One thing I don’t understand is how popular the game was but the merchandise has just gone somewhat nonexistent / lost to time. I wonder how much SMB merchandise is still out there that hasn’t been discovered. Great vid showed me a lot I didn’t know about the series.

i posted this video on the monkey ball subreddit so fans could see it, and in doing so i found yet another lost merchandise item! someone left a comment about this prototype banana accessory for the gamecube joystick. it was from back when the first was going to be released but they haven't found evidence of its existence online. i'm currently looking into it

On the subject of lost media and Monkey Ball, I remember the TV commercial for Super Monkey Ball Adventure! It's nowhere online though to my knowledge and I literally cannot find it anywhere. It had people in a swimming race, the countdown went off and then they reveal there was a man who was actually inside a giant clear ball running across the water trying to beat the others. I saw it a really long time ago and I believe it was an ad for Monkey Ball Adventure, not sure if it was a different game. But it made my mom laugh hard.

this is the 2nd story i've received since this video about lost monkey ball media/merch! the other was on reddit, they got like a promotional gamecube accessory of a banana that you'd stick onto the analog stick. i was trying to find existence of it, i'm gonna have to do the same for yours. thanks for commenting this!

I watched this video a couple months ago, so I don't remember what all ended up being found... but earlier this month, SMB iOS was rediscovered and re-released with a brand-new emulator made specifically for the game! It's awesome that the game ended up not only preserved, but with a tailor-made emulator.

I wasn't really around when this game was in its prime, plus I didn't start playing games till I was around 10 years old anyway. That being said, it was very interesting to see a retrospective on a game that I've heard of but never seen much about. It's crazy how much conspiracy theory(?) can surround a simple video game. Thanks for the video, another good one as always!

“Banana Splitz was a flop” in terms of SALES, yes, due to it being exclusive to the PS Vita, but honestly I’d say it’s right up there with the most highly regarded SMB games
@sombertoboggly2 жыл бұрын
yeah, by flop i meant either not that great of a game, or poor sales. cause i personally didn't like adventure or blitz when i played them when i was younger, but have never even played splitz myself. since you're right, never had a ps vita and it just wasn't a commercially successful game. it would've been cool if it hadn't been a ps vita exclusive! i'm going to eventually make some other monkey ball videos covering more stuff like that, i honestly glossed over and skimmed through the history of those games to get onto the lost media part
@Jac-Man2 жыл бұрын

Sega is run by dumbasses super monkey Ball 2 was my favorite game and I waited for a super monkey Ball 3 but we never got it Sonic had the same issue we never got Sonic adventure 3 really had this problem with many of their ip s if they kept up the quality and built brand recognition instead of quantity and trash I'd still be popular today Falling into obscurity almost happened to Sonic as well but luckily it's brand recognition in the previous decade allowed the current-generation to flounder without causing as much damage to the brand
