I have this edition and I was surprised at the quality of the paper. It's not too thick or thin but is durable. The book also feels nice in your hands when you read it. One of the best editions you can buy.

I also prefer LoTR in a single volume. It's not exactly a travel book in any case, so the book being a little cumbersome isn't too big of a deal. I'd really like to find a nice hardcover-edition at some point. Currently I don't own a copy of LoTR, I've always borrowed it from the library, or my brother (who's the biggest Tolkien-nut I've ever seen). :)

The great thing about books is that it's YOUR choice what version you want to get. Some people will prefer the paperback while others will prefer the super expensive deluxe box. Whatever one you choose, it is YOUR choice and is something you will treasure.

I have this edition and I just adore it. The only complaint I have is that HMH didn’t make Silmarillion, Children of Hurin and other Tolkien’s writings in this fashion.

There is something interesting about this vinyl edition of LOTR, but the main problem single volumes have is they are too big and heavy for the hands, and because of that, the red 50th paperback version (which I have) is unbeareable.

Daniel López yeah, I agree... I’m currently reading a really bulky book and sometimes it is a pain to carry it around or simply hold it. But I really love single volumes despite the cons.

I can afford myself: 1) "Lotr deluxe pocket edition", 2) "Lotr, single volume 50th Anniversary ed (1994)" and 3) "Lotr, Deluxe Edition (2013)". Which one can you advise me as a master of your craft? And do the second and third books have a sewn binding?

Hi! If you prefer having 3 books in a single volume, the 50th ed is incredible (although I unfortunately don’t own it). As far as I know all ed you mentioned have sewn binding. I also love the pocket size deluxe set that includes The Hobbit, but the text is smaller than the majority of people seems to find comfortable enough to read hours and hours, so keep that in mind.

I currently searching for a one book edition of The Lord of the Rings. I allready have two in German, but my two englisch editions are all three books. And that's exactly the edition I'm currently looking for. I think it's time to buy it :D It seems to fitt with my leatherbound pocket boxed editon of LotR and Hobbit.

i don't know wheter i should get this edition or the pocket boxed set, the boxed set seems very appealing but i am visually empared and i don't know if i will be able to read the font size. i am able to read regular paper backs , i have a copy of the witcher : lastr wish paper back and i am able to read it with no problems and i have also a hardback of ender's game which i have read and the font size there is actually smaller than the witcher: last wish hardback , should i get this one or the pocket edition? please help me book cravings , your the only one who owns both books and can answer this question easily.

I honestly think you should get this single volume edition. The pocket size box is pretty, but it has definitely a smaller font, and is much less comfortable to read. I just put them side by side to compare. I believe you'd prefer the single volume.

*usually* when you see that 'strip' of cloth or...whatever it is on a hardback book spine, between where the pages connect and the book spine, it's USUALLY sewn. As far as I can tell, anyway.

This volume is actually quite cheap. There are better editions of the book. I'd recommend any of the Fifteth Anniversary editions of the book.
