Great to see the pics of the Southwell Platforms, at Rolleston, in the undergrowth. Confirmed our suspicions.

Yeah. Shame we couldn't make it in. Bit more time and could probably have persevered

Another interesting video Paul. I regularly cycle from Clipstone (Vicar Water) through Sherwood Pines on the old GCR railway line to Bilsthrorpe. Then short section on road over to the old North Notts (LMS & LNE Joint) now Southwell trail to Farnsfield in this video. I continue through Kirklington to Southwell and onwards via the racehorse road to Rolleston then Fiskerton level crossing to the River Trent. In 1963, as a child, lived in Bilsthorpe on Eakring Rd. Daily BR steam train collecting coal wagons from sidings in pit yard. One day each year my Dad would take me to the pit and I'd spend the day on the steam shunter. I remember 1963 / 64 Bilsthorpe Colliery annual outing and an excursion train from Bilsthorpe, platform built out of sleepers located where the new houses are next the the roundabout, train routed via Farnsfield, Rolleston, Newark to East Coast.

Good work on that video boys. It’s a lovely walk from Farnsfield to Southwell. I didn’t get as far as Rolleston so good to see that and the lost triangular platform!

I recall cycling to Southwell along that trail years back, if memory serves that pub has a lump of track and sleepers in the beer garden. Decent pint, too. 👍

I really want to go back and have a pint in that pub. Might wait until the spring for a nice warm day

Nice little mini series Paul. Interesting that they added added the curve at Southwell and the connection to Ollerton so late. There was a plan around the same time to build a line from Retford to Bestwood Park but only a short section near Ollerton was built . This can still be seen where it used to cross the LD east of Ollerton colliery

Ah yes I was reading about the North Notts line. It probably came the drawing board 10 years too late?

That was far better in terms of what you could find, I can't believe that I missed that piece of platform under the road bridge at Kirklington and Edingley Station, I must have had my blinkers on as I walked right past it. There is, apparently, a signal still standing on the racecourse road, it's about half a mile from one end, but I'm not sure which one, I didn't have time to look when I was there. I must go back in the dead of winter as I wouldn't mind finding the old platforms.
@WobblyRunner Жыл бұрын
Ah yes the old signal. I've heard about that it's quite a long stretch that road isn't it.
@seamusmcevoy2011 Жыл бұрын
@@WobblyRunner I think it's about two miles, but it does appear to be a public footpath, so may well pop down there in the winter.
