Larry, I went back up to the old cache up by Byous butte just to pay respects to Charlie and of course now Hank. Spent a couple hours there thinking about life, and listening to mysteries. Thank you so much for keeping it up. Still looking for the thousand eyes.

The work you guys do means so much to me. I love hearing about the Superstitions and Arizona history in general. My dad researched Tombstone, The Earp's and Doc Holiday extensively. He was a big Bob Boze Bell fan. Met him at a book signing for his Holiday book he did in the early 2000s or possibly late 90s. He had Karen Tanner Holiday's book as well. I love you guys. Wanna say hi to Larry and send my best wishes to Jack San Felice. I understand he lost his wife and took a bad fall? God bless him, I hope he gets better. You guys mean alot to me. Thank you. Also, I miss Hank and Charlie so much. I feel like I knew them ...

@@mysteriesofthesuperstition6793 The stories are delicious, *they are the Gold,* that we all can share and enjoy. (I never knew the movie that Vincent Price played in was actually based on a true story, "The Barron of Arizona") *I'm curious what you know about the Grand Canyon Cave story, that was found by Kinkade and reported in the Arizona Gazette. He found vast artifacts and mummies, referenced Egypt and Asia. He was Affiliated with the Smithsonian, and they deny the whole event. I'm like you, I don't feel 1 story is written to increase circulation. If you aren't familiar with the story, I believe the "Why File" Channel did a really good story on it, recommend the watch, most enjoyable. Best Thoughts and Wellbeing, Beth Tennessee, USA

I've enjoyed stories about the Dutchman mine since the 70's when my grandfather told me about it. He lived in Tempe for years and knew a lot of folks. Of course some people think it was found long ago and there is a large goldmining operation on the far side of the mountains but still it's fun to imagine.

Nice to hear Hanks voice at the end. I don't think anyone will ever figure out how the dutchman acquired that gold the truth is that is all they ever had to go on. If the story that Clay tells is true that the Dutchman killed to acquire the mine, and to keep it by killing his own nephew in his old age he must have felt a terrible guilt over what he had done. We all seen people over the years who were not so nice in their younger years but soften in their older age as they start to realize end of their life isn't too far away. If Waltz sealed up the mine because he didn't want to have to kill again if someone found it, why would he direct others he cared about to the mine. The mine has become a curse greed of the gold driven so many to die looking for it. Almost like the way Waltz killed to get the mine has cursed it forever.

All these guy were such characters. So many stories. Such a lawless time. I would imagine there is no lost dutchman mine. Common sense tells me it is more likely that he killed someone and stole their gold or found someone's stash ( maybe after they died?) . And the whole story was a cover, to keep people looking in the wrong place for something that didn't exist. Something like that would certainly explain the mystery.

I don't know if it's true, but I have read some of the gold was analyzed and found to be from the Lost Basin area and it's theorized he obtained it from Indians. I do believe the Lost Dutchman mine story is just that, only a story.

Interesting story, but nothing related to the mine. My father and I hiked in the superstition mountains in 1957. I was 12 at the time. We came in from the west side and went up the back side near Blacktop mountain and Weaver's Needle. Of course we had read all the stories about the mine. We met several old miners with their mules that were supported by "angels" with money and supplies looking for the mine. I remember one day I was at the base of the cliff that was the east side of the mountain. It is the prominent "prow" you can see from Phoenix. I could see the entire valley all the way from Mesa junction to Phoenix. Like I said, interesting history of a small part of my life. Best time I ever spent with my dad.

My dad and one of his co-workers, a supervisor went out looking in the Superstition mountains looking for the Lost Dutchman treasure in the 1960's. They came across what appeared to be a cave or mine in the side of a hill with human activity. Something spooked them and they felt they were being watched and that was the both of them, then they left the area. That's all I remember. Sadly I don't have a map or directions to that area. I'm 66, retired, and one of my dreams is to camp out in the mountains for a few days. If just to say I did so. I need to do this before I'm to old to do much of anything.

@@Knife_Collector sure thing. You live in AZ? I have lived in San Tan Valley behind the regional park my entire life so I’m familiar with desert environment. I do have to say I didn’t know how rough the superstition environment was. It’s truly like a jungle out there with how dense and vegetative it is out there.. nearly impossible to trek through off of track.

Is there any scientific consensus that Jacob Walz did find a gold mine? I mean, have the ore samples been examined to see if the geology of the area can yield such specimens? It seems analysis of the minerals present in the samples might direct searchers to the "mine", if such even exists.

Anna The matchbox that came from under Jacob Waltz bed was subjected to a none destructive test at the school of mines in Nevada in comparison to a dozen gold specimens from gold mines in the Superstition area. The test proved only one thing. The gold the matchbox was made from was from an unknown source. This did not tell where it came from only where it didn’t come from and did not rule out anywhere.

@@larryhedrick254 Thank you! The story as generally told is that Waltz would travel into the mountains and return with ore which he would use for living expenses until the next trip. When he died it was said there was a box with very rich ore under his bed. I had not heard of the matchbox until this video and since Waltz was a geologist I wonder if that was something he had acquired in his travels? There are a number of lost gold mine stories here in the west, always describing quartz ledges with heavy veins of gold. I don't know of any ever being found despite people being everywhere and housing developments popping up across the land, even in the mountains. It seems like at least one of these 'mines' would have been found by now.

@@annalisette5897 Waltz had a degree in business administration from the university of Heilbronn which was a agricultural school. Today the university offers geology but not in the 1800s. There is no proof Waltz was trained in geology. That is just one of many speculations about Waltz.

@@larryhedrick254does that mean there can't be the mine if he wasn't trained in geology?

@@kathylarson8876 Absolutely not. Waltz was credited with saying “no Miner will find my mine.” This implies that the mine is located where no trained miner would geologically expect to find gold. Many amateurs have founded gold mines.

A very important detail, a notary only identifies the person making the statement. The notary makes no comment or verification of the statement.

Paul A notary's official misconduct carries civil and criminal liability, which includes disciplinary action by the state's commissioning authority. Richard Holmes, who was with Waltz when he died and ended up with the gold under his bed. Holmes did not search for Waltz’s mine. Until he went to the board house, that Waltz told about and verified that a woman and three children had lived in the board house, one cannot conclude it was anywhere else but some where in the Superstitions. This is more proof than any of over a hundred people who claim they found it have provided and one cannot disprove a legend by not finding it. Until they do I believe it’s not where the mine I debunked in the story you responded to.
