a promised land, our very own lands full of milk and honey to which the Lord will lead us. His promises are not always swift but they are certain and we will find that we grow and become much more in the journey than in our "arrival". We always grow much more in the waiting than in the receiving.

I love the little things they included in these videos, like: - Everyone playing on the beach (it never occurred to me while reading the Book of Mormon that that would probably be one of the first things everyone would have wanted to do once they got there lol) - Bits of dialogue that make the story more cohesive, like “You are not Moses, and this isn’t the Red Sea!” - Laman, upon completing the ship, reluctantly turning to Nephi with a “you were right” face and going, “It is good.” And Nephi looking at him like “Wow good to see you finally admitting this commandment of God was a good idea thank you” (I like that even though Nephi doesn’t rebel against God and he isn’t violent, you can still see the natural human reactions he has towards his brothers. It makes you realize you can be annoyed with people but still treat them well, and choose to be righteous rather than punching the person you disagree with) - LEHI GIVING A HORSEY RIDE TO HIS GRANDKIDS - “It is a Bountiful land... WAIT WHY DIDN’T WE THINK OF THAT NAME YET LET’S CALL IT BOUNTIFUL” - The fact Nephi prays out loud in some videos and mentally in this video, to portray that both types of praying are acceptable to God - Nephi building an entire workshop before his brothers even notice because he works that fast (or they’re that oblivious) - Nephi looking down for a second like “why” when they ask “What are you doing” because he fully expects them to not like what he has to say - Sam standing at the side lines during the argument, fully expecting violence, so he stays close enough to step in if necessary - “YEEESSSS WE GET HONEEEYYYY MMMMM” - The camel watching the construction of the ship like “Yes good job everyone, looking good” - Family prayer on the beach, including Laman and Lemuel - The looks of anticipation from everyone before the ship sets sail Tl;dr, The acting here is good, it’s true to the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Mormon is true.

@@KnuttyEntertainment People will continue to grasp at straws and try to find the Book of Mormon at fault with ANYTHING,....... like by now I realize that it's not just that they don't believe or aren't convinced, but they actively are seeking ANY argument they can to try to discredit it or show it to be false and untrue. But the Book speaks for itself! The list of supposed "anachronisms" used to be bigger too, but with more and more discoveries in the Americas, we are learning that literally many of the things once said to be anachronisms are actually not at all. Take for instance the Vered Jericho Sword. Steel sword from 7th century BCE. Sword of Laban is basically now no longer anachronistic. And many other examples to. I personally believe that many things we think also might be anachronistic today for the Book of Mormon times in ancient America will be simply proven to be acceptable and true in the future. After all though, I have my testimony from the Holy Ghost. Luke 24:32 King James Version (KJV) 32 And they said one to another, Did not our *heart* *burn* *within* *us* , while he talked with us by the way, and while he *opened* *to* *us* *the* *scriptures* ? That is how we know these things are true. By the witness of the Holy Ghost, in whatever way Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ choose to speak with us, be it in our mind, our thoughts, a burning in the bosom, or some other way. I testify this is true, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen!

@Jay Britton Fisher Thank you, I am aware, but behold, God has commanded us to profess the truth unto all men. And why command us if we cannot accomplish it, as Nephi said, and why profess if they cannot be saved? Even the hardest in heart can receive. Nephi and Lehi did not withhold their words from Laman and Lemuel, and their hearts were softened. Even the Anti-christs Sherem and Korihor, admitted to the truth, even if their repentance did come too late. And also the anti-nephi-lehitites. Those who know the truth need not have to told unto them, so I will continue, even if I am bombarded with slings and arrows as was Samuel the Lamanite.

