Thanks for this! I grew up fairly close by and was always looking for signs of the old station. Sadly very few - everything at track level had gone by the late 70s, probably earlier. Often wondered why, when Millhouses was left in place a lot longer.

Thanks for posting another very interesting presentation. It's rather sad to think of all the disused stations around our wonderful city that could be re-opened for better access to various areas. Btw, not sure if anyone has heard of this before. But, quite a few of older Sheffield people used to nickname Heely Station as " Heeley Duffem " as it was easy to escape the ticket collectors when using certain exits.

Hi Paul. The building shown from 4m 41sec was the ticket office and then the subway to the Island platforms, used it to go to the Hope Valley, as stated the archway near the bus stop was a Gents urinal. That location was my local Tram & Bus Stop. Nice to see the Drone shots.
@WobblyRunner11 ай бұрын
Nice one Barry. Have those "windows" on the side of the ticket office always been bricked up?
@johnflower86482 ай бұрын
You missed an interesting part of Heeley station which was a tunnel linking the London lines to platform 1 at Midland station so that the toffs could get on and off the train to without climbing stairs.

Great Vlog Paul Always wondered what that scruffy pink building was on left going Into Sheffield City Centre on the A61 down from Meadowhead & Woodseats.Such a shame a lovely example of Victorian architecture as come to that😪
@WobblyRunner10 ай бұрын
Thanks. I wonder what the condition is like inside the building. Given it's in the "antiques quarter" as all the signs say, it's a shame such a historic building isnt better utilised.

Another interesting video Paul. Very short sighted decision to get rid of the second pair of running lines. I wonder if those redundant decks are left to protect the working ones from bridge bashes
@WobblyRunner11 ай бұрын
I never even considered that. Surely they should be looking to put those other two lines back? All I keep hearing is capacity issues into Sheffield.
@maestromanification11 ай бұрын
@@WobblyRunner they could really do with another pair of lines back but it's all been messed about with now. There used to be a dive under just outside Sheffield. I think you see it on that excellent film engines must not enter the potato siding

You mentioned the carriage sidings. These during the week, before the era of the motorway, where always full of carriages. Sat was football specials possibly cricket in summer, Sunday trips usually to the seaside.so the carriage sidings emptied. There was one accident when a set of carriages ran out of their siding through the point up on to the main line, lost momentum and reversed and rolled down into Sheffield Midland station. I think they came from the siding across from the Abbydale forge pond north of Totley station.
