This is the lost media of Australia iceberg. I've tried to sort things by what I think are the most well-known that you've likely heard of in some way, down to the least known with barely any information about them. The first and bottom layers I think are pretty solid, with items in the middle tiers a bit more fluid. I found so many things with little discussion about them, and it was challenging to place them. In any case, I hope you enjoy it and find out about a few pieces of media that you weren't aware of before. Maybe you're sitting on something that's lost!
The iceberg chart itself for your reference: icebergcharts.com/i/Lost_Medi...
A big thank you also to everyone who has commented and DMed me with suggestions of lost media that I wasn't aware of before, and the amazing contributors of the lost media wiki.

@@StrangeAustralian well not only that, but it’s because of Agro’s Cartoon Connection that I have a bit of personal lost media of my own, as I attended a taping of it around 1994 or 1995, & was shown in the audience just before a commercial break. @@StrangeAustralian btw I just remembered another show I used to watch from around 2002. I’m not sure if many here remember it, but I wonder if those that do, remember a show on Channel 7 called Generation 7? I remember it because of the juice of the same name that the show was named after & was constantly promoted on the show too. I don’t think I’ve come across any recordings of Generation 7 (or just G7 for that matter) anywhere. Do you remember that show?

Wake in Fright is one of my all time favorite Aussie Films. A friend of mine who watched the movie mentioned how accurate the depiction of being drunk is in the film. I take their observation as credit knowing their past history with alcoholism. I greatly enjoy the films desolate atmosphere and its accompanied soundtrack.

top job on this mate, there's so much lost media in Australia you could make this a 3 or 4 part series. A piece of lost Aussie media is the channel 10 show Stooged, it ran for 3 episodes before getting axed out of disgrace in 2005. It was said to be a complete rip of Ashton Kutcher's Punk'd and was hosted by Millsy. The only evidence of its existence is a chat board from 2005 shitting on the show, and brief mentions in Milsy & Channel 10's Wikipedia pages.

@@StrangeAustralian No worries. I think it aired one or two episodes, then discontinued. A little like Arcade back in the early years of Australian Television. Another worth mentioning is the 1976 TV series of Andra from the ABC. Only around 2 minutes of footage survives. It was both the fault of the ABC and China. ABC sent the master copies of Andra over to China to air over there. Once it was returned. It was found to have been erased with Chinese Game Shows. One last to mention is the 1959 series, Emergency. I don't know what became of that one. Can't find very much on it at all. So long ago I guess.

Fantastic video mate. I have watched a number of lost media videos, but hardly any mentioned Australian content. Its sad but it doesn't really surprise me how many children's TV shows have been lost, likely because TV networks see no use for them as soon as they are aired just that one time. So many lost media including my favourite TV show, Doctor Who are like this, because many thought it would be watched once and never be watched again. I am in my early 40s, so I recognize a number of TV shows, even though many I didn't watched them. It would be interesting to see if some of the kids shows/game shows I watched as a kid in the 1990s still exist, like Now You See It, A*mazing, The Bugs Bunny Show, Saturday Disney just to name a few. I would guess, not many, as there would be no point in showing it multiple times, especially kids game shows. What most shocked me was how recent some of the entries were, but with everything now digital, I am certain we will see more in the future (i.e Streaming services purging TV Shows). Thanks again for a great video.
@StrangeAustralian
@StrangeAustralian Ай бұрын
Thank you! And you're absolutely spot on about Kids TV in Australia - so many just get a brief run and that's it. There's a lot of things that we're unlikely to ever see again officially or unofficially. I wouldn't be surprised if something like A*mazing, Saturday Disney and all still exist at their networks, but we'll likely never see them again unless there's some kind of leak. It shows the importance of saving the things you like and enjoy, and one of the main advantages of physical media too.

Well informed and interesting video. A few of these I can confirm I will post in future, Kitu and Woofl being one of them. Not all of the episodes, but I have a few. Lizzie's Library I have a few more I haven't posted yet but will get around to. As for the two Bananas episodes, we've come very close to finding those and I know we will soon (i am going through countless recordings which will eventually lead us to those episodes) - also, originally it was three episodes not available anywhere in English. "Shoe Shine" was in this position as well but I found it on one of the tapes of shows my mum recorded for me on ABC circa 2006. It is surreal knowing also that many on this list would be completely lost if it weren't for me, as well as some that aren't on here because I have found them in full (Boffins, Pig's Breakfast, Johnson & Friends, Swinging etc) -- I have also found a good amount of Magic Mountain, Lizzie's Library and others. All I can say is if you have a genuine interest in this specific genre and era of Kids TV, please stay tuned, I'm like a magnet for this stuff and it always somehow finds its way to me. Lol. I also have the "Big Fella Street TV Unit Archive" channel which is mostly TV recordings whereas this one is for episodic uploads.

