Who doesn't love this game. Absolutely wonderfull and visually joyful and probably the best story campaign in the whole franchise. This game deserve a proper sequel

Prehistory remains mysterious, you forget about friar Jacob who raised him for some time, no word about bad ending, didn't show HD face (maybe is deleted already). King Matthew is dissapointed a bit.

As a kid, I was a bit freaked out when I first played this because my name is Matthew. I thought the game had named him after me, like how the advisor in Stronghold 1 would say your name out loud!

Woah, this is the video I've been waiting since ... my childhood I suppose 🤩 It was really interesting to learn something new about Matthew's past and his further career as a noble knight ✨ Unfortunately there is still no information about the bad path as I expected to finally find out his motives to join Barclay and the Hawk 😔 Nevertheless, I'm waiting for the story of the first lady of Stronghold series - Lady Seren! ✨💙

Huh. I... like my background for Matthew Steele. We know that the peaceful campaign was the precursor to the war campaign. We also know that the lord of the peaceful campaign is both unnamed and not of royal blood. We also know that at the end of the peaceful campaign the feast begins, and the events of the king being poisoned takes place. This is what I had assumed: I came to believe that the king's poisoning was blamed upon the unnamed lord by many of the nobles save William (who, side note, suspects his brother of treachery and thus the rivalry begins). This blame escalates into war, and here I want to draw attention to the opening cutscene. Notice how the castle is upon a hill similar to where we start off in the peaceful campaign? I believe that this is the unnamed lord's demise. I also assumed that the lord had a son and apprenticed him to the blacksmith we see in the cutscene (so the page who hands the lord a sword is Matthew Steele), but this is wishful thinking on my part. In memory of the unnamed lord, Sir William takes Matthew and "raises him as his own," referenced in "Treachery!" of the bad path. As William can't take Steele openly, however, he leaves Matthew in the care of the friar Jacob, hence why they know each other.

I remember my headcanon for a bit was that Stronghold 2 was a prequel and Matthew Steele was the grandfather of The Boy from Stronghold 1/3.

I'm curious as to what wheels would be turning in Steele's head when you choose the bad route. Make no mistake, it was fun to have that option, and there were some great interactions, but siding with the guys that have been trying to kill you midcampaign felt out of character. Maybe the insecurities about his lineage reference in this video could motivate him to turn on Sir William.

I choose that route, and Matthew actually explains his qualms with Sir Williams endless charging about the country. Matthew had found himself in the jaws of death several times because of Sir William and his master paid no mind as he was busy trying to clear his name. In that ending Matthew searches for the king to crown himself over the others, not to work with them.

@@QuadrupleJMontage Honestly, I really prefer a bad path rather than a good one. I was even thinking to make some kind of a plot twist skipping missions 8-10 (like Matthew found the place of the King's hiding and decided to use this hint for himself). But talking about the military campaign itself, I don't like endings with cliches (happy endings). Thus even nowadays I choose the 'bad path' option because while playing it, you may think about a lot of things like a real meaning of friendship, a betrayal, at least struggling with yourself. These things really make sense, although they don't follow the 'good path' option

