The Orcs have been created by Morgoth (Sauron's master) during the Years of the Trees of the First Age, the War of the Rings along with The War of the Rohirrim happened during the Third Age (end of it). Sauron's defeat at Dagorlad, and in Mordor during the Last Alliance happened at the end of the Second Age (~3000 years before The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit).

Helm Hammerhand is voiced by the great Brian Cox who was the first to play Hannibal Lecter in ManHunter, King Agamemnon in Troy and uncle Argyle in Braveheart. This role should fit him like a glove!!!

I have read Hobbit, but I am in the middle of Fellowship of the Rings, so I havent read (or watched) the rest, so I cant really say anything but the Hobbit. (though the Hobbit is pretty damn good, and so far - halfway through fellowship - Lord of the Rings has been ... really boring. Just walking and talking and stumbling upon people and walking away on repeat)

The Hobbit is one of the greatest books of all time. I love it so much! In comparison, the Lord of the Rings books are ... as you said a lot slower. Particularly at the beginning, it does pick up. The trilogy was a bit of a slog for me, I read them when I was about 10, and I decided not to re-read them since it took me sooooo long to finish them the first time! And I still haven't re-read them, the Hobbit is such an easy book to re-read in comparison. - nonsensei