@carbon273 there's plenty if you look for it. The problem is that much of the history of the natives of the Americas has been suppressed because it didn't line up with the official narrative of the Pre-Colombian Era both the good and the bad. There's a book you might find interesting called "He Walked The Americas" which is a compilation of Native stories that was compiled by someone who has no ties to the church. Even for some non-members the stories are believed to be stories of Jesus teaching the people on this side of the world.
@carbon2735 жыл бұрын
jason c That’s interesting but two more things are more of an issue for me personally. The credibility of Joseph Smiths testimony and the theology of Latter Day Saints. So there’s 3 walls actually that block my path.🤔 Of the very little I know of Joseph Smiths testimony. He claimed to have seen the Father. Yet the Bible states: “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” John 1:18 NKJV I know that Joseph Smith has his own unique translation of the KJV that the LDS don’t use upfront which is a bit sketchy (not just because it’s unique to their church but because LDS don’t use it upfront). It’s also convenient that he revised the Bible to place his name in there. It’s interesting to note that the Son was in the bosom of the Father and because of this, the Son has declared him. No offense, but I’m not sure how Smith can stack up to that. Christ stated himself: “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.” John 6:46 NKJV I talked to the missionaries about this because I was confused on that little detail and they said “He who is from God..” refers to the prophets who follow God. Which I don’t think is true either because they are just ministers to spread the gospel and messengers of God. Again I believe Christ was referring to himself. Still, even though I don’t adhere or up until now don’t agree to these pillars in LDS faith I genuinely view the brethren as my brothers and sisters. Though they may look to me not as one because I’m not baptized in the church under “proper authority”. I love this church dearly.
@JCole785 жыл бұрын
@@carbon273 as far as the Joseph Smith translation goes the reason the church doesn't use it is that it remains in the possession of The Community of Christ formerly known as The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It wasn't until sometime in the '80s that they allowed us to view the manuscript in it's entirety. Before that it there was a concern that it may have been tampered with do to their opposition to things like the fact Joseph taught polygamy, and that Joseph had taught that the time would come that the Saints would have to leave Nauvoo, and move west. Even now there's some debate as to whether Joseph finished the translation before he was killed. Although more and more lean towards it was in fact completed. I myself am a convert, and after becoming a member I took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about the church's history with an unbiased perspective. I dare say not many outside of the General Authorities of the church and it's history department know as much about the church's history as I do. Also being nearly half Native American myself I already knew a great deal about the history of my ancestors.

@@carbon273 If it's hard for you to reconcile Joseph Smith's testimony with biblical passages, remember that it can be hard to reconcile the biblical passages themselves; several refer to people seeing God. There must be deeper meaning to what seems evident on the surface. Even the two passages you cited appear contradictory at first glance; one has a sentence that says "no one" and another (from the same author) says "not..anyone...except". You've already drawn some additional meaning from John 6:46 to help understand John 1:18; consider that there is yet additional meaning that aligns with what John said. Of course the passages were originally written in another language and then translated, and it's easy for some things to be lost in translation. I do notice that the passage speak in past tense; even Latter-day Saints consider it to be a rare event when God is seen or when He actually speaks, literally, to man. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe in receiving truth from God through the Holy Ghost. For myself, I wouldn't even assume that the Bible was true scripture without a witness from God about it; many people accept the Bible simply because they were raised with it, though many other people were raised in different faith traditions and carry different assumptions. I originally assumed that both the Bible and Book of Mormon were true because I was raised with them, but as I grew to become an adult and eventually live on my own, I found more need, as time went on, to think for myself and find out from God whether they really were true scripture. Without that witness from Him, I think I would be highly skeptical of many parts of the Bible (and the Book of Mormon), but because I have received a witness from Him I instead simply seek understanding. As the years have passed I have received a witness from God many times over in many ways. I hope that you also receive such a witness from Him, and that once you do you will both increase in understanding and be patient while still seeking some answers. I am grateful for all I've received from God through the Church of Jesus Christ even though I've never had all of my questions answered immediately.

Fun fact, I heard a theory (take it with a pillar of salt) that a way that "their meat [could] become sweet," is by laying out the meat to dry in the sun, making a kind of jerky, that has a soft sweet inside. I believe I read it from either Hugh Nibley or The Journal of Book of Mormon studies.
@jamesmaclean55865 жыл бұрын
awesome astronaut Hey that totally makes sense! If they were 8 years in the wilderness.... they would stop for days at a time.... in that hot sun.... lots of time to dry the meat! Ive made jerky before with a food dehydrator.... you just put the thinly sliced meat in the heat and most of the moisture disapears.... and voila! Jerky!
@LiwaySaGu5 жыл бұрын
awesome astronaut The Book of Mormon is a book of miracles and yet this theory is trying to say this process (of the meat becoming sweet) could only have been a natural one.
@armchairrocketscientist49345 жыл бұрын
@@LiwaySaGu The Lord, even with his miracles, works through natural means. Is the Lord's instruction to Nephi, helping him build the ship, any less miraculous? Even with other help given by the Lord, it is a natural process to him. In the end though, it is still merely a theory, and if it is true, I do not feel that it belittles the scripture at all.
@jamesmaclean55865 жыл бұрын
@@LiwaySaGu When you really consider everything that happens on the deepest levels, every single thing that occurs could be considered a miracle... The processes involved in making jerky is actually a miraculous thing!