The mention of Skippy is sending me down a confusing nostalgia trip. Cause I remember back in like grade 1, or maybe 2nd or 3rd grade (those were the earliest grades that I can remember us watching educational shows on those old box tv's, this was around the late 2000's early 2010's I think) and we were learning about Australia, and every class we would watch an episode of this show about this young boy and his kangaroo. I went and looked it up and its apparently the live action version of Skippy that ran from 1968 to 1970. But looking at it now, I'm not sure if I'm remembering things wrong or it was a different show. Cause first of all, I don't recall the intro having a title card, I recall the quality being much brighter and not so washed out, and idk why but one snippet has stuck in my mind ever since, just a close up shot of the little boy crying. I have no idea why THAT moment was so significant to me but it was. I'm Canadian btw. Although I did have a bunch of undiagnosed mental issues up till 4th grade, so my ADHD, Autistic, anxiety filled brain probably remembered it this way for some reason.

Information on the Skippy cartoon is very limited about what happened while it aired online. It could be it be that the show was not popular compared to other Yoram Gross Shows or Channel Nine having fewer viewers at the time, tho the series does end with no cliffhanger. While Blinky Bill, Flipper, and Tabaluga had 3 seasons, all ending around the same year of 2004. I really hope Flying Bark releases all the episodes on DVD/Blu Ray in the future. Aside from one Bananas in Pyjamas EP that is blocked by the ABC on YT, those 2 i can't find at all. The New Adventures of Blinky Bill, only a few EPs are on YT and the less i say anything regarding Robert Hughes, the better. A thing you forgot to mention on Skippy: Adventures in Bush town is that Skippy is male, while the prior 2 series of Skippy in the 60s & early 90s was a female. Magic Mountain S2 is a oddball for me like only some i can find and all of S1 is on still there on YT. I remember Lizzie's Library back in the day, stop motion animation i really appreciated over the years because yeah it is a lot of work to do. As for Catch Kandy, Mrsimplesimon1987 uploaded 2 more EPs recently, Wormwood, Wild Kat and vaguely know Kitu & Woofi way back. The Interpretaris, Vega 4 & Phoenix is a trilogy of series i mentioned also in the Weird Australian Kids TV iceberg vid & Swinging, shame about EP 3 of that series. Rollercoaster on the ABC will be missed, it was pretty cool to see as a kid until it stopped. Surprised you didn't mention Trapped & Castaway since Marsii has all the EPs on Internet Archive & later and also appealed on the Aussie Archivist Backup YT channel and honestly it needs some love. Heck High Flyers Series 2 is still a mystery on anyone who has the EPs, all of Series 1 is on YT & even Prime Video. @@emilyisoffline Thanks! I know that Steam Punks was available on ABC iView at some point, but it seems to have disappeared. You might like to try and contact the host Paul Verhoeven, as he seems semi active on social media. He might not be able to send any clips, but he can probably give you some good info on the show if he's willing to chat.

The Australian version is at least! I hope it shows up again in some form - it sounds like those who watched it got a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Partially lost - there are two episodes that were screened but haven't been seen or made available since, whether through official or unofficial channels.

I feel like the episode lost socks is maybe the one of 5 episodes I ever watched as a kid. I remember the title.

so many throwbacks, as a kid in the 90s Sydney, I used to watch aloooot of morning cartoons and abc kids, I mean alot.. I'm not even going to list them there to many mostly from 1990-2004 (I stopped watching as much TV after year 10), but I guarantee I've seen most of these missing episodes. even the more older shows not aimed towards kids. hmm it's a shame alot of media gets lost, really is upsetting. I like to archive alot of things well not tv shows more hobbies I'm in to as a adult. like Sydney graffiti history and graff mags from Australia, also aussie hip hop I like to archive and document. if I could archive everything from cartoons and obscure aussie TV shows I would but I'm only one person. you have to choose what is most important to collect/document/archive there is to much to do it all (to many interests) much respect to anyone documenting and archiving and cataloguing, no matter the subject. someone out there is appreciates it. only got halfway in to the video, it's 4 am ill save the rest for later but I'm sure there's going to be alot more shows and cartoon I seen in the 90s can't wait.

Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy the rest of it if you get a chance to see it! You're absolutely right - there's so many things that just don't exist or aren't readily available. A lot of it is children's shows as well, which seems to be a real shame. We just don't make a lot of them available for people to see after they're first shown. It really makes me feel for the teams who make these things, only for them to be forgotten or never released by their production company in any form.

Probably not really lost media, but the second season of the new Zealand show mirror mirror 🪞 is nowhere to be found on the internet, besides an awful Russian dub. I'd love to watch it again as I always loved the first season but the studio behind it is a bit stingy. The fact that both seasons of spellbinders still exists on KZbin is nothing short of a miracle.

I feel like I saw Mirror Mirror somewhere, but maybe I'm thinking of the Russian dub as well! I'm quite surprised that we can still see Spellbinder too - so many of those children's shows from commercial TV just disappear, which makes it a big outlier. Very glad we can watch it easily today, though others should be viewable as well, but that's production companies for you!

I wish more people knew about spellbinders as it was way ahead of it's time being about paralel universes and all. Definitely one of my favorite kids shows even to this day. As long as it stays online I may show it to my own kids some day.
