The Lost and The Found I Rob Hirst & Jay O'Shea chat with Lisa Wilkinson I The Sunday Project

For 36 years, Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst told no one his secret. At the age of 17, he fathered a daughter who was promptly given up for adoption. Now they’re back together and making music. Rob & Jay’s incredible debut album, ‘The Lost and the Found’ was released in February 2020.

Having seen Jay's name on Rob's wiki page, and now having watched this. What a most wonderful eventuality them united after so long, and the melding of their talents is wonderful

⁠@@simonkierse3350 Midnight Oil have had open forthright opinions on society, government, politicians, policies, history, businessmen and so on - as part of free speech, critique , open debate… Hirst once said of Midnight Oil: “how sanctimonious we were at times; preachy”. Whilst it’s an intimate and sensitive issue - and he’s introduced it into the public domain (with Lisa Wilkinson - on Channel 9 - no less)… it’s going to be open to opinions. My interpretation of their story was that it is also a way/means for promoting their collaboration, their records, leveraging Rob Hirsts brands - to promote his first daughters livelihood. Do you think Rob Hirst would have pledged financial resources to Shea? And what do you think his wife and adult daughters would have made of that pledge? And finally - why are her adoptive parents (in a sense her real parents - the ones that raised and educated her, tended to her and nurtured her - the ones that did “the work” not shown nor interviewed? Rather - a 17 year old was unencumbered to get on with his life (he dumped the girlfriend btw) and he “buried” the secret for 36-years. We don’t see her parents, rather Hirst with tastled crop hair, foundation on his face, under studio lighting… a celebrity with a story. Valid critique?
