An unlikely crossover, but a welcomed one by me. I can see the basic premise: After the events of 1962’s King Kong Vs Godzilla, the big G washes up somewhere in the British sea after being knocked out cold by the eighth wonder of the world. He wakes up and tries to find something to eat (you know how it is with the morning munchies). And what better snack is there than a young dinosaurian creature he finds swimming in the sea. He attempts to launch a surprise attack like a shark hunting a seal, but then something else appears. The mother, Gorgo. She roars at Godzilla who accepts her challenge, resulting in a battle between two reptilian giants from Japan and Britain.

'Gorgo' is a gorgeous film, at least the equal of any Japanese giant monster films of the time. It looks far more expensive than it actually was; the production value is outstanding. A group of Toho staffers made a Godzilla fan film out of stock footage and some costume/screen testing clips of a kaiju werewolf. The project got as far as the creation of a complete Werewolf suit. Anyway, 'Godzilla vs Gorgo' will never happen, either as a late release or a new film. Toho would never let it happen.

A year or so ago Carpenter was a host of a program or I believe he talked about his time as a fan of the franchise plus I think a showing of a couple Godzilla movies. I do recall that back then me and some others thought that he broke down and was going to show any footage from this supposed 'Gorgo vs Godzilla' film but it wasn't the case. I always envisioned a setting where both Gorgo and Godzilla are neighbors on Monster Island, and since both are single parents, they become friends and Gorgo babysits Minilla when Godzilla is off saving the planet.
