Is the canyon something anyone can prospect like, the Yuba River State Park (or at least portions of it are public)? No intention of breaking some kind of protocol/etiquette/unwritten rule(s) with asking is intended. I'm completely new to panning/prospecting.

Chuck this area is wild and scenic river so it cannot be claimed but you had pan still, look up auburn state rec area, wild and scenic river systems and blm/forest land but you have to watch out for claims on these lands.