Before this i never realy understood the story of Sir Steel, i always found the evil path a bit... rushed, so like 10 years ago i made a story for my self every time i play stronghold 2, not has early has you started, but mostly to try to fit into the campaign, not realy gonna tell the whole detailed thing otherwise i wouldnt stop talking, so a quick version Mathew always thought it was foolhardy for sir william to try to infiltrate the hammer's castle, but he had no authority and was still learning so he went along with it and waited for sir william expecting william to die and for him to flee alone and not knowing what to do next, suddenly he hears alot of heavy armored soldiers moving and got ready for a fight, he saw sir william go past the bridge and was relieved to see the bridge destroyed and sir william alive, has he expected, he got caught and got lucky not to die (specialy when you can hire assassins or even thieves to infiltrate a castle who would do the job alot better), before the hammer could send more troops they quickly fled with the boat. When sir william gave him command of this small castle, he tried to do his best with his limited experience of being a leader, he started well enough, even aiding the monks to repair the bridge, he had a small village started when Sir William asked for cloth, he got lucky that the monks gave him sheep has paiment, he was still disapointed but oh well they server a porpuse, while one of his hunters were hunting he spoted vikings going towards the village and ran has fast has he could to warn Mathew. Mathew quickly started producing spears and teaching the army how to fight, sir william sent a message to Mathew saying he was sending reinforcements... that never arived, he didnt have alot of time to train his army properly but he made a small army and fortifications, the small raid was not expecting alot of resistance were quickly routed off the battlefield by the militia the village made. After a bit of time he got a letter of sir william to march his army towards a rally point, to get the best soldiers. He went there and was pissed off that sir william never sent the reinforcements and was... disapointed with sir william when he explained it, what lesson was letting an inexperienced leader and a small militia agaisnt strong vikings, starting to doubt sir william, but he kept it to himself and helped sir william to rescue a lord that was unfairly inprisioned by some witch. After releasing edward he got land and titles, he was sent north to help sir grey (gray? keep forgetting), he had a bit more experience with being a lord and he started well enough, he started building his town and started to get raided by bandits and wolves, he managed to get a stone wall up and he got reinforced by sir edward, with those men he started to push the bandits back and managed to keep the wolves at bay, he started training his army, started to earn the respect and faith of the people and nobles (with the fiests), he lead his army north to save the monks, and the monks who stayed to help sir steel trained him to be a better fighter and more respected by the people, while sir william went with sir edwin somewhere. WIth his north secure he sent soldiers to the cliffs to rain down arrows and logs while the rest of the army surrounded the bandits and slaughtered them, almost all the villages on his side of the river joined him and donated what they could. His name was known far and wide(whide?), with high morale and experienced troops he win a flawless victory at breaking the siege of sir grey's castle. Suddenly Sir edwards troops deserted edwin and told sir steel about his orders and sir steel was furious, but he didnt have time to breathe because the bull and the last viking warlord were at his doorstep, with high morale his troops drove the enemies out of his walls and out of his side of the river, suddenly the king's messanger arived and told him about his promotion and how he distrusted william, SIr steel was mixed, is the king that paranoid that he betrayes his allies?, will the king ever betray HIM? but he kept quiet because he still needed to deal with the bull, he besieged and atacked the bull's fortress, but after they took the walls and were close to the keep the bull ran. Sir grey congratulated sir steel but sir steel didnt inform about the king's toughts of william being a traitor. Suddenly the monk (i have no idea how to write his name and i am already like 10 mins just writing and deleting just the name lol), told sir steel that his 1st small town was destroyed and olaf (the fat f**k) was there with sir william hostage, he qucikly marsheled his troops and moved to siege him while sir grey stood back doing something, idk i always forgot about him, his troops were exausted but managed to trow olaf out of the land and save sir william, while sir william rested sir steel stepped out of the manor, sir steel was sad about the town he built and how hundreds of people died, but he got a message from his rear guard that they spotted edwin with a large army, sir steel quickly fortified his position and met edwin with a rested, high morale, reinforced army and walls, sir edwin's troops charged and were thrown back, but he still couldnt shake the feeling about how paranoid the king was, sir edwin tried to tell sir william about mathew's promotion but sir william told him to "F*ck off" (what a champ, even on top of this giant tower i couldnt build, even after being hanged and having a weak voice, he managed to speak loud enough for edwin to hear him.) SIr steel didnt waste time and went into the land sir grey gave him to face edwin, he quickly got to work but... olaf crashed into the shore on the town next to him and started to build a small town, sir steel quickly got to work, he got a small force trained and started to man the walls and send out rainding parties agaisnt olaf to keep him ocupied, it worked, while edwin did nothing, i dont know why but oh well, the less the better. In a massive land battle and siege battle Sir steel finaly managed to kill olaf, in his last words he said something about a feast (i am joking about this next part ok), even after dying he still thinks about eating, sheesh how is he in shape. But sir edward was bringing reinforcements up from other provinces, and marched on sir steel's castle, sir grey joined mathew steel and they managed to kick edwin back to his castle, they setup up a siege camp and quickly tried to storm the walls, the swamps were slowing hte troops down but they couldnt turn back now, the captured the walls intact and managed to fight edwin all the way to his keep, all the way to his room, where he hid under the bed. SIr edwin told sir steel about the hammer's plan, and out of pity just told the people to shove him into the stocks. Sir william arived with his troops and explained the situation (its getting late and im tired), how the hawk, the hammer and lady sara plan to siege and kill them, Sir grey didnt want to die in vein so he retreated with his armies while sir steel and sir william stayed to fight on. Sir grey, ashamed saw the hawk and tried to delay him in a field battle, the hammer's reinformenents made sir grey retreat from the battlefield. After alot of raiding parties and probing attacks, Lady Sara aproached hte castle and told them that she wasnt a traitor and her troops were gonna help them, with the hammer and anvil tactic, lady sara's troops atacked their rear while sir mathew's troops and sir williams troops rushed away from the castle the hawk and the hammer were defeated but managed to escape. Suddenly after the victory the hammer, the hawk, Lady Sara, SIr william found mathew, the hammer tried to convince him to join them, that the king was weak, paranoid and unable to lead, while sir william told mathew dont trust them, they care only for power. SIr steel tought about it, the king is so paranoid he doesnt trust his most loyal folowers, will he suffer the same fate, the king doesnt send in his troops to aid them so can he lead armies. He fled england so can he even be a real king. Or will he stay loyal to his mentor, follow his example to always stay loyal to the crown and his friends? YOU CHOOSE I only made this story because i tought the evil path made no sense so i tried to make it, more believable. do you think its good, i realy dont know, i know i made alot of spelling mistakes and i left alot out, but its night and im so tired. what do you think, what would you improve? and for gods sake dont call the gramar n*zi's. I always loved the campaign, replay it every time, i do with there were more missions but that is just me being greedy. Thank you for making stronghold 2, this was my childhood with age of empires 2

As far as I know Mathew is the only named player lord. He truly is the only named protagionist and thus can actually develope a personality In Stronghold Unreal, as you called your current project, I would like a return to those characters. original characters with personality like Mathew, William, Rat, Snake, Pig and Wolf. They made their games stories feel more alive. Also a nice simulation campaign like in Stronghold 2 would be amazing again

I've loved (and still do) this game so much, I love the characters and I would love to see another Stronghold like Stronghold 2. But not with Matthew and William, just another story like SH2 was but in that SH2 Style. I've played it countless hours. Making my own stories about Matthew and William and all of their friends. I even published my first fantasy book, which was highly inspired by this story and characters. However, I am an amateur and not a professional :D I was particularly inspired by Matthew and how he learned to fight and believe in trust. You may have noticed, but I'm a big fan of Stronghold 2 :P Cyaa guys, keep doing what you can to best!