@@armchairrocketscientist4934 great point, although it was the Lord that said "I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not", so it was THE LORD that did the act of making the food sweet, not Nephi. I wouldn't think that he came down to make beef jerky for Nephi if Nephi could make the jerky by himself, especially with Nephi's character. The Lord did the act, so it must have been something Nephi couldn't do by himself.

Can't we all relate to each character in their family and find the lessons God's intends for us to understand. I'm so grateful for the witness of the Holy Ghost that testifies to me of the truth of this families ancient record of faith and their trials and tribulations. What a blessing to have scripture of men following Gods will and being led in their everyday lives by the Holy Ghost. I find and enjoy great peace from reading the Book of Mormon and know it is the word of God. I have had my share of acting like Laman and Lemuel, and I have had many more happier days of acting as Nephi...obedient to the word of God and felt his hand in my everyday life. I grow closer to My Savior each day I practice reading these scripture and praying to my Father in Heaven. I love the Bible's account of the Savior ministry and find the Book of Mormon complimentary to witnessing of Jesus Christ as the people of America were taught by prophets of his gospel and looked forward to the prophecies that he would come to them after his resurrection. Each Chapter of the Book of Mormon preaches of Jesus Christ and his teachings leading up to Jesus Christ birth in Jerusalem, life, death, and resurrection...then appearance in the America's in fulfillment of the prophecies that he would visit the Nephites (See Book of Mormon; 3 Nephi 11-26).www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11?lang=eng

What a test of faith. What a difficult test , and yet they did it. In a sacrament meeting I went to today a member read from the Book of Mormon, Moroni’s promise which is in Moroni 10: 3-5 that if you read the Book and ask in faith in the name of Jesus Christ you will know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true. When he read that I remembered when I also read the book , and asked in faith. And I received my answer. I know it is the word of God as is the Bible. It is God’s word. It is Another testament of Jesus Christ. Amen.

One aspect about these videos that I love is how humanizing they are. Nephi was faithful, but that didn't make him a robot. Laman and Lemuel weren't the personification of lazy and rebellious, but rather acted like people who just doubted. Sometimes we feel like we can never be good enough to be Nephi. These videos encourage us that he's not too different from us. Sometimes we feel like we can never be bad enough to be Laman and Lemuel. These videos warn us that they're not too different from us.

Nephi is my personal favorite hero from the Book of Mormon. I know he was a prophet of God because he did some amazing things that a normal person could never do without God's inspiration. For instance, when he sliced off Laban's head while Laban was passed out drunk, that was an amazing inspiration from God. And also when he shocked Laman and Lemuel after he had warned them to not touch him, and they didn't touch him, but he shocked them anyways, that was an amazing demonstration of God's inspiration. I know this because Nephi would never have those violent tendencies unless he was inspired by God.

I can't imagine bearing children under these harsh circumstances. I also wonder how Nephi's wife felt every time she woke up only to realize Nephi was away again speaking to the Lord. What gave Nephi such great spiritual power? In D&C 50 we read that if you have some light and continue in God then your light shall grow brighter and brighter until the perfect day. I say these things that you may know the truth, that you may chase darkness from among you. It is growing truth that saves us from sin and the pain of sin, ignorance which is darkness. There are three ways of growing truth, Bible study, fellowship 1John1, and preaching. They all require skill as Hebrews 5 indicates. Skill is a gift from God that we can pray for, or we can step out in faith believing God will give us the high skill necessary. Some darkness (sin) we are unaware of: 1John1: he who says he has no sin deceives himself and the truth is not in him. Hebrews 13 says we can build up a diverse and strange doctrine believing we see the truth, but we will only have knowledge that doesn't profit: doesn't give us spiritual power. It says the heart should be established by grace. Grace is the love and mercy and condescension of God, in other words a gift he will bestow on us even though were sinners and if we diligently use the gift our hearts will eventually become pure (be established). NKJV Isaiah 66:17 says we can be so deluded in our faith that we try to sanctify ourselves and purify ourselves with four perverse spirits, emotions. Feelings are from God and there are ten of them but emotions are tainted feelings, Daniel 7 ten horns four others. Consider these ideas, and I hope they will help you become more spiritually powerful like Nephi.
