In a French TV exclusive, Richelle Harrison Plesse sat down with Australian rock legends Midnight Oil, who’ve returned to the spotlight after a 15-year hiatus. The band - famous for their fierce political statements - are once again storming stages around the globe on their "Great Circle" comeback tour. It features no less than 60 concert dates in 16 different countries, including two stopovers at the iconic Paris venue, the Olympia.

I am german, 51 years of age. Did see Midnight Oil performing live twice in my life back in the 1990s. Once in their hometown of Sydney, once at an Open Air in Ulm/Germany, 80 kilometres from my home. Both gigs have been in the Top 5 in my all-time favourite concert list.

The Great Circle tour had to be the most magical concert experience of my life. Between the two shows they did here in Toronto, they must have played every song I wanted to here; unlike most bands, they dig deep into their back catalog, and left out almost nothing. I heard songs I never dreamed I'd get to hear live. Cheers fer that guys - come back soon!

All these years later, he still gives me goosebumps. Still a handsome devil, and his quirky dancing onstage is oddly appealing to me.

his dancing was certainly odd, like his feet were stuck to the floor but it didnt stop him from dancing anyway

Oils fan since early 80s and always happy as a clam to see them make another round. They take a break now and then as do I, but that makes it all the more pleasurable to bring out the songs new and old again and again and have another round of Oli-fest with the speakers turned up loud.

I am 6i years old and saw this fantastic band twice in the mid 80s when most people in the US never heard of them. Saw them at the Paladium in Hollywood Calif

🖐️The Oils Resist-Tour in 2022 was awesome. I hope, this was not the final tour. The complete band was full of joy and energy, with a very fine setlist.

Guys, do you think that Peter sold out? I'm a Mexican Oil's fan, so I have not a great picture to this respect, but do someone from Australia can help me? Because after all the powerful messages in their music I couldn't buy the idea that Garrett betrayed his principles, but I don't know.

My view is, that Peter (after years of being in the policial arena) got the chance to join one of 2 of the larger parties and thought he'd have a chance of making a difference being in the fold than getting nowhere in a smaller party .. but sadly got caught out with all the Bull$hit, Backstabbing and lie's which ended very badly .. The Bands view on Nuclear Disarmament and the Environment have to be commended .. As to betraying his principles - To do that job, you have to sell your soul . .

Peter is serious about climate change? How much pollution is created by his band going on this huge tour - transporting them, the crew and equipment across the world on planes, trucks and buses?
@Oztralianmade

Isn't is a lesser evil to have the band move around in plane's, trains and automobiles .. than having the million of so people travel the planet heading to Sydney . .

Hahahaha, right.......On ya horse! Better not spread messages of love and peace any more via live music, better stopping shipping food as well. And everything else exported around the world to keep peace and civility. Yeah there's no infrastructure to support a cleaner way yet globally, So we will just stop people from enjoying most things they have in life. Get where you're coming from, but be real.........seriously.

Aboriginal elders is still waiting for an a apology from Peter Garrett over McArthur River Mine diversion, Peter Garrett should be ashamed of what he done to the people of Australia and what he did to the Australian Environment, Peter Garrett should Recognise this country has been damaged from his time as Federal Environment Minister. Fool now or liar then?

Garret is a failed politician who exhibited a high degree of incompetence, ask him about the house ceiling insulation disaster that cost the lives of several young men and over which he was the responsible minister.

Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Martin Rotsey are brilliant musicians. Peter is narcissistic rock star of moderate musical ability, incompetent at everything else. Driven by virtue signalling his entire life. Midnight Oil was a very worthwhile band in the 80's but today Garret is irrelevant, just another ignorant millionaire celebrity.

wow how I have loved you as a musician. as a politician, I can only disagree with you Peter, and your whole agenda with the man-made global warming I thought everyone was aware of was a great deception. you are, as I see it, being abused in a politically wrong direction that does not match your own previous texts. Your opinions about Trump, who has accomplished more as president over the last 3 years than the last 4 presidents combined, unfortunately also show that, in my opinion, you have lost the right track. just my opinion, and kindly meant. I look forward to what you are good at. the music. Kind regards
