Frog and Sam were played by Corey Haim and Corey Feldom who were affectionately referred to as "the two Coreys", in the 80s, they were in several films together, they were friends and worked well together, they even did a reality show called The Two Coreys when they were adults. The mom in this film Diane Wiest , often plays moms, she is also in a film called Parenthood, which is a very heartwarming and funny movie about family. It also co stars a very young Keanu Reeves and an even younger Joaquin Phoenix. For another 80s scary movie check out American Werewolf in London.

Classic. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but doesn't go overboard by being too campy. I actually got to spend a little time with the man who plays the Head Vampire, Mr. Edward Herrmann, and he was the absolute nicest man! He lived just down the beach from my sis and bro in law, and they knew him, so when we visited, we'd get to see him. Simply one of the nicest people I have ever met.

He always seemed to me like he would be a genuinely nice fellow, and I have yet to hear anything to the contrary. I think that’s why casting him as Max was a great call. The movie does things to throw suspicion at him, but he doesn’t give off anything malicious, so you kind of don’t want to suspect him.

I was 18. I felt like a weirdo for having a huge crush on Corey Haim. Then later, I found out, he and Corey Feldman were both being molested during the filming. The head vampire? Never arrested. I felt guilty for having a crush, while other men were doing all that to them. I would have protected him, and felt weird about the age difference. Meanwhile, he would be 53, if he was still alive. My sister had a crush on Sutherland. I thought she was nuts, with his weird, turned up nose, horse face, and buck teeth. Ah, well. Mom always said, "There's someone for everyone."

Glad that you guys enjoyed this movie, it is a classic. I recommend either An American Werewolf in London or The Howling, if you want to go with werewolf movies next. There is also Near Dark which is a Vampire Western that came out around the same time as The Lost Boys, but whereas The Lost Boys had a fun, campy undertone to it, Near Dark is pretty Dark and a bit more grounded in reality. They do not even use the word vampire in the movie so it is interesting to compare and contrast it with the Lost Boys.

The movie is set in an imaginary Northern Califonia coastal town something like Santa Cruz, Watsonville or Monterrey. There's a lot of specialized farming in the area ---- and one of the main crops is garlic. You could easily buy a huge bag of fresh garlic, especially if you crossed the hills to Gilroy, the place where they hold a famous garlic festival.

I was in 7th grade the summer this came out and honestly, for me, no other vampire movie has ever topped it. No surprise it can still connect with newer generations, it's just a great fun and exciting 80's movie with a perfect amount of 80's cheese sprinkled in. I'm not big on hardcore horror/gore so this kinda "family friendly" horror/drama/adventure was perfect for me as a teen and even still today. This movie was an intoxicating pop culture hit for teenagers in the late 80s, who loved the tagline 'Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire.' The whole idea of vampirism as a metaphor for being a moody, party hard teenager wasn't something that had really been explored before. Traditionally, vampires were portrayed as middle aged counts in capes, or adult women, in movies and TV, so to see these cool, leather wearing youths on motorbikes who teens wanted to be as cool as, was something new and fresh. I don't think we would've had Twilight without it, although maybe that's not something many people would be thankful for, lol.

It is a feast of eighties stars, not just Keifer Sutherland who was one of the Brat Pack of young actors dominating films aimed at the youth audience. You have Corey Feldman who was one of the Goonies and from Stand By Me (also with Sutherland), Corey Haim played Sam, he was a teen heart throb and worked a lot with his friend Feldman. Jason Patic and Jami Gertz as Michael and Starr were as you guessed in several films together. We even had Alex Winter soon to team up with a Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and the three older actors were stalwarts of film and TV at the time.

Great movie from the Great 80'S, Very Well Done. And Cam & Zay's reactions was so priceless to see, I am so happy they liked it. When I just became a teenager in the early 70's, there was a made-for-tv vampire movie from 1972 called "The Night Stalker" A modern-day vampire goes on a nighttime biting spree in Las Vegas. The authorities don't seem to have a clue how these victims are being found dead with bite marks and a great loss of blood. Except for an aging reporter, a man named Karl Kolchak who has it all figured out and how he goes about solving the case. The movie is very suspenseful and well-acted, I remember it had the highest rating program that evening. I think Cam and Zay should check it out and judge for themselves to like or dislike the movie.

This movie was incredibly influential on the vampire genre. I'd also recommend Return of the Living Dead. It did for zombie films what this one did for vampires.

I recommended Fright Night (1985) myself and this also fits the same 'style'. Mild gore horror with a lot of camp based on classic 'monsters'.

Yeah, a direct inspiration for Brujah clan vampires in the _Vampire: The Masquerade_ RPG, and the behaviors of much less lawful Sabbat vampires.

Yay so glad you loved it! This is also my favorite vampire film, one of my favorite films in general. The 80s were the best, it brings me back to a better time, this was my late brother's favorite too it just puts a smile on my face when i watch it pure nostalgia

Great movie. Great cast. A lot of the actors did a lot of stuff. Star, I know was in Seinfeld and Twister. You've got Mouth from Goonies and The Burbs. In fact, him and Sam were in License to Drive, together as well. It goes on and on.

Yes! The First movie with young and metal head vampires! 😅 I'm really happy you enjoyed it as much as I did when i was 14 back in the 80's. This movie was in heavy rotation on my tv.

Classic…. My oldest daughter is 20 and scary movies never bothered her and this was her first scary movie she watched….. she was pretty little when her grandma showed it to her while they were camping at a lot they owned at a lake… came home and told me and I’m like omg did it scare her!!??? Nope not at all… for her 11th birthday we went saw Annabelle and she was not impressed….. at 11… lol I was the same way. But my youngest doesn’t do scary, she won’t even dress up scary for Halloween… funny how siblings are different like that.

Great reaction to one of my all time favorites. The director Joel Schumacher I got to interview in college and he actually helped me get started in film production so it has special meaning for me. My favorite thing is that it's such a well made and stylish horror picture and the casting for all the roles was perfect.

As someone who was in Santa Cruz the summer they filmed this movie, believe me when I say that town didn't need no vampires to be any weirder.
